We no more got the songs loaded that the player locked up and would no longer work for us. I would suggest buying another make. This one isn't worth the money or the hassle trying to get it returned. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 you get what you pay for [please read!] Sunday, December 23, 2007 finchpx@yahoo.com from doesnt matter, usa
if youre looking for an alternative to spending hundreds on an ipod, this is a good device. just be warned, the included software is hokey and difficult to use and apply. the player is hardly user friendly. navigating the device to simply play a song or watch a video will make you want to throw it up against the wall the first day you try it out. with a bit of patience, you can get used to it, but if youre not a patient person, i wouldnt invest the money in this product. the only cool things about this product are the rechargeable battery (CPU USB or AC POWER) and the video player. the device comes with a program that converts video (.avi is the only file i could get to work successfully) files into a much more compressed file called an .AMV file. the quality of the original file is sacrificed quite a bit in the compression process, but for a cheap little device, its a cool feature. the product has a built in speaker that is barely audible in a crowded room. if you are by yourself and listening to very light music, it is a practical use. otherwise, anything you actually want to hear will peak and distort because the volume must be completely maxed out. the audio output (for headphones or a tapedeck adapter in an automobile) works surprisingly well. if you are planning on using it with headphones or with computer speakers, etc., you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality of the audio. i have not tried a lower quality audio file (mp3 or mp4), but higher quality .wma files seem to play just fine through my car speakers. the product features playback of .lrc files. these files supposedly contain images of lyrics to the audio files you have on your player, but the instructions are hardly translated well (from japanese to english) and for a month i have not been able to figure out .lrc file application. either way, best buy got 60 bucks from me for this thing and im stuck with it, but i felt i would write this lengthy review to avert anyone else from buying it and being as disappointed as i am. maybe on of the execs from "Mach Speed" will get enough of these sent their way and change their product. who knows. but if you happen to read this and want to add, or just blow off some steam, my e-mail is finchpx@yahoo.com. peace and merry christmas all. I read great reviews on this player and decided to purchase it for my daughter for Christmas. I got the player, charged it per directions & tried to preload some songs. It shut off after 2 minutes no matter what I did. Mach Speed customer support did pick-up after 10 minutes, but couldn't help. They believe the unit has a short and recommended returning it to the place of purchase. The representative actually said "We can't test every unit that goes out."
The only thing more frustrating than this lame reply is trying to get a replacement & help from buy.coms customer service. First they said they couldn't find my order number (eventhough, I clicked the number on their website). Then they just pointed me to a return page - eventhough my question was about getting a replacement. I guess I have to return it & then order a new one - totally annoying!
I give up trying to get a new one - I'm just returning it for a refund & buying a different brand at a retail store. Up until now, I was a happy buy.com customer - I guess I was just getting lucky. Was this review helpful?
