5 of 5 excellent value Thursday, September 18, 2008
A Customer from Woodbridge VA

This is my third FM transmitter and by far it's the best. The signal is strong and clear. For those of you complained about not be able to play random, YES YOU CAN by holding the play button it switches back and forth between regular mode and random mode.

5 of 5 Works pretty well with SD card Tuesday, August 19, 2008
Steve from St. Louis, MO
I've been using this for a few weeks, listening to audio books that I ripped off CDs (into WMA) and put on an SD card. (I can get them back to the library on time even if I didn't finish the book.) It's pretty good for this, and would be fine for music as well, if you don't want to select specific songs. There is no way to navigate through folders on the card, it just plays every music file it finds in sequential order. Slight drawback is that you can't fast forward or rewind, just jump tracks. When you turn off your car and later return, the unit remembers what track you are on, but not the exact spot in the track (it starts again at the beginning of the track). Not a big deal for music, but with books, it's a little annoying. What I've been doing is just waiting for the end of a track before turning the car off--this works great! The device displays the sequential track number in a large font for a few seconds as a new track starts, so it's easy to see when the tracks change. The sound is good, and the FM signal is strong, as I have not lost the transmission while driving around, and I very rarely get any kind of static. (This was not the case with an older, battery-powered transmitter, which I eventually abandoned.) There are many frequencies available, and since this is set digitally, it is easy to tune them in on your radio. Overall, a good little inexpensive unit!

5 of 5 Great product! Recommended Sunday, June 29, 2008
Tony Gwynn from Highland, CA
I just ordered Mach Speed Wireless FM Transmitter from buy.com, after loading some mp3 music to a flash drive, I inserted to the cigarette outlet in my Mazda 929 and tuned the radio to channel 107.1 FM, The music transmitted to the radio beautifully, I can't expect the quality of sound is that good. I even try to get to a radio station on 107.3 FM , the FM Transmitter took over the station and still give the good music. The only issue is the last song has to be re-played when you start the Transmitter again. This will be the problem if you try to listen a long story or lecture, and it won't be able to go to the place you'd like to continue. However, if you listen a 5-minute song, it will not a big problem. I recommend this product for any casual music listenner only. I would give 5 stars for this because of the price and the quality it gives.

5 of 5 Good Product Saturday, May 24, 2008
A Customer from Buzzards Bay, MA
Wanted a MP3 transmitter for plugging in and the SD card feature seemed like a good idea. Works well. A little bit of whine when using the cable to the MP3 player. Not bad at highway speed. Probably because the car is getting old, and the wiring is getting on, there is some electrical leakage that shows up a a hiss. For the audiophile? - NO - If you want something to get your mp3s to your car radio without a new 200-400 dollar stereo, then this will work. Over all it is a product that works well. Nice to have the adjustable angle to be able to operate the controls easier since both cars have very different angles for the power points.

1 of 5 Poorly built Wednesday, May 21, 2008
A Customer from Portland, OR
I ordered this transmitter based on the good reviews. It's my first FM transmitter so I didn't really know what to expect in terms of quality. When the package arrived, it looked so cheap. But I didn't want to judge it based on appearance, so I eagerly brought it to my car and test it out. I even researched the best channels in my area so I could tune the radio for best reception. The set up was easy, though one of the buttons is sticky. The reception, however, was truly less than desirable. I had to turn my radio volume to nearly the maximum (I normally use about 25/100 volume). The reception was worse than the AM signal. Tried several other channels but none of them work very well either. Needless to say, I'm terribly disappointed.

5 of 5 Works Great Tuesday, May 13, 2008
A Customer from Binghamton, NY
The unit was easy to set up and use and delivers good sound quality through the FM radio. There is no shuffel function, but that has not been a problem since it remembers where it was when it turned off. The plastic seems a bit cheap but after 2 weeks it has not broken.

5 of 5 Nifty little device Saturday, April 19, 2008
A Customer from Springfield, MA
Inexpensive way to play your tunes in your car. I bought a 2gb flash drive form buy.com for 12 bucks and this device about 35 bucks and viloa a portable mp3 player for any vehicle. No worries about your mp3 player being damaged or stolen. It even has a volume control. If it had a random feature I would give it a 5. Works great!!!

4 of 5 Good product. Tuesday, April 15, 2008
Pawan Malpani from Columbus, IN, USA
It is a good product. Features are good and easy to use too. Using SD card and USB drive makes it even easier. The only additional feature I would have loved to have on this is a randon song selection, which we get in an MP3 player. Because of this drawback, all the songs on SD card/Flash drive run in a sequence.

2 of 5 A lousy product Sunday, March 09, 2008
Anshul from San Ramon, CA
Not at all impressive. Mine stopped working within 15 days. Machspeed has horrible customer support. I had to send it back to Machspeed; they repaired it. The repaired one is working as of now, but I have no confidence in this product now. Avoid buying it.

5 of 5 Great Product! Wednesday, January 16, 2008
DP from Chicago, IL
This things works great! Out of the 3-4 FM modulators I own, this one is clearly the best. Compact size, good sound quality, good volume level, plays external audio (MP3), reads SD cards and USB sticks. What more could you ask for? Very easy to use (no manual required, though a short one is provided). I just copied some songs to a 1GB SD card and plugged it in, and it worked like a champ. Resumes playing last song when powered back up. Backlit LCD screen displays track name, FM frequency (0.1MHz steps), elapsed time and track number. The head pivots to just about any angle. My only possible complaint is that the screen is a little small, but I can live with it. I've owned it for several weeks. Great buy with ten buck rebate!

5 of 5 Finally a FM Transmitter that actually Works! Wednesday, January 16, 2008
SE from Indiana
This is about my fifth FM Transmitter and is by far the best one yet! Previous transmitters all pretty much suffered from the same problem--a weak signal. This one comes in loud and clear and gives many choices for channel. Others typically only had 3 or 4 "pre-set" frequencies. Another plus is that it uses cigarette outlet instead of batteries, which probably also helps to boost the signal. Takes all kinds of inputs (every device i have works + memory cards), but is a bit quirky in that if you have the patch cord plugged in, player will not play a USB device or memory card, even though it displays the contents. Not a big deal, just unplug the cord if not in use. However, this took me a while to figure out because i originally thought stereo wasn't receiving the signal... The screen is also very small and nearly impossible to read while driving (depending on where your outlet is located) All in all, its the best FM transmitter i've owned, and i got a good price on it (mine was $19.95 after rebate)... Not perfect, but for $20 bucks, it sounds pretty darn good!

5 of 5 Great alternative to an in-dash unit for older veh Saturday, January 05, 2008
Gary from East, Tennessee
I have a 1995 car and a 1984 truck (both with AM/FM cassettes) and wanted someway to listen to all the MP3s I have at home. I don't know how much longer I will keep the car and didn't want to buy a new stereo for it. I got this unit and a 2 gig SD card and put all my favorites songs on it. It wasn't even half full! I plugged it in our car, set the station and before I found the station, it had already scanned the card and found 525 songs and was playing the first one. Sound quality is good, but not great, like an FM signal (which it is). Have been using it about a week now, and am well pleased with it. I added a small rocker switch next to the lighter socket to turn the socket on and off, and now I just leave the unit plugged in and use the switch to turn it off. The next time I turn it on, it starts playing where it left off. That's nice when you have many songs on the memory card. I got it also because I don't have to let it warm up first (it cold here) I'm well pleased with it.

1 of 5 Horrible product! Tuesday, December 25, 2007
Anshul from San Ramon, CA
I have written 2 reviews about this product before on this site, but Buy.com has not published them. Trying them again the third time. Am not sure if Buy.com will publish it. My experience with this product has been horrible. It worked for 2 weeks and then stopped working at all. It looks good in picture, but in reality it is a lousy product. I would recommend to be away from this product. The packing does not contain any manual, there is no information about this product on internet, no warranty information. I am stuck with this product. Buy.com has refused to return it and I do not see any guarantee information anywhere on the internet.

5 of 5 Easy to use Gizmo Monday, December 24, 2007
Satish Toshkhani from Cockeysville, MD
I have used other similar devices, but this one is very impressive. Very easy to install, good sound quality and almost no static. You do get static once a while, but that is because of some other external FM signals and disturbances. If you set it up on a frequency you know there is no current broadcast, you will never hear any static. The best feature of this device is that it has a small LCD display too on top, which shows what song is being played and other useful information. I have been using it for sometime now without any issues with SD card, USB Flash drives, MP3 player and also with my GPS. Fantastic product for the price you pay. I highly recommend this.

5 of 5 Mach Speed Wireless FM Transmitter Wednesday, December 19, 2007
John from Seattle, WA
This little transmitter works great. I was not sure since my wife had bought a more expensive one last year and it didn't work well at all. For the price this is perfect. I love that I can use my ipod as well as memory stick and SD card. You never know where you'll get a chance to grab music and the media options are very cool. I strongly recommend this little unit.

5 of 5 Great product at great price easy to use Wednesday, December 19, 2007
A Customer from Winter Park, FL
The instructions for use were only 3 lines of text on the back of the box but it was all you needed to use it. Had a SD card with MP3 songs on it, put it in the unit, put unit in cigarette lighter outlet, set radio to FM frequency on the unit and was listening to music. My expectations for the sound quality were not high, but I was surprised how good the sound was. Tried it in 2 different cars (including one with a power outlet instead of a cigarette lighter) with excellent results with both.

I got product on time. This cool gadget is magnificent. I put my MP3 to my SD card or portable USB and plug into the lighter plug choose the station that it pre-selects for you and ... ta da... it works. It even works if you are near another car just set the pre-selected station and you can listen to it as well.

5 of 5 GREAT PLAYER !!! Tuesday, December 18, 2007
teknodog44 from Rochester, NY
I can't say enough about this product. I put an SD card full of mp3's in it, plugged it into the lighter, tuned the FM radio and it played my music. Sound is good, no static. Way easy to use. It even comes with a cord to plug into your mp3 player if you need it, but why plug a player in when you can use an SD card or thumb drive ??? Now I have to get one for my wife. I highly recommend this player.

2 of 5 Dead in 2 weeks! Friday, December 14, 2007
Anshul from San Ramon, CA
I purchased this product looking at the pictures on the website. But when I received the product, it did not look impressive at all. Moreover, there was no documentation with the product. However, it did work fine for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, all of a sudden it stopped functioning. It just doesn't boot up now. I recommend potential buyers to be careful of this product.

5 of 5 Confusing Title, but Really a MP3 Player Wednesday, December 12, 2007
R. Stump from Columbus, OH
I was leary with the title, and couldn't figure out if it was just a transmitter, or actually a stand alone MP3 player. It turns out that it not only is a stand alone MP3 player with a super-strong FM transmitter, but an amazingly simple, compact, and exceptionally good complete device. The LCD screen is quite detailed showing current FM channel to tune to, scrolling ID3 info, and track number. The 5 buttons are simply last track, next track, play/pause, previous FM frequency, and next FM frequency. It worked automatically with my 2 Gig SD memory card (haven't tried a USB drive or external source yet), and just starts playing. It even remembers what song I was on between trips (thankfully, since I don't believe it has a shuffle mode). Great product, at a great price!

5 of 5 Great product and good value Wednesday, December 12, 2007
DC from Spartanburg, SC
Works just like it says. Sounds great on my radio. The two bottom buttons allows broadcast on any radio station (I thought I would only get a few presets). Very versatile. I have used both the USB and SD card. The only negative is I wish it had a power switch. My cig lighter is always energized, and I have to unplud it when not in use. This is no functionality on organizing or selecting playlists. Only put on the SD or USB songs you want to listen. You can only skip for or bac one at a time.

5 of 5 Fantastic Wednesday, December 12, 2007
A Customer from Carrollton, GA
The favorite of my several mp3 players. Plug it in and just wait a minute for it to start transmitting. Tune to the frequency it displays, or + or - one if necessary. Sounds better than the wired player in my GPS system. Good sound at low volume. When used next time, starts play at beginning of last track played. Can skip a song or replay one. Lost my 20gb player and haven't even looked for it.

3 of 5 OK transmitter but not a good player Wednesday, December 12, 2007
A Customer from San diego
If you are looking for a FM transmitter, this may be OK product. But as a player it is pretty bad. Basically it sees all the music files at once and play them in order. It does not see the folder. It remembers the last song but not the time. If you are listening long sound files like audio books etc forget about it. I could not figure out whether there is shuffle option but apparently not. It does recognize the SD card. I haven't tried with USB yet. I plugged my mp3 player with the provided cable. At first It did not work. I noticed that the jack had some left over plastic around it from manufacturing, preventing the perfect contact. I had to shave the jack a little than it started working. However, volume goes down and quality goes bad when used with external mp3 player. So overall, I do not want to deal with the returning process since I already mailed the rebate form but I cannot say I am satisfied with it.

4 of 5 Incredibly flimsy, but it works Wednesday, December 12, 2007
A Customer from Raleigh, NC
I had pretty low expectations given how inexpensive it was, and the quality of construction didn't even meet those -- it was already broken in two different places when it arrived (swivel arm and player face). That said, it still works and lets me decrease my dependency on CDs. At high volume levels on the player, the sound output is really crappy and staticky, but keeping it low results in quite adequate sound.

5 of 5 great little unit Wednesday, December 12, 2007
A Customer from stoughton, wi
excellent price, great little unit. the only quams i have - when playing music from the card reader, it displays the title of the songs and the artist, but you can't read it unless you're about 3 inches from the unit, and secondly, the hiss that comes with using the fm transmitter, which might be a universal gripe with fm transmitters in general. overall tho, a decent unit, a lot of bang for the buck!! safer to carry your music around on a sd card rather than leave your mp3 player sitting around inside the car for tempting eyes.

2 of 5 nice concept, poor execution Tuesday, December 11, 2007
Jason from Denver, CO
I was initially impressed when I plugged this transmitter into my 12v outlet and it came to life with a readable display that shows the input being used, the station playing, and even the song title! And then I tried to change the frequency and I get a big ERROR on the display. Nothing happened, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Again- ERROR. Unplug, replug - now it works! Then I tried to advance to the next song (on an SD card) and I get the ERROR msg again!! This time I take out the SD card and reinsert it. It works again until I try to advance to another song - ERROR!! When this thing works, it is a pretty nifty device, but it only works 50-70% of the time. The rest of the time you spend resetting the thing which becomes infuriating. Also, the spring for the SD slot is much to stiff; I'm afraid I'm going to break my SD card just trying to insert it. Overall, I would never suggest purchasing this unit. Save your money and get one that works well!

5 of 5 Great value Tuesday, December 04, 2007
A Customer from Scottsdale, Arizona
Excellent product! The fact that you can just stick an SD card into the slot and the built-in MP3 player starts playing. I like this particular feature because I can just download what I want to listen to on multiple SD cards and not have to lug an MP3 player with me, plus Ican keep it the cigarette lighter plug and is a nice substitute for the ugly lighter since it looks like a fancy gadget!

4 of 5 Great sound, kludgy interface Tuesday, November 27, 2007
John Andrews from Manchester, NH
I bought this transmitter from another retailer, and the first one I got went *fzzt!*, complete with little wisps of smoke, within 30 seconds of plugging it it. The replacement, however, has been very good. Its signal is one of the strongest I've heard, and changing frequencies is very easy. If it were just an FM transmitter, it would be a good deal at this price. The inclusion of an SD slot and USB port for playing music without an external MP3 player is a bonus - it's too bad the controls for navigating songs are so awful. The tiny screen is pretty much useless unless your power outlet is right in front of you. There's no folder support or separation by artist; you have to key through every song individually. Holding down the next track button accesses the volume control, so you can't even scroll through quickly. Holding down play switches between random and straight through modes. All in all, worth the purchase if you're not depending on it to be your only MP3 player and using it mostly for the FM transmission.

4 of 5 Great -But two Minor Issues Sunday, October 21, 2007
rtozzi from Staten Island, NY
I really liked the idea of this product. Convert dozens of your CDs and load gigabytes of audio into your car with this simple device. Two problems that I have though are: 1. The screen is small and difficult to read when plugged in due to the way the screen face swivels down. In a better design the screen face would rotate so that you could read it regardless of whether the cigarette lighter plug is in your low like in center console or higher your dashboard. 2. The other issue is that the product didn't come with a manual user. Thus I am not currently able use fast-forwarding through a song. The issue hear is, lets say your listening to instructional audio, and you arrive at your destination and turn off your car. The player remembers the last track, but restarts it when power comes back on. Now if you just listened to 9 min of a 10 min audio track, you usually don't want to restart it. Hopefully the second issue will clear up if I hear back from Mach Speed's tech support. No mention of this product was on their website. Not withstanding these two issues, this is a great product and is worth the price
