| Alice in Chains have been one of the most powerful forces in music over the past decade. They came out of the explosion of new music from Seattle in the late 1980's where they played a crucial role in forging the connection between hardrock and alternative music. This album affirms that this group is one of the powerful live forces in music and is the first legitimate collection of the band's concert performances. The fan demand spawned 50 live bootleg CD's over the past decade. LIVE captures the band at its best. The 15 songs on the CD are taken from three live performances recorded in 1990, 1993, and from the band's last show in 1996. This is a must have to your music collection.

Pre-dating the band's Columbia recordings is the country-punk track "Queen of the Rodeo," also found on the box set MUSIC BANK. This track is a notable inclusion, showing that Alice In Chains have a sense of humor behind the wall of musical gloom they've made for themselves. | | Best displayed on "Would?" and "Angry Chair," the tasteful, all-too-often overlooked drumming of Sean Kinney shines brightly here. The included version of "Love Hate Love" has a Doors-like intensity, with Layne Staley's vocal dynamics piloting the track like a vessel. LIVE is short on stage banter and thankfully long in unpolished, raw, powerful live recordings of these seminal Seattle hard rock masters. |
