    5 of 5 Bargain Saturday, May 09, 2009
    A Customer from Keene, NH

The 3100 has 95% of the functionality of units at 5x this price. The chipset is the best obtainable. Updated and larger poi files are easily available on the Net just go looking (that will require you to add a memory card, which costs little). These refurbs look perfect and HAVE been updated to the latest firmware (which adds many features and corrects the few bugs the unit had), but not the latest maps. Comes complete with all the mounts and cables of a new unit, you won't be able to tell it's a refurb. Routing is as good as any other unit. My biggest gripe: If you live in Eastern US, in the FIRST poi listing: Coffee, they must have got paid to NOT include the largest chain in the US (Dunkin), in fact their locations ARE in there, you just hafta search on their name, they do NOT get listed under coffee shops...methinks Starbucks paid them a s*itload to exclude them....

4 of 5 Nice, Cheap, gets you where you want (usually)! Tuesday, September 30, 2008
A Customer from Los Angeles, CA
the only reason attracted me to this device that it was cheap (*80$ after rebate, that I never received, BE AWARE!) problems are slow to calculate or reroute, doesn't give you enough notice before turns or exits.

5 of 5 the best buy Tuesday, September 23, 2008
    A Customer from New Jersey
The best buy, worth of any penny you spend. Such as precise GPS, AAA information, street name speaking (I did not try bluetooth). It's brand new, no used evidence ( I guess that manufacture doesn't want to break his own market price. So claimed that this old model is refurbished). You cannot find some address in point of interest. And you need key in full address (not like regular find address). But it's is no problem to help you finding any place.

    5 of 5 Better than I expected Friday, September 19, 2008
    Jim from San Jose, CA
I have used it for a 600 mile trip and locally in the San Jose area for about two weeks. It kept me on track and rerouted quickly when I paused for a shopping spree and stopped for lunch. My wife wants one in her car. No complaints except my fingers are too big to tap the keyboard correctly so I use the end of a small brush - then all works perfectly. Volume is very good in my Lexus but my van is noisey and I miss some information. The information is very accurate, display is bright and readable, size is trim and just right. I like it!!!

    2 of 5 Disappointed Friday, September 19, 2008
    Michael Kahny from Delphos, OH
This is my first and only GPS. It is clueless on most routes. It actually told me to turn right drive 3 miles, turn around and drive right back the same road past where I turned right. It knows roads but will not pick them even when they are clearly the best route to take. I live in a fairly rural part of Ohio and it is not much help for me here. In larger cities it seems to do better.

4 of 5 Works great except that it is missing new freeway Monday, September 15, 2008
    Doug from Mesa, AZ
Product works great. I plugged it in and it worked right out of the box. Provides accurate instructions about 95% of the time. Biggest problem is that it does not recognize a portion of 202 freeway that was completed in July. (It seemed to think I was going off-road.) In case Magellen asks, it would be nice to be able to update it a little easier. Overall, though, a very nice product at a good price.

2 of 5 Poor interface, obsolete maps Monday, September 15, 2008
    Dr. H from Gainesville, VA
I am an experienced GPS and online maps user. I found the user interface harder to use than my old TomTom 300. I am annoyed that a legal disclaimer comes up every time it is turned on and has to be dismissed before proceeding. Recalling recent trips or favorites is awkward. Worst of all, the maps are several years out of date! My own street address for a house is over two years old is not in the thing! Other local roads changed or built 2 to 3 years ago are not in it. I can go to Google maps or use Verizon's GPS cell phone navigation and see correct maps.

4 of 5 Great Value but lacks a good POI database Saturday, September 13, 2008
    A Customer from Springfield, VA
The GPS has performed wonderfully where I live in the D.C. area; however, the point of interest (POI) database is so small that places like Lowes and HomeDepot aren't contained in it. In fact, every time we're out using the GPS and want to find a store it's never in the POI database. We have to plan ahead by finding the address and typing it in the GPS.

    5 of 5 Works like a charm..... Saturday, September 13, 2008
A Customer from Toms River, N.J.
I was very surprised by the quality, performance and price of this GPS. Worked great right out of the box, and Magellan just came out with their updated maps, POIs, and firmware. Upgraded with no problems what so ever. Would highly recommend this item!!!

    4 of 5 Magellan® Maestro™ 3100 excellent value Wednesday, September 10, 2008
    gary from vestal, ny
Great value for this GPS. Pro's- low cost, easy to set up, east to set addresses, quick satelite access time (usually less than 1 minute), very readible in sunlight on dash. Con's- Display doesn't show (text) of the upcoming streets. Street names are sometimes out of view on map.

4 of 5 Get the POI Hack! Tuesday, September 09, 2008
    Muhammad from Miami Gardens, Fl
I am pleased with my little unit. It works right out of the box. I bought a refurb unit and am confident that I won't have any problems with it. The volume could be louder, but decent. It may tend to take you a little out of the way in interchange spagetti. You will need the POI hack though to really get tons of use out of it. The hack is simple enough to implement with a SD card. I knew that I needed it when I tried to find CostCo and it had no idea of what I was talking about. It comes with 750K POI the Hack contains 6 million. If you don't get one of these for anything else get it for finding the closest X to your location. Gas is expensive. My wife has a Streetpilot but I got this on sale for $90. The Streetpilot is probably better. in terms of use and capabilities, but this unit is fine and easily hacked. For what you pay for it does it well.

5 of 5 Great value for the price! Tuesday, September 09, 2008
    A Customer from Madison, WI
This is my first GPS and it seems to work well right out of the box. Some of the menu sequences seem a little unusual, but once you get used to them it functions great. I like the Magellan better than my friend's TomTom, and it was cheaper.

    5 of 5 Great Value Monday, September 08, 2008
    A Customer from Islip, NY
This is a good stable, easy to use unit right out of the box. It doesn't always take you the shortest or fastest route but it always gets you there. Since the speaker is on the back, the volume is low when windows are open or radio is on. Also I don't think the maps are able to be updated.

5 of 5 gets you there Saturday, September 06, 2008
    A Customer from woodstock, ga
Very basic unit. Not a lot of features but for the price, its a great deal. Too many people complain that after not finding one address, units are junk. Hey, its a lot better than pulling out a paper map or trying to follow directions from a peice of paper!

5 of 5 Great Inexpensive GPS Wednesday, September 03, 2008
    A Customer from Hawthorne, NJ
The unit came as advertised and works well, and includes the car mount and 12V adapter for the car as well as USB cable for connecting to the computer. There aren't many bells and whistles, but it does what it is meant to do: help you find your way while driving. Re-routing is fast and the menu simple. Excellent value especially for the price. If you want a decent GPS unit for a low price, this is a good option.

    5 of 5 GREAT GPS Tuesday, September 02, 2008
    Dino from Rio Rancho, NM
While I was first concerned about the screen size, it is perfectly clear and easy to read. Of course, while not recommended (wink, wink) it is very easy to operate while driving. It has not gotten me lost yet and so I have no complaints!!

    5 of 5 I recommend Magllen 3100 GPS Tuesday, September 02, 2008
Kingston Peng from North Brunswick, NJ
I have purchased this re-fab GPS for about two weeks. It is very easy to use, and works as I expected. The only short coming compare with my Garmin 350 is this model can't save favorite address that I entered, so I have to enter it every time when I need to go to a place. That's why I rated performance as 4. Another minor item is: the unit was not charged when it shipped to me. It has come with a car charge so I have to plug it on the car to charge it before I can play around with it. Garmin model was fully charged when I received it, so I can play around, get more familiar with it before I use it on the car. However, I spent $350 on my Garmin model but only $100 on this, minus 20 rebate, so this is definetely a good buy, as long as it don't break on me after 3 months warrantee.

5 of 5 Great product, but you get what you pay for! Tuesday, September 02, 2008
    Jason from Washington, DC
I bought this as a going-away present for a friend who is moving to Chicago. I tested as I drove to her place and was very pleased with the results. No, it doesn't read the street names out to you. No, it doesn't have multiple options for voices. Yes, the streets are from 2006. Yes, you have to pay to have it updated (but honestly, really, do you?). Could you get a better GPS? Absolutely. Could you get a better one for $100? Doubtful.

4 of 5 great for price!! Monday, September 01, 2008
    A Customer from Philadelphia, PA
Great for the price! doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but for a basic gps, works well. compared to a tomtom, this blows it away. superfast recalculating route and decent routing. My map was a little off for South Dakota, but that's South Dakota. GPS's are always good for point to point, and not so good for meandering... only thing i wish it would have is a wall plug as it only comes with car plug...

4 of 5 Nice Unit But... Monday, September 01, 2008
    Keltic from Reston, VA
Excellent price for this unit. However there are two issues: 1) Map is outdated and will require spending some $$ to get Magellan's update. 2) While there is a car plug-in charger, there is no AC power adaptor. Other than that, the unit functions just fine.

5 of 5 The easiest user interface Sunday, August 31, 2008
    kgillis1954 from Chicago, IL
This unit was purchased to replace a Magellan 1200 that was stolen from my car. Out of all that I have used this one had the best menu and was by far the easiest to use. Its accuracy is very high and the screen is easy to see and understand. By far the biggest bang for the buck.

    5 of 5 A DEAL! Sunday, August 31, 2008
G2 from South of Boston - Massachusetts
Looked new and packaged like new. Easily programmed to update maps and the mounting bracket provided is very versatile. Nice split screen feature option which allows you to see the map and pending turn as it approaches. Did find that some locations don't show up on area searches, but knowing the address took care of that problem. This is a second unit (I have a Garmin) and was it given to my son who uses it frequently. Great price with windshield mount, car charger, and USB cable for loading the updated software/maps. Only negative comment is that it doesn't come with a home charger; that's optional and at an added cost. So, charge it in the car. Great features for the price paid!

4 of 5 Good Value at Reasonable Price Sunday, August 31, 2008
    A Customer from Fairfax, VA
This is a very good product at a reasonable price. The touch-screen user interface is intuitive and easy, the navigation instructions (both spoken and graphical) are clear, and the unit's hardware and windshield mount are strong and well-built. Shortcomings include a display that may be difficult to see in strong sunlight, inaccurate mapping information in certain areas, and a slow processor that results in jerky display updates, especially at high speeds or during sharp turns.

1 of 5 Can not find correct route. Monday, August 18, 2008
Sam in Upland, CA (near the 210) from Upland, CA
Tried an address in Beumont, California. It can't find it. Tried my home from my workplace, it doesn't recognize that the 210 freeway is there, gives me roundabout directions. Went to update from Magellan website (~900Mbyte download!), still doesn't find the correct route. Sorry, I must return it.

    4 of 5 A few issues... Wednesday, August 13, 2008
    samiam from Erie, PA
Works well right out of the box, programs easily. However, like other reviewers, I found the volume to be lacking a bit of oomph. Difficult to hear with any stray noise. And when using it the first day driving from an appointment to my home on what should be very familiar program territory, it consistently told me to turn in a direction that would have lengthened my trip home. On other local trips however, including very newly completed interstate connectors, it was very accurate, so there is some lack of consistency. It did however when it was all said and done, get me at least close (within a block) to my intended destination.

    4 of 5 A Good Buy Friday, August 01, 2008
    A Customer from Eclectic, AL
I bought the GPS for my wife, but I have been playing with it for a couple of days. The unit arrived quickly and well packaged with all the documentation. It seems to work pretty well--my major beef is that the map is not up to date. Roads in my neighborhood which were discontinued and landscaped over years ago are still shown, and the unit attempts to steer me onto them. The volume of the speaker is pretty good, but you have to turn it up all the way since it is mounted in back. For the price I think it is a good deal. I just wish I could get some marine maps for it that didn't cost $100+.

    5 of 5 Great product Wednesday, July 30, 2008
    A Customer from Olathe, Kansas
We purchased the Magellan Maestro 3100 just prior to a family vacation. From an unfamiliar airport, we were able to easily drive to our first destination with audible directions. The next day, we were able to drive 150 miles to our next destination - same great assistance - the third leg was another 150 mile drive and return to the South Carolina coast. Much less stress driving in new territory. This is my first GPS, so we were newbies, but between myself and my son, the 'learning' curve was very quick and easily traversed. The menus were laid out logically and do not have a great deal of depth. When we purchased this product we knew that we couldn't speak an address and have it accepted by the GPS. Addresses need to be typed in via the touchscreen keyboard. Still very easy. 5 out of 5 for this product!!

I bought this for my husband who is technology idiot. He is still learning how to use it. I think it is very simple and user friendly. But then, if it comes with a manuel, that will make my husband learning easier. I am satisfied with this GPS. Price right for a beginner!

5 of 5 Easy to use out of the box Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Bought at $99 and was great value, easy to use and much better than the Magellan I bought three years ago, which now isn't compatible with my new computer. This one doesn't need any computer connection.

I love it! the ease of use, voice prompts and all those places of interest already mapped out. This is possibly the only thing you need for the road out there.

very good device for the price. If you try to update the software be very carefull, make sure your patient with it and allow it to complete update, if you try to restart update it will erase device and be time consuming to fix, but I do know how to fix it...

4 of 5 preferred over TomTom One Sunday, July 27, 2008
    A Customer from Woodhaven, MI
I have this unit and the TomTom one. Both good basic units. Small screens and few extras. Magellan is easier to use. TomTom has some annoying problems. Refers to freeway as a "motorway" Seems to have been programmed in England. Screen is crowded, too much info. Had trouble loading the updates. The unit's memory blanked out. Had to return it for exchange. Havent tried optional Bluetooth or subscription service. Magellan also had a software problem. Tended to reboot randomly. Fixed itself eventually. Has trouble in urban areas. Constantly recalculates routes. Otherwise very good for the price.

    5 of 5 Great Value Monday, May 12, 2008
    A Customer from Chicago, IL
I received the Magellan just before I went on the road for a business trip and it functioned wonderfully. It even got me to locations with only partial addresses. I do find that it takes a little experience to understand some of the driving instructions but once you are used to it it's quite simple. Great price for a great product.
