I almost bought the QuickCam UltraVision for the road but many had said this cam was of quality. I must agree; it is excellent. You will not be disappointed and the nice small zippered bag is a great accessory for me when I travel. I travel 3 weeks per month and enjoy using the cam with Skype, etc. Was this review helpful?

i have a couple of webcams, and my whole family & i communicate with each other via skype video calls, so i'm familiar with the quality of many different makes/models including creative and microsoft as several models from logitech. i use this one with my laptop and i often take it to work. one day when i was chatting with my sister, there was a book sitting on top of a divider wall about 10 feet behind me (so about 11 from the camera). she said she could read the title on the spine. the picture on this camera is SO clear & sharp it's amazing, and everything about using it is easy. the microphone picks up my voice easily, so if i'm at work, i don't have to raise it and disturb the people around me in order for the person i'm calling to hear me. i am ordering another one now b/c i'm spoiled and now unhappy with the creative camera i use with my desktop machine at home... this camera is not that much more than other models, but it is heads & shoulders above when it comes to performance. Logitech really takes pride in their webcams and in my opinion, they have produced some pretty high quality webcams for the price. I tried several webcams in Logitech's lineup before settling on the QuickCam for Notebooks Pro. The QuickCam Pro 9000 is exactly the same in terms of picture quality and performance, but is larger and doesn't come with a carrying case or stand like this one. However, the USB cable is rather short, since it's designed to slip onto your notebook. You will need a USB extension to use it from any sort of distance from the computer.
Logitech has some really good software that provides a lot of control over the picture, and can be adjusted in real time while using any application that is using the webcam. My biggest gripe has to be the automatic RightLight technology. This was designed to keep the picture looking great even when the light levels are low. One of the settings it uses is low light boost. This seems to be the main level for increasing the picture brightness in low light. However, even on my brand new 2.4GHz Intel Core2 Duo computer, this setting drops the frame rate significantly. IT's the equivalent of reducing the shutter speed on a camera to let in more light. My recommendation is to turn off Rightlight and make sure low light boost is always set to a minimum, which typically gives you 30 frames per second or higher at 640x480 resolution (SD TV quality). If it's too dark, they do have more standard brightness/contrast settings that can brighten it up, but the best solution is to turn on some more light in the room. Another gripe is the autofocus. It's slow and gets lost easy. I recommend setting it to manual and keep the distance at maximum. The only time this is a problem is when you want to show something up close to the camera, in which case you can manually focus it.
Probably the best thing about this camera is that it is certified by Skype for their new High Quality video functionality. I highly recommend this combination for video conferencing. It's free and works great. My neighbor was communicating from Texas to Australia and it was like they were in the next house.
Oh yeah, and if you have kids (or are video conferencing with some), be sure to check out Logitech's video effects. These allow you to change the image the other people see from you in some really funny ways. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Logitech's software may not stable Saturday, December 01, 2007 A Customer from San Jose, CA
This is the third generation QuickCam Pro for notebook that I have. The Auto Focus is the main reason to purchase. It's really amazing feature and very useful for the conference call.
There are two choose when you install software. You can install driver only or driver with Logitech software. Usually, I only install driver only. But, this time, I tried the Logitech software and got some bad experiences. First thing is the Skype program warned me that Logitech's software try to control it. After that, I feel my Skype is not stable. It happened twice that I cannot hang up the video conference. Second thing is that my system hang once when I use the video recording feature. I cannot stop it until unplug the power. However, so far it's ok after I change to driver only mode. Was this review helpful?

I had great experience buying many electronic toys from Buy.com. Their price is always the lowest among online sellers. At Buy.com you can save time comparing price of the item you buying with other sellers like Circuit City and J&R, etc before making decision to order. At Buy.com you mostly can enjoy the free shipping charge. I highly recommend every one to buy your stuffs here. What I want more from Buy.com is if they could carry more items than what they carry now. Was this review helpful?
