The Wireless-N Home Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology: Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections up to 3 times farther than standard Wireless-G.

With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds up to 9 times as fast as standard Wireless-G. But unlike other speed-enhanced technologies, Wireless-N can dynamically enable this double-speed mode for Wireless-N devices, while still connecting to other wireless devices at their respective fastest speeds. In congested areas, the "good neighbor" mode ensures that the Router checks for other wireless devices in the area before gobbling up the radio band.

To help protect your data and privacy, the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. It can serve as your network's DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility.

The incredible speed of Wireless-N makes it ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and Voice over IP telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams through the network at the same time, with no degradation in performance. With the Linksys Wireless-N Home Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games, and run media-intensive applications at incredible speeds, without the hassle of stringing wires!

5 of 5 Really Cool for Techies Wednesday, October 28, 2009
    Duey from Virginia Beach

Really Cool if you a techie, if not then well you get all of these bad reviews. And my advice is that is IF YOUR NOT TECH TYPE OF PERSON THEN THIS IS NOT FOR YOU! But the speed is good from what I can tell and I loaded the firmware from the linksys website pretty easy; works great I would recommend this to anyone who knows what they are doing.

    5 of 5 Cheap n-series router Wednesday, June 03, 2009
    A Customer from Hadley MA
This is an excellent buy for an n router. Certified refurb is like new. I did not use the on provided software and instead installed dd-wrt and made this into a bridge to wire my home office. Considerable performance improvement over using g wireless

4 of 5 good deal for the price Tuesday, February 24, 2009
    A Customer from Florida
This model is great and works fine with dd-wrt v24 std. The biggest downside is that the antennas are hardwired, so no upgrade possibilities there without opening the case and dealing with solder. I only used the regular firmware briefly, but wi dd-wrt I get good coverage even at 15mw transmit power (reduced from 28mw but can be amplified too). The router has been completely stable, but I have it set to auto-reboot once a week. I have a VOIP phone and can call, download, stream video, and email on the network at the same time without any problems and I have had zero connection problems with wireless even though I have a b/g and n mixed network with multiple machines.

    5 of 5 All Good Thursday, January 08, 2009
    JJ from Chicago IL
Worked right out the box no issue. Based on the reviews I read, I did not use the setup CD. Just connected through their web interface to 192.168.1.1 and logged in with default Admin password and configured the router took less than 5mins. Next I will try to load dd-wrt but the Linksys software is working great for me. I am only running 802.11g range is alot better than my old D-Link router.

5 of 5 it doesnt get any better than this Thursday, January 08, 2009
    thomas gaisser from cherokee, al
i got it, took it out of the box, plugged it in, rebooted the system and tada.....im good to go. it got here quickly and is worth every penny. I have 2 more of these i bought new from buy.com and this refurbished one is just as good. no way to tell any difference. might as well save the money. i personally dont use the setup disk. i prefer to have windows control my network connections but to each his own.

    4 of 5 wireless N Monday, October 13, 2008
    D Werth from New York
My previous Linksys-G failed in the wireless mode. It also was refurbished. I was interested in obtaining more or better range. The information on the N said that it would provide that, so I upgraded. Set up was easy and there were no problems. It worked well, but I was very disappointed that there was no improvement in the range. It worked just like the G. Although happy with having a working network again there was no advantage to me to go to the N. I also hope this one this unit is more durable than the last one.

5 of 5 Seems to work OK Wednesday, October 01, 2008
    A Customer from Hewitt, NJ
I used this wireless device just as a wireless access point behind my main router/firewall. Is working ok after I change to a BG-mix to get better range and switched the channel. Don't currently have an n type device yet.
