| | | Features: DVD Meet Jo, Beth, Amy and Meg. They're the March sisters, the Little Women of Mervyn LeRoy's Academy Award-winning Technicolor version of the cherished Louisa May Alcott novel. Set during the Civil War, it chronicles the Marches' lives and loves, underscoring the era's expectations about a woman's place in the world. Golden-tressed Elizabeth Taylor portrays pretentious Amy, Janet Leigh is earnest Meg and Margaret O'Brien is dear, tragedy-stricken Beth. June Allyson plays spunky Jo, resolved to be a writer, but unaware that the elusive muse she seeks is the life she shares with her sisters and mother (Mary Astor).
 Editor's Note
This lush and beautifully photographed production of Louisa May Alcott's beloved novel contains more star power than any of its predecessors or successors in the 20th century. The setting is Concord, Massachusetts, during the Civil War, and Marmee Marach (Mary Astor) is attempting to raise her four teenage daughters in a time of deprivation and with her husband away fighting the war. June Allyson (THE GLENN MILLER STORY, THE STRATTON STORY) stars as Jo, the tomboy bookworm. Margaret O'Brien plays the selfless and tragic Beth. Elizabeth Taylor, in a perfect casting choice, plays the artistic Amy, and beautiful Janet Leigh (TOUCH OF EVIL, PSYCHO) takes on the role of responsible Meg. All of these stars turn in fine performances under the experienced coaching of director Mervyn LeRoy (MADAME CURIE, WATERLOO BRIDGE).
 Plot Summary
This remake of the 1933 classic is Mervyn LeRoy's bright film version of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel about a quartet of sisters learning humorous morality lessons and growing up during the Civil War in Massachusetts.
