| | Tech Reviews | | Logitech Squeezebox Boom Review techradar.com Reviews Published on: 12/10/2008 11:05 AM | | The original Squeezebox, and subsequent Squeezebox Duet, need to be plugged into an amplifier or hi-fi to work. However, Logitech's latest in its line of wi-fi -enabled music streamers exploits the company's proficiency in iPod docks to offer streaming and speakers in one tight package. Looking like a radio alarm clock, partly because it is one, the Squeezebox Boom features 30W of on-board amplification, and two 0....read the full review |

5 of 5 Great Product Wednesday, May 13, 2009 Aaron from Salt Lake City, Utah
Great quality, amazing sound, and just what I was looking for to have an easy way to play music anywhere in or around my house. The internet radio integration and line in (for an mp3 player or whatever) are an added bonus. The user interface is easy to understand if you have used other Squeezebox products, but takes a little getting used to otherwise. Setup on my home wireless network went smoothly. Overall, I couldn't be happier. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 simply a well designed product Monday, January 26, 2009 Ted P from Burlington, Vermont
The boom offers a very nice interface to a music library, online services (Pandora for me), and internet radio.
I was especially pleased to see that most of my local radio stations were easily accessible.
Using the preset buttons, I can easily tune into my Pandora stations and my local radio buttons seamlessly.
Cons:
Bass is a little weaker than I'd like. The display could be a bit wider. The nob switches between a menu navigation tool and a volume control in a way that I haven't quite figured out. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Money well spent. Tuesday, January 06, 2009 John S from Tallahassee
I will keep it simple. This is the best consumer product I have ever purchased. I have it hooked up to a small subwoofer in my bedroom. The sound quality is very good given it's size. Thanks to the Squeezebox I have reignited my passion for music. I have subscribed to the free versions of Pandora, Rhapsody and Slacker. Each music service offers something a little different. In the past few months I was missing my favorite NPR broadcasts because I was working out. Now I can listen to them whenever I want to by tuning into a podcast. I also dragged all of my CD's out of the closet and loaded them onto my laptop. Thanks to Squeezebox's interface, I can now listen to them hassle free. By far, the best feature of the Squeezebox is the remote control in combination with the easy to read display. At two o'clock in the morning, with the room completely dark, I can surf for a radio station anywhere in the world. I can also find my favorite podcast, or I can find just about any song by any artist and play it in a few minutes. Frankly, I am still learning all of the things my Squeezebox can do. I would strongly encourage anyone who has access to broadband to get a Squeezebox. If you are already paying for the service, the Squeezebox will pay for itself through added enjoyment. The same thing goes for those of you who subscribe to Sirius satellite radio. Why not listen at home as well as in your car? Great product, well built, easy to use after a little time spent learning the ropes. To sum it up, the Squeezebox simply does too much to describe in a few paragraphs, and it does it very well. 2 of 5 Nightmare to set up and unstable Tuesday, December 30, 2008 Stanley from New York, NY
Set up took too long and instruction book is weak on detail - its a radio after all. Unit is unstable and has to be reset from scratch periodically for no apparent reason. Easier to play radio directly off the Apple/PC and forget this nightmare. Was this review helpful?

Its not often i write a review but this is one product that far exceeded my expectations and had to tell about.
I am a big fan of music and one problem I have in our house is music formats and location. Right out of the box it was a breeze to set up. It found my WLAN perfectly, entered my WPA key and had an IP address in seconds.
From Internet Radio to WMP and iTunes playlist this box plays them all, very well. With Squeezebox Music Center loaded on my central PC it found all my media files and can play everything, including video files, (audio). My fav features are:
* Sleep music timer (great when you want beach sound effects to fall asleep, under extras)
* Sound effect!
* Easy one push add-to-favorites for instant pre-sets.
* WMP, iTunes playlist support or a random mix of everything.
* Your choice of Internet Radio
* The alarm, wake up to whatever you want on whatever day you want.
* Amazing sound quality!
It comes with an audio input to plug in your MP3 player but I have to ask WHY? if you can access everything so easily off your PC. I guess for guests..??? I would have asked for audio outputs so I could plug my external outdoor speakers in to it. I think the internal amp could handle this fine...
I haven't geeked out on all the features yet but hope to do so soon... Was this review helpful?

I have an existing slimserver running so getting this boom running took about 2 minutes. The sound from the unit is outstanding. Impressive base without being excessive. It was tight and musical. It's a fairly pricey unit for a boom box but it's fairly compact and smaller than I thought so it takes up very little counter space.
On the downside, browsing through your music one line at a time is an experience for a past decade. It's inexcusable you can't see at least 10 albums or artists at a time and in color for $280. Makes searching for music a drag. Albums also take a good 3-5 seconds to begin playing.
Still, I'm very happy with it and would buy it again in a second. Was this review helpful?
