The Wireless-N Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections up to 4 times farther than standard Wireless-G.

With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds up to 12 times as fast as standard Wireless-G. But unlike other speed-enhanced technologies, Wireless-N can dynamically enable this double-speed mode for Wireless-N devices, while still connecting to other wireless devices at their respective fastest speeds. In congested areas, the "good neighbor" mode ensures that the Router checks for other wireless devices in the area before gobbling up the radio band.

To help protect your data and privacy, the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. It can serve as your network's DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility.

The incredible speed of Wireless-N makes it ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and Voice over IP telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams through the network at the same time, with no degradation in performance. With the Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games, and run media-intensive applications at faster than 10/100 wired network speeds, without the hassle of stringing wires!

4 of 5 Pleased with it Sunday, October 12, 2008
Jake from New York

I am not a network guy so I don't know everything this router could do. All I can say is that I have bought it to replace an ancient one from Netgear that would only allow the traffic flow at 700 kbps. I have 4 pcs in my network and so far this Lynksis router handled it well. The problem I have encountered initially was with one of my laptops having old driver. The router would get all confused and drop connection for all other pcs. I installed the new driver and the problem went away. Another thing that I found annoying was that when one of my pcs begins to download at high speed all my other pcs slow down to a crawl. I was able to throttle the download speed on offending PC but not on the router's side. Otherwise than those 2 issues, I would recommend this router to anyone who is not too heavily involved with networking. It serves the basic purpose.

5 of 5 802.11n is Awesome Monday, August 04, 2008
Tambra from Dayton, OH
The new LinkSys WRT300N Wireless Router is amazing! I set it up in about 10 minutes on both of my computers (laptop & desktop) running XP Pro. The EasyLink Advisor is a simple to navigate GUI. I'm getting 54Mbps on the laptop but it is my Intel 3945G internal wireless card causing the slowdown - need to upgrade it. On the desktop I'm getting 270Mbps!

1 of 5 Nothing but a waist of time Thursday, March 20, 2008
wusit2ya from San Diego Ca.
I purchased two Manufacturer: LINKSYS Mfg Part#: WRT300N and after two days working with Linksys i am told they are both bad units" purchased at different times" and had to send them back, what a waist of time and now i see they are rated at one star. Best buy returned both units and i ordered this D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router - DIR-655 down loaded the soft wear and hooked it up and was up and running after one call to D link to add a password. They have it set up this way so for warranty purposes. Final comment best bang for the buck. By the way customer service at Linksys is really bad each time had to wait one hour to talk to someone that spoke bad English and spent another couple hours on the phone trying to make their unit work to be told to just send it back and try another one.

2 of 5 Difficult setup Sunday, May 28, 2006
A Customer from Brooklyn, NY
I bought this router to replace a 2-year old Netgear router. I have been unable to get to certain Websites since I installed it. If I am wired to the router, no issue. If I go wireless, issues. I have worked with several Linksys support personnel, but they can't figure out the problem. We tweaked some of the settings, but so far no luck. I have a Linksys G-PCI card in my computer, and it is supposed to be compatible. I even turned off the router's security settings and my McAfee firewall and antivirus. But even being completely exposed to the world did me no good. I am thinking of returning it, if I can't resolve this issue.
