Editor's Note

Peter Jackson's epic trilogy is fully told here, with special extended version of all three LORD OF THE RINGS films included.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING: With THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, director Peter Jackson has achieved a meticulous and captivating adaptation of the first book of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic fantasy trilogy. The setting is Middle-earth, a mythological land populated by elves, dwarves, humans, and the gentle, diminutive hobbits upon whom the story centers. One hobbit, Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), unexpectedly comes into possession of an ancient magical ring so powerful it invariably corrupts anyone who wears it. In order to prevent the ring's erstwhile owner, the dark lord Sauron, from reclaiming the ring and taking over Middle-earth, a motley band of comrades set out to destroy it in the fires of Mount Doom, where it was forged. Included in the group are Frodo and hobbits Sam (Sean Astin), Merry (Dominic Monoghan), and Pippin (Billy Boyd); the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen); human warriors Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) and Boromir (Sean Bean); the dwarf Gimli (John Rhys-Davies); the elf Legolas (Orlando Bloom). Along the way, they wage battle with monsters, demons, and Sauron's evil minions, all brought to life by spectacular digital technology.

LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS: Picking up where the first film left off, Peter Jackson's THE TWO TOWERS throws the remaining members of the Fellowship into the scattered chaos of Middle-earth, now fully under siege by the forces of Sauron. While Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) journey to the dreaded Mordor, Merry (Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin (Billy Boyd) are held captive by orcs, and Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) search for their abducted companions. Soon Frodo and Sam are joined by the sulking and duplicitous Gollum (portrayed by the voice and motion-captured acting of Andy Serkis), who becomes their guide through the barren lands leading to Mount Doom. Meanwhile Merry and Pippin encounter the looming Treebeard (voiced by Rhys-Davies) and Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli find themselves in the land of Rohan, accompanied by an old friend. As the tale continues, each scenario becomes more perilous, and fierce battles erupt at both Isengard, home of the treacherous Saruman (Christopher Lee), and the massive Helm's Deep.

LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING: THE RETURN OF THE KING, the third and final film in Peter Jackson's THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, finds Middle-earth on the cusp of great change. Weary hobbits Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) venture further into the dark realm of Mordor, guided by the increasingly desperate Gollum (Andy Serkis), the two-faced former owner of the Ring that Frodo must destroy in the fires of Mount Doom. Meanwhile Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and Pippin (Billy Boyd) contend with the deranged ruler Denethor (John Noble) at the once-mighty city of Minas Tirith, as Merry (Dominic Monaghan) joins Éowyn (Miranda Otto) and the Riders of Rohan to hold back the forces of Sauron. Amidst the chaos, Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) must rise to his destiny, aided by Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) in assembling allies for a massive battle that will decide the fate of Middle-earth.

5 of 5 TLOTR Trilogy Platinum/Extended Series Wednesday, October 08, 2008
A Viewer from Ayden, NC

Lots of choices to make with this set! Where to start---just the movies or the movies with the cast's commentary or maybe with the writers/producers' commentary or how about the crew's commentary? Four discs per movie adds up to loads of entertainment! Plan to spend a full weekend watching this! I found it to be well worth the cost. The set arrived in very good shape and in a timely manner. I am well pleased with my purchase!

4 of 5 LOTR Trilogy Platinum Series Thursday, June 05, 2008
A Viewer from Brighton, MA
Overall 4 stars only because I was disappointed in the shipping of the DVDs. While the actual DVDs were in find condition, the boxes were scuffed and damaged - not what I was expecting in a product just shipped to me! Otherwise, the shipping was not delayed or problematic. The movies themselves are fantastic! A wonderful trilogy, and wonderful to watch it in the extended version. My satisfaction with the movies is definitely at a 5-star level.

5 of 5 LOTR Trilogy Platinum Series Sunday, May 18, 2008
jimspencer7 from Houston, Texas
This without a doubt is my favorite addition to my video collection. I am still amazed at the production from it's inception at the theater to now. Now with addition of extra footage only helps to underscore how well done the series was done by a brilliant director in Peter Jackson. Seeing the series today is no less stunning than when I saw it the first time.

Fast shipping and excellent price, the only thing that I was disappointed in is that the description did not say Wide Screen Version. I would rather of had Full Screen. Other than that it was a great buy!

5 of 5 Definitely "My Precious"!!! Tuesday, May 01, 2007
Michael Chou from Binghamton, NY
I already reviewed the regular "Motion Picture Trilogy" containing the non-extended editions of the legendary Lord of The Rings masterpieces on one set. However, this newest edition is a grand improvement on the previous edition. This item is a much, MUCH better investment than the old theatrical counterparts and is perhaps the greatest DVD purchase one will likely ever make. A lot "Director's Cut" scenes are usually just added footage that doesn't do a whole lot to add onto the theatrical edition of movies with examples like Star Wars, Manhunter, or even most of the "Aliens" movies as well. The extra material is just that, extras, that wouldn't kill me to never see again. It's a totally different story altogether with the "Lord Of The Rings" movies altogether. While the regular theatrical editions were mind-blowing, the extended cuts of the same films do wonders in fleshing out the story and expanding the characters a lot more. Several characters that were not much more than background people are shown much more screen time, stories are greatly expanded, other scenes are much more meaningful, and the movies overall have a totally different feel altogether thanks to all of the extra footage that was not included on the theatrical editions. Now as I watch them, the old editions of them are rendered almost completely obsolete due to the chopped up nature of them. I sometimes wonder if Peter Jackson grimaced when he had to leave a lot of extra shots out of the movies to fit them onto the theatres when they were released. "Fellowship" has 30 minutes of extra footage included to a length of 3 and a half hours. "The Two Towers" was extended 43 minutes to a total of 3 hours and 42 minutes and finally "The Return of The King" is extended by a grand 50 minutes and the ultimate result is a whopping 4 hours and 11 minutes long! I don't know about you but I don't know how one can make a longer movie like this but Jackson did it! The grand total of all three extended editions is at least an astronomical 11 hours long! This is just the movies themselves. As for all of the extras on the "Extended Editions", there are over a days worth of extras for surf through on the latter two discs of each film set. The things on them are too great to explain in detail with this review. Whether you buy them individually or all at once on this massive gift set, "The Lord of The Rings" trilogy goes down as the greatest trilogy of all time. You could not make a better purchase. I swear it!

5 of 5 Awesome movie, awesome sound. Friday, February 09, 2007
A Viewer from Pennsylvania
I wanted this specific version of LOTR Trilogy because of the Widescreen formatting and the 6.1 DTS Sound. I don't really care about the extras or the extended version (but it is a plus), but the widescreen version on my upscaling DVD player combined with the DTS sound turned way up is just unbelievable!

5 of 5 Excellent Thursday, September 28, 2006
A Viewer from WA
These movies are amazing. Once you hit play, you will want to watch them all straight through. The storyline is one of the most captivating, unique, and fascinating you will ever see. The acting is superb and the casting is perfect. If anyone is looking into watching the trilogy, I recommend buying this box set because you will watch them many times over in years to come. Not only that, but these extended versions offer much more valuable content than the versions shown in theaters. These DVDs are a must have to anyone's collection.

5 of 5 Todas estan subtituladas en espaol? Sunday, January 09, 2005
a19980811 from Lima
Muchas gracias. I want to know if THE THREE MOVIES included in this product has subtitles in spanish.

5 of 5 The Most Epic Movie Ever Produced! Wednesday, December 15, 2004
A Viewer from Carrollton, Georgia
These are the best movies ever made. With over 12 hours of actual movie time in the extended versions you can never get bored of watching this epic adventure. These are probably the best movies produced to date and every aspect is incredibly detailed. Peter Jackson has taken the world renown masterpiece book "The Lord of The Rings" and made it into a world renown masterpiece movie. The hardcore Tolkien fan and casual movie watcher will not be disapoointed!
