On Love & Consequences, Gerald LeVert makes a few overtures to hip-hop, but he remains, in his heart, a sensitive loverman -- which is both a good and bad thing. LeVert is a powerful, soulful vocalist who can deliver love ballads as well as any of his contemporaries, but he doesn't always exhibit much musical imagination. "No Sense" may have cameos from rappers Layzie Bone and Ken Dawg, and "That's the Way I Feel About You" is a duet with Mary J. Blige, but they only illustrate that LeVert is from the old school and doesn't really have the desire to bring his music into the present. Which means, of course, that Love & Consequences isn't much different than any other LeVert album from the '90s -- it has a slight modern sheen, but it's a quiet storm album at its heart. It doesn't offer any surprises, but LeVert is a professional -- and that means there are enough solid songs here to make it enjoyable, but not quite enough to make the entire album memorable. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Spawned from a legendary musical father (Eddie Levert, Sr., founder of the O'Jays), Gerald Levert has achieved some major success of his own. LOVE & CONSEQUENCES tackles issues about love and relationships without ever sounding sappy. Levert belts a combination of sexually-charged yet vulnerable lyrics over various types of tracks. There are ballads ("Thinkin' Bout It"), Jeep- thumpers ("No Man's Land," which features Wyclef Jean) and mainstream R&B creations ("Point The Finger" and "Men Like Us," written by R. Kelly).
LOVE & CONSEQUENCES also features contributions from some of R&B's hottest artists. "That's The Way I Feel About You" is an edgy re-make of the Bobby Womack classic, and features an appearance from Mary J. Blige. On "No Sense," Lazie Bone from BoneThugs rips the chorus into something unheard of on any previous Levert album. Although the album is filled with stellar additions from his music biz pals, Levert's powerful voice is the main attraction here.

Artist Overview
As a member of the 1980s R&B vocal group LeVert, Gerald Levert quickly established himself as a passionate, world-class soul singer with a flair for slow jams and love ballads. In his solo career, from the '90s on, he expanded his role to include producer and songwriter, working with celebrated R&B stars like Teddy Pendergrass and Barry White, and with his father Eddie Levert's band, the O'Jays. He scored over 30 hit singles on the R&B and pop charts, and in the mid-'90s formed the super-group LSG with fellow singing stars Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill. Sadly, Levert died of a heart attack in 2006 at the age of 40, leaving a posthumous album, a Grammy nomination, a book (co-written with his father), and a legion of mourning friends, family, and fans.
