Album Notes and Credits

Notes & Personnel Info
The critically acclaimed 2002 documentary DOGTOWN AND Z-BOYS shed light on a band of unsung skateboarding heroes led by the sport's most influential and controversial early practitioner, Tony Alva. The 2005 film LORDS OF DOGTOWN dramatizes the pioneering exploits of Alva and his teammates, mythologizing their personal saga in the process. Like the music from the documentary, the LORDS OF DOGTOWN soundtrack primarily features hard-edged classic rock of the sort favored by the Z-Boys during their mid-to-late 1970s heyday. As a window into blue-collar teenage culture of that period, it works perfectly, collecting great stoner jams, from Black Sabbath's definitive heavy rocker "Iron Man" to Foghat's heavy-blues boogie "I Just Want to Make Love to You." Rod Stewart's wistful, mandolin-driven "Maggie May" is included as counterpoint, and Social Distortion represents another generation of skaters with a cover of the Clash's "Death or Glory."

Producer: Paul Kremen (Compilation); Lia Vollack (Compilation)
