| | | The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect both screaming fast Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b at 11Mbps) devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Connect four PCs directly, or attach more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.
Once your computers are connected to the Router and the Internet, they can communicate with each other too, sharing resources and files. All your computers can print on a shared printer connected anywhere in the house. And your computers can share all kinds of files -- music, digital pictures, and documents. Keep all your digital music on one computer, and listen to it anywhere in the house. Organize all of your family's digital pictures in one place, to simplify finding the ones you want, and easing backup to CD-R. Utilize extra free space on one computer when another's hard drive starts to fill up.
The new push button setup feature makes it easy to configure your wireless devices. Just push the button on the router and on your other SecureEasySetup-enabled wireless device to automatically create an encryption-secured wireless connection. TKIP and AES protects your data and privacy with up to 128-bit industrial-strength encryption. The Router can serve as a DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Advanced configuration is a snap with the web browser-based interface.
With the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games with flexibility, speed, security and simplicity!

5 of 5 Router Linksys Wireless G WRT54GL Monday, May 18, 2009 Mary from Mississippi
I ordered my router one day and it was at my door the next morning.
I am very happy with the preformance of this Router. I would tell a friend to buy this one. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Signal Range! Saturday, March 21, 2009 ~B~ from Columbiaville, MI
I was a little worried, at first that it may slow my PCs cable connection, but I have not noticed any problems, yet. As far as the Wireless connection goes, I am pleased. Not only do I get excellent signal strength throughout my house, but I also walked around outside with very good to good signal strength all around my property. I had to walk two hundred feet away, before the signal decreased to poor. All in all, it met my expectations. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Router Wednesday, February 04, 2009 Mike from Vestavia Hills, AL
The Linksys WRT54GL is an absolutely great router. Setup is simple and quick. There were no "work arounds" or issues. Even connecting securely with my laptop and ROKU box were simple. Great value! Great product! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Wow - Set up was super easy. Tuesday, February 03, 2009 Michele from Cleveland Ohio
This is the second Linksys router I have had in my home. I read many reviews where people had difficulty setting this up. I followed the included instructions and it took less than 15 minutes. My son set up our first one, so I had no knowledge of how to do it. The only reason I bought a new one is because my son took the other one when he moved to his own place.
We never had trouble with our first (4 years old)and he's still using it.
BTW Delivery from Buy.com was really fast too. Ordered Sunday night and received it Wednesday morning with the standard (low cost) shipping. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy Set Up! Thursday, January 22, 2009 Mark from Memphis Tn
Open the box followed the instructions and it worked perfectly first time. Step by step instructions on set up make this very easy to use. Performance has been good so far Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 WAP IS VERY EASY TO SETUP Sunday, January 18, 2009 Tom Baker from Tucson AZ
I had a WRT54G before and I could not setup WAP security, and it was very simple to setup on the GL model. After Cristmas there were no less than 5 WI-FI's in range of my house. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works Great ! Simple Installation. Great Range. Sunday, January 04, 2009 optimus28 from Liverpool, Pa.
It only took 5 minutes to setup a basic network in my home.
Follow simple directions on CD, no drivers to install, XP pick it right out. 2 simple wire connections. One from DSL modem to
router then computer DSL wire to port in router. Power it up and presto, home network.
My son now can walk around anywhere the house with his laptop.
Very powerful, great range.
I live in a 14' X 70' mobile home trailer with another mobile home attached to it byway of a 4' X 8' breezeway.
I thought with all the metal sheeting on the 2 trailers the router wouldn't work.
But it works great, Now I can keep him out of my computer room and he can stay in his bedroom.

5 of 5 Worth every penny! Thursday, December 25, 2008 Mehul Loves Cricket from Sunnyvale, CA
This is a great router in terms of reliability, functionality and stability. I have been getting an excellent signal strength throughout my apartment, and works flawlessly with Tomato. I am very happy with my purchase, and WRT54GL is highly recommended to anyone who is in the market for a solid router. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Advanced Router Monday, December 22, 2008 A Customer from Los Angeles, CA
This router is awesome if you are looking to run DD-WRT open source firmware on it. It runs a linux based system and using DD-WRT it can be customized to do anything and is VERY solid if you use heavy internet and need many ports for many applications. Works like a charm for that purpose. It actually is not that great if you use the regular firmware and want this simply as a router, then I'd honestly recommend using something cheaper as its not better than any cheaper models unless you use its functionality to run other firmware products. 5 of 5 Great Router Wednesday, December 17, 2008 Darlene from Tallahassee, FL
My son needed us to upgrade to a wireless router while he was home during college break with his MAC Book. I was a bit concerned since we run WINDOWS and asked for help from my local phone company. I bought this on a recommendation and glad I did. It was a snap to install and worked as soon as it was up and running! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Linksys WRT54GL wireless router is fantastic! Monday, December 15, 2008 Janie Massey from Danielsville, Georgia
This router was so easy to set up and works flawlessly with both wired and wireless connections to it.
I replaced another brand of wireless router that gave me constant problems. What a relief to get this great router that went right to work out of the box. I highly recommend it.
I have read about some firmware (Not from Linksys) that can make it do even more but haven't needed to check it out. It doesn't need to do any more than it does now.
KUDO's to linksys for the WRT54GL! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 great purchase Sunday, November 16, 2008 Jane from Mystic, CT
I bought this product on the advice of a friend who said he had gone through several routers, and this one was the best. He was right. The purchase process was easy and fast. Set up seemed simple, but I had trouble with it so I got onto the linksys help site, and within an hour all was straightened out and now I am wireless and can't believe I waited so long to hook up. The problem was that my laptop had to be reprogramed, that's why it took so long. I am delighted with this product and the freedom to be wireless. I would highly recommend this product, and the suppost system that went with it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 great product Sunday, November 16, 2008 Jane from Mystic, CT
I bought this product on the advice of a friend who said he had gone through several routers and this one was the best. He was right. The purchase was fast and easy but I had trouble setting up the system. I went onto the linksys help site and within 45 minutes I was wireless and happy. The reason it took so long ws that my laptop had to be reprogramed which the tech did. He was very helpful and efficient. I can't believe that I waited so long to buy a router. 5 of 5 Outstanding!!! Saturday, November 15, 2008 Alan C from New Braunfels, TX
I've been using this router now going on a month. I've had zero(0) problems with it thus far. The router is very easy to setup. I however, have an advanced network configuration and the router is performing to those specifications flawlessly! I switched to linksys from netgear. The netgear router that I had been using for a couple of years was a piece of junk. I had always had problems with it. I highly recommend this router to anyone in a home or business. 5 of 5 You just cannot beat this router Wednesday, November 12, 2008 Ron from Jericho, VT
The folks shopping for the GL version of the popular WRT54 line of routers know exactly what they are getting...A reliable FLASHABLE router that can be configured to be a router worth 3X the price. With the right firmware it is easily set up as a wireless bridge, or WDS bridge & access point, etc, etc. Tomato and DD-WRT are excellent examples. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Even I could easily get this functioning. Sunday, November 02, 2008 Dick Garvey from Bow, WA
I had put off installing a wireless router because I hate reading instructions. Also, it is not advisable for me to have something that is easy to throw, in my hands, when I get frustrated. But, lo and behold, this router was a breeze. There are many labels that tell you in large letters to insert the installation CD before you hook anything up. I did, followed the simple steps, and was up and running. I am asking this router to power through 3 walls, and about 100 feet. It works flawlessly. Could not have been easier. 5 of 5 excellent product Wednesday, October 29, 2008 A Customer from Palatine, Il
Easily set up & totally functional out of the box. Easily upgraded to using third party software. The whole deal very painless! Does exactly what I wanted and need- which is excellent performance to present standards. It is not "pre-N" or similar - I don't see the benefit for my usage - it totally keeps up with my ISP speeds over the wireless, so what's the point. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The Perfect Wireless Router Wednesday, October 29, 2008 Jack Penry from Terre Haute, IN
This unit does everything as intended, and it does it well. It's easy to set up and just works. Not only that, but the firmware is upgradeable and open. There is nothing bad to say about this router!! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Quick & Easy Setup - Works flawlessly Tuesday, October 28, 2008 Todd K from Reedsburg WI
While I am a basic user and didn't really need the "L" version, I liked the idea of having options available down the road that this version gives. The setup was quick and easy using the included CD (I'm not sure what the quick set-up button on the front panel is even for as I didn't use it). Very simple and this was the 1st time I've ever messed with hooking up a wired and wireless network in my home. Product range is good and the 4 port switch gives great expandability to my network.
Shipping was also very quick and I'm please completely with this purchase Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Fantastic Product Tuesday, October 21, 2008 Shekhar from Milwaukee WI
I recently procured this wireless Router from Buy.com and I am greatly satisfied with its performance. To my surprise, it was delivered very quickly and it was very easy to set it up. Now we can access internet from any part of our house. Would highly recommend for home usage. Good value for money. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Good performance - no problems. Tuesday, September 16, 2008 Alan from Queen Creek, AZ
I previously owned a Netgear WGT624 that worked fine for several years until recently when the wifi radio would intermittantly die and require a power reset to come back. This increased in frequency until the router was almost unusable. After quite a bit of research, I selected the Linksys WRT54GL and I have no complaints. I had the unit up and running within 10 minutes - solid performance on wifi with no issues. The thought of using another feature-rich firmware was too tempting, so after one week of stability, I updated the firmware using Tomato 1.21. The router continues to operate without any problems and I'm very happy with this purchase. Was this review helpful?

THIS PRODUCT NEEDS HELP W THE INSTALLING AND THE TECH SUPPORT!ALTHOUGH THEY ARE NICE, THEY USE PC LINGO!THIS MADE IT ALL THE MORE FRUSTRATING!THIS PRODUCT STATES EASY TO INSTALL.FIRST PC I WAS ON THE PHONE FOR 2 HRS. AFTER THE INSTALLING ETC..IT WORKED FINE.
SECOND COMPUTER, ON THE PHONE 1ST TIME ON HOLD FOR 1/2 -NO LIE- THEN, I HAD SOMEONE W A VERY HEAVY ACCENT. TALKING ME THREW FOR AN 1HR. AT THE END, I STILL HAD NO INTERNET, AND HAD TO CALL BACK, OR WAIT ON PHONE. ANOTHER 28 MINS , HAD A DIFFERENT PERSON, SAME ISSUE NOT RESOLVED. FINALLY HAD THE 'EXPERT' , VERY NICE MIND YOU, TELL ME WHAT I ASKED IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE ROUTER IS DEFECTIVE, AND THEY WOULD SEND ANOTHER ONE FOR ME. GREAT, BUT I WAS SO UPSET AND DISGUSTED, IT BLEW A WHOLE AFTERNOON. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING FOR SOMEONE WHO IS NOT AS COMPUTER LITERATE AS THOSE PEOPLE ON THE PHONE. AND THEN WHEN YOU CANT UNDERSTAND THEM... WELL
I VOW I WILL BUY GOOD OL AMERICANA , BUT THEY DONT MAKE IT!
BOTTOM LINE , IT WORKED FINE ONCE IT WAS INSTALLED. I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE NEXT ONE IN THE MAIL. HOPEFULLY, WILL FOLLOW UP ON THIS. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 nice router Tuesday, August 19, 2008 A Customer from Simpsonville, SC
Got the router and reflashed it in minutes. Took me a little while to do it since it was the first time I had reflashed the firmware on this product. Went very smooth and even quicker on my existing router. I would buy it again if/when I need a new router. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great candidate for DD-WRT Tuesday, August 05, 2008 A Customer from Turlock, California
I bought this unit because I needed a DD-WRT-capable router that wasn't crippled by low RAM and flash memory. It was my second choice; my first would have been a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 for its smaller form factor and great reception, but Buffalo still can't sell them in the U.S. as of this writing. Anyway, the Linksys WRT54GL performs fine under DD-WRT. I just had a bit of trouble loading DD-WRT on it. If you choose to install DD-WRT, make sure you follow the directions! (Flash the Mini edition first, then the Standard or other edition of your choice.) I can't speak for the Linksys firmware, but overall, this is a great product and one which I would buy again (at least until Buffalo can sell 802.11g gear in the U.S. again). Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 I got Tomatos on mine Saturday, August 02, 2008 A Customer from Stafford, VA
I installed the Tomato Firmware, on mine. Tomato works great. Unlike dd-wrt, I could understand the UI. I have never had a problem with my router. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Happy with Purchase Friday, July 11, 2008 SEC from Pennsauken, NJ
Quick delivery from Buy.com. Took 30 minutes to get it up and running. Good performance throughout my medium sized home - much improved over my original wireless setup. No interruptions in service from my cable modem. I didn't think the highest speed router (n)was worth the potential problems. This is a mature product. Its a little larger in size than I thought it might be. I don't plan to use the router administration features but I have looked at them. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Great with dd-wrt Tuesday, June 03, 2008 A Customer from Wausau, WI
If you plan to install alternate Linux firmware then you are the type who will just throw the included CD away. The Linksys brand (WRT54G<b>L</b> only) has an easier dd-wrt install (simple web-based install) than other brands I've used.
<br><br>
Linux gives it features usually only available in high-end models costing hundreds of dollars. For example use dd-wrt to set up a mesh network with a few of these and cover a LARGE area with WiFi. Or install Asterisk on OpenWRT to turn it into a phone system. Many other possibilities if you are technically oriented. These extra features make this model a good buy over the cheaper ones.
<br><br>
If your ISP supports it, the router will configure itself automatically. If not, be prepared to talk to their tech support or find the paper they sent you with all the info on it. You'll have to actually look at the instructions and type some stuff in. Welcome to the world of networking.
<br><br>
If you are the type who doesn't know what an IP address is and just wants to connect more than one computer to the Internet and wants to use wireless, then you probably don't need dd-wrt, will never use the extra features, and can save some $. Buy one of the other WRT54G... models instead. They likely can't run Linux or dd-wrt, but that's not what you are after anyhow, is it? Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Router Monday, June 02, 2008 Robert from Fort Worth TX

IF YOU 'KIND OF KNOW COMPUTERS' , RARELY, DOWNLOAD, UPLOAD PROGRAMS OR WHAT EVER ITS CALLED.. THIS REVIEW IS FOR YOU!
I AM A SOMEWHAT KNOWLEDGEABLE PERSON ABOUT COMPUTERS, BUT I REALLY DO NOT KNOW THE LINGO .. DID NOT KNOW WHAT A ROUTER WAS,, STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT LINUX IS.. EVEN THOUGH I TRIED TO LOOK IT UP.. SO HERE WE GO
BUY.COM SEEMS TO HAVE THE BEST PRICE FOR WHAT WE WERE BUYING. I WENT TO OTHER STORES TO TRY! TO FIGURE OUT EXACTLY WHAT WE NEEDED. I WANTED TO HOOK UP 2 DIFFERENT LAPTOPS TO OUR DESK TOPAND HAVE ALL 3 ON LINE AT THE SAME TIME-W/OUT HAVING TO PURCHASE ANOTHER LINE FROM THE DSL COMPANY. OK.. THEREFORE 'ROUTER' IS THE PRODUCT THAT DOES THIS! YEAH!
OK, I WANTED TO DO THIS MYSELF.. FOR ALL YOU VIDEO REVIEWERS , IT WOULD BE NICE TO TALK 'REGULAR TALK', FOR US,WELL, LESS THAN KNOWLEDGEABLE.WHEN YOU ARE EXPLAINING... OK.. SO WE
BOUGHT THIS ANYWAY.. AND I PUT IN CD, STARTED SETTING UP THE PROGRAM AND BAMM!.. YOU HAVE TO KNOW 'CODES' FROM WHEN YOU SET UP DSL, ETC. .. SO THOSE OUT THERE THAT NEVER WRITE THINGS LIKE THIS DOWN.. NO NO NO!
I EVENTUALLY HAD TO CALL SUPPORT, OVERSEAS..AT LEAST THE GIRL I HAD, SPOKE UNDERSTANDABLE ENGLISH.
AFTER ABOUT 1 1/2 HRS, WE FIGURED IT OUT.. THIS WAS THE PART I DIDNT LIKE.
PRODUCT STATES , PUSH BUTTON AND IT SETS ITSELF UP..
NOT QUITE TRUE..
NON THE LESS , ITS NOW WORKING AND MY HUBBY IS HAPPY. AND IT WAS A GREAT PRICE! MAYBE ILL LEARN WHAT LINUX IS AFTER ALL!
HOPE THIS HELPS.
FOR THOSE PARENTS OUT THERE OF KIDS THAT ARE TELLING YOU THEY CAN DO IT BY THEMSELVES, THEY PROBABLY CAN! IF NOT, YOU CAN GET ON THE PHONE W SUPPORT.

5 of 5 WRT54GL Linksys Router Monday, March 24, 2008 A Customer from Chicago, Illinois
Bought the WRT54GL specifically to flash with DD-WRT open source firmware. The router is completely stable and doing what I want it to do. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 buy this if you are voip user Sunday, February 24, 2008 A Customer from Cary, NC
This router can be flashed with some open source firmware like Tomato, which has a tons of useful features such as security, QoS and Traffic Engineering. If you are VOIP user, you can configure this such that your phone call will have some reserved bandwidth. This will prevent your computer downloading/gaming from interfering with your phone call. Use Google checkout or apply a buy.com visa you would only pay about $30. A great value for a router with rich features! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 you need to install 3rd party firmware Sunday, February 17, 2008 Michal from Bangor, ME
Original firmware in this router is pretty useless, for example you can't set port forwarding from one port to another port. Good news is, you can flash some open source linux firmware like DD-WRT and it works fine, you just need to configure it after, because it is very slow in default configuration. 5 of 5 WRT54GL Tuesday, February 12, 2008 elzy616 from Bartlesville, OK
This is an incredible wireless device. This does everything you could hope for as Open source download friendly hardware. I used the dd-wrt download, and it worked fine. It still has detachable antennas. I'm surprised the GL is not offered more widely. But thankfully buy.com has them at a great price, with excellent service and shipping. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Capable of 3rd party Linux Router code Friday, February 01, 2008 JB from Minneapolis, MN
I bought this "L" version of the WRT54G so that I could flash it with the open source Linux based router software from www.dd-wrt.com. It worked great! I like the flexibility and customization it offers. The WRT54GL has more flash memory that their standard WRT54G, so it can handle the additional functions that 3rd party software provides. I bought two of these to use as a wireless bridge using dd-wrt. For in-depth info on all Linksys routers, see www.linksysinfo.org. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The Absolute Best Friday, December 14, 2007 Sun from Florida
This thing really is IT. Flexible to whatever needs I have, I am very satisfied with them. I have recommended WRT54GL units MANY times to all of my clients and associates...they are rock solid.
One thing...I avoid using the included CD setup, its much easier to connect to the http interface on port 80 to set this little guy up. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great but ... Monday, December 10, 2007 bp001 from Rochester, NY
I've been using this router for a couple of weeks and so far it has performed flawlessly. The only complaint is during initial setup, it failed the setup routine on the supplied CD-ROM. I hunted around on the web to find tips on how to get the unit functioning properly. Since then, no problems at all. A minor rub is the web-based interface you use to change router settings is not the most intuitive - could be better. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Alternate Firmware Compatible Tuesday, December 04, 2007 A Customer from Merritt Island, FL
Bought this specifically to flash alternate firmware, specifically, tomato. Works like a charm. Only problem is that my Vista laptop gets confused about the address its supposed to have every once in a while. My XP laptop has no issues so I'm blaming it on crud Vista. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Without a Glitch Monday, December 03, 2007 Kiet from Gilbert, AZ
Unlike the earlier Linksys router, this one worked 1st time right away and without any glitch. Didn't encounter any of the set up issues mentioned. Highly recommended for ease of usage and value. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 LINUX replacement for older WRT54G Friday, November 30, 2007 Nik from Escondido, CA
My old Linksys wireless router failed, and I replaced it with the WRT54GL, based on the recommendations that I could best incorporate "DD-WRT" firmware and utilize some of the capabilities (including increasing the range) of the Linksys router that were unavailable with the Linksys firmware. I am learning the DD-WRT interface and so far it's great.
The Linksys WRT54G is a good router, although had the wireless N spec been finalized, I would have upgraded to a Linksys N router. My understanding is that the current N standard (not yet official) suffers in performance and that purchasers should "buy again" when the official N standard is complete.
The WRT54GL has extra memory that some of the other WRT54G models don't, which is why the DD-WRT folks recommend it for their firmware.
Buy this if you decide to use the DD-WRT firmware and you like Linksys. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Got it quick and it worked great. Sunday, September 30, 2007 A Customer from Leonard, Mi.
Buy.com gets you the product quick! I received within 2 days of placing the order. I was a little concerned from reading the other reviews on using the setup disk. In the end I decided to use it and everything worked out great. I was up and running in no time. I use my laptop anywhere in the house now, which is great when my wife kicks me downstairs to watch the football game!!
The only negative was that it said free shipping and I was charged for it. I have a question in to Customer Service on that now. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Solid router on Linux Tuesday, August 21, 2007 A Customer from Sterling Heights, MI
Very good router. Can load DD-WRT and provide features found on more expensive routers. It's pretty fast as it is, although I have heard it can be overclocked. I previously had Zyxel P-334W which kept disconnecting with no matter what version of firmware on all devices I connected to it. WRT54GL works great, and I had only one disconnection so far (I am using it for a week now), which is great. Anyway, I am very satisfied with it. The installation was easy, and I didn't really need the Setup CD. Was this review helpful? Click here to see all 66 reviews
