3 of 5 Lackluster sci-fi movie Monday, December 06, 1999 Nick from Presque Isle
There is something wrong with science fiction movies today when they build a whole movie around the special effects. This movie is no different. Granted, the special f/x are amazing, but there has to be more to a story than that. And what the heck happened to the ending of the film? There was no ending! The movie just ended, which was actually very distracting and dissappointing. I was let down, and according to the other people who reviewed this movie at this site, they agree with each other. I suggest the movie 'Contact' with Jodi Foster. THAT was a good science fiction movie. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Don't expect Lost in Space the series Tuesday, October 05, 1999 dxtctrue from Concord, Calif
Visually superior. After an obligitory unnecessary battle seen at the beginning, we get to meet the Robinson family. Their character are played quite differently then in the TV series. Mostly for the better. The series was campy but somehow especially the first 5 episodes aided by music by John Williams really hit a cord. The movie score doesn't suck you in like in the TV series, but it sucks you in visually and because the characters parts are played wonderfully. You will love June Lockharts part. Will is played truthfully to the original, and there are of course Mark Goddard, Marta Kristin, Angela Cartwright playing different parts but its nice seeing them anyway. Bill Mumy does an incredible job in his part which cannot be devulged. Smith, well,Smith was OK, The Robot Looked a Little Stupid (real dumb) and the BLARP, it should have been BLOOP, should have been cut completely out of the film. Pennys new personality along with an improved Maureen Robinson attitude made this one heck of an enjoyable flick on its own merits. Ps , You will get a kick out of the deleated scenes plus, you get bonus bloopers if you can get through a 16 question trivia quiz. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Fun to watch Thursday, August 19, 1999 Alan from Louisville,KY
As a fan of the series, I am glad they followed the original plot quite closely (that is a real challenge for modern day Hollywood). The special effects were excellent. If you liked the series
and are a SCI-FI fanatic buy it. I hope there will be several sequels. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Lost my Case Sunday, August 15, 1999 -blue (webmaster from California
This movie has nice special effects, but an extremely weak plot/storyline. The robot is gay(seriously), and some parts of the movie try to win audiences over with emotional cr*p, unless you like that kinda stuff. It's an ok family movie i guess your kids will like it. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 response about rewrites to previous reviewer Saturday, July 24, 1999 A Viewer from Redmond, WA
well if you look at the extras on the DVD they showed what they did cut out and change in the movie, unfortunately it did not help. But I loved the movie anyways, it had great speacial effects and inspired imagination and disbelief at times.
Penny was one of the best parts, her funny video diary entries. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Coulda' Shoulda' Woulda'... Sunday, June 27, 1999 dlv from Redwood City
This movie had me, I grew up on the TV show and was really looking forward to this. The effects and action rocked, the story was moving right along, and the acting was not distracting. Then the ending. Man, what a dissapointment! It could have been such a great movie. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Beautiful joy ride... Monday, June 07, 1999 Jeff Clark ~ debaser from Montgomery, AL
The visuals in this film were so incredibly spectacular that I almost forgot how stupid the ending was. No matter how badly the ending fell apart, I still had a blast watching the special effects. The filmmakers took a terrible script and made a great movie from it. It is a shame though that they didn't order a rewrite before it went into production. Who makes these kind of decisions? With a few touch-ups to the film (especially the ending)this could have been one of the best sci-fi films in years. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Worthy of the name. Sunday, May 16, 1999 RobertD from Long Beach, Ca
I feel the movie lived up to, and surpassed, the original tv series. The acting was ok, the plot was a little strained, but the special effects were very good. The features on this dvd were a great bonus. Including deleted scenes, some of which were completed, and look great. The movie should be fun for any sci-fi fan. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 2 out of 5 Stars Monday, April 26, 1999 Kurios from Midland, Texas
I never much cared for the series, but the special effects looked so good that I had to see this one. I got exactly what I had expected, cool special effects and some really neat ideas about the technology of the future. Just as in the series, it is beyond me why they put up with the doctor. If it were I, he would have been space garbage 16 hours and 10 min into the mission. I can understand why they kept him around in the series, but it just does not make sense to anyone in today's audience over the age of 8. Then they take a perfectly good robot and make a junky look alike from the series. And another thing, that ship you find while you're lost somewhere in space with little chance of getting home, salvage would be on my mind not destruction. What should have happened with this one is to let go of a third rate television series altogether, and use those great effects to make one great Sci-Fi movie standing on two legs of it's own. The ending suggests a part two, please don't torture us again. Was this review helpful?
