| | | The Linksys Wireless-G Access Point lets you connect Wireless-G (802.11g) or Wireless-B (802.11b) devices to your wired network so you can add PCs to the network with no cabling hassle. Create a "wireless bubble" in that hard-to-wire home or office space, and save the time, hassle, and expense of running cables. Plus, notebook PCs can travel around your home or office and stay connected wherever they go. Since both standards are built in, you can protect your investment in existing Wireless-B infrastructure, and migrate your network devices to the new screaming fast Wireless-G standard as your needs grow.
You can also use the Wireless-G Access Point as a kind of "cable-less cable" to connect remote areas together. Maybe Shipping is all the way across the warehouse from Receiving. Or maybe you want to set up a home office in your detached garage. With one Wireless-G Access Point in the garage and another one in the house, you're connected at up to 54Mbps with no cable to run.
The new push button setup feature makes it easy to configure your wireless devices. Just push the button on the Access Point and on your other SecureEasySetup-enabled wireless device to automatically create an encryption-secured wireless connection. Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) protects your data and privacy with up to 128-bit industrial-strength encryption. You can use the MAC Address filter to decide exactly who has access to your wireless network. And for the ultimate in wireless protection, the Wireless-G Access Point comes with built-in access to the Linksys Wireless Guard service (free trial included), which gives small businesses the security of WPA-RADIUS, without the hassle of building an authentication server. Access Point configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility.
The Linksys Wireless-G Access Point is the best way to add wireless capability to your existing home or small office network.

5 of 5 Great price, decent product Sunday, January 27, 2008 Gerard from Middleton. NJ
Had the Linksys WAP 11b with a no longer produced booster. The Wap 11b kept dying and needed to be reset often, so i decided to upgrade to the WAP 54G, unfortunetely i coud not use the booster with it. i noticed that although the speed increased, the range and connection strenght did not. The set up was very easy. was up and running within 5 minutes of receiving the unit, including security set up. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy Access Sunday, December 23, 2007 terry.pierson@gmail.com from Lewisville, Texas
I found the unit difficult to connect and set-up. After a couple of days of fumbling through the software and linksys website I was finally able to establish connectivity on my network. There are many options for security which is extremely important and easy to use. Linksys needs to spend more time in their set up documentation from a non technical standpoint since most of their items assume people know more about computers than they actually do. Overall, peformance has been excellent and no issues with low or disconnecting signal strength. Well worth the money and time I spent setting up. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Linksys Wireless G Wednesday, September 26, 2007 A Customer from Milton, MA
The setup was straight forward; especially when customizing the device. was done in about 15 minutes Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great... once you get it working Wednesday, September 26, 2007 A Customer from Charlotte, NC
I set this up as a wireless repeater to improve the coverage of my wireless network. First attempt was with a Netgear Router. No success. I purchased a Linksys router and was eventually (after a lengthy Linksys Tech Support Chat Session) able to establish a connection. I was never able to get the simple one-touch configuration button to work for me. Turns out that the security level I set during configuration, WPA2, was not supported. When security was changed to WEP, I was able to establish a connection to the WAP54G. Coverage is great now and I am happy with the final result. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Decent AP Monday, May 28, 2007 A Customer from Villa Park, IL
Neither the options nor performance with this AP are stellar for the price, but it works well for what it does and I haven't had any issues with it, yet. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Access point defies easy access Sunday, February 18, 2007 A Customer from new york, n.y.
A Linksys support technician installed the access point. So far it has increased the strength of the signal from low to excellent. Once installed all six of my Linksys products work very well. Was this review helpful?

Have a linksys router for Vonage and would have cost twice as much to get their wireless router. Plugged into router, followed simple instructions on CD, and had wireless internet running in 5-10 minutes. Couldn't be easier. Was this review helpful?

This was my first try with wireless, so I was a little frustrated when the installation CD that came with the Access Point was blank. I called customer service, and the fine young lady in India (I believe) talked me through the manual set-up. Didn't tell me to switch my CPU settings back to Auto Detect when I plugged into my wired hub, so it took a 2nd call. Very happy with the product, and even with the hassle, still easy to install. Stumbled a bit on setting up the WAP 128 bit encryption, but got it working. I suspect it may have to do with changes in Windows XP default settings... anyway once set up, it has been functioning flawlessly. 54 MPS in the basement, 1st floor, 2nd floor, and attic. I haven't taken the laptop out into the woods yet ... but who knows? Was this review helpful?

Wasn't a bad price at the time I bought it, and it works, so I don't have any complaints. Was this review helpful?
2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 A very impressive WAP with great range Thursday, August 04, 2005 Bret B from Cincinnati, OH
I purchased this WAP for my home to replace a version 1 Netgear WG602 that lacked WPA encryption technology. This WAP has much greater range, faster negotiated connection time and very fast transfer of encrypted data.
I work in the IT field and would recommend this WAP over several other more expensive Cisco units. It offers comparable performance and features at a fraction of the cost.
I have since purchased a booster (see http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10381453&loc=101&hdwt=0&sp=1 ) and with an adapter hooked it up to my WAP54G and it tripled the wireless range. Was this review helpful?

I needed to bridge two buildings that were over 400 feet apart. Not only does the WAP54G bridge the distance, but in repeater mode, it gives my remote location both wired AND wireless access to the main network! Was this review helpful?
