 Editor's Note
A Texas oil company attempts to buy out a Scottish fishing village for a refinery, and the result is utter confusion. One of the town's least prominent citizens owns a strategic piece of property which he refuses to sell. A warm, acclaimed comedy from writer/director Forsyth (GREGORY'S GIRL).

5 of 5 Charming and witty - the sleeper of the century Wednesday, September 29, 1999 ma8rk from Petaluma, California
Possibly the greatest movie you've never heard of. It's got it all...capitalistic communists, hyper-sexed inn keepers, an excentric oil baron, a Hungarian Texan 'telex man' with a Scottish surname, a mermaid, a deeply disturbed therapist, a quiet little Scottish village chock full of quirky characters, unbelievable scenery, and a soundtrack that stands alone. No doubt about it, if I could watch only 5 movies for the rest of my life, this one would be at the top of my list. They just don't make 'em any better than this! Was this review helpful?
