Linksys G Wireless-G WET54G Wireless Bridge - Wi-Fi - IEEE 802.11b/g - 54Mbps - Wireless Bridge

This thing is quick to set up (even with wireless security keys) and works as it should. I have used it on an XBOX 360 and a network printer, at different times of course. Moving from one device to the other, all you have to do is plug it in and in a few seconds it is up and running and everything connected to it works like it was attached directly to the router! I would definitely recommend this!

I needed to install a NAS Raid box in the basement. The problem however is that there is no easy way to route cat 6 cable - my preferred solution - from the network switch to the NAS box situated one floor and 75 feet from the switch. Since I already have a Linksys 802.11g network I decided to look for a Linksys wireless solution. The NAS is not an intelligent device on the network side so I needed a bridge device that turns the NAS ethernet port essentially into a wireless client, and that's exactly what the WET54G does. Configuration was a snap and it was up and running in 10 minutes. It can be managed remotely using the built-in web management interface. The box itself is very small. It can sit on a flat surface using the supplied snap-on stands, or it can be wall-mounted using the included screws and anchors. Performance is on par with 802.11g expectations, which means that if you need to serve video or do gigabyte backups then you probably need to look beyond 802.11g. Reliability and stability so far have been excellent. The price is a bit high but with Linksys I've never had to worry about functionality: Their stuff works.

Even though Linksys is merely a division of Cisco, and therefore a little pricey, their products work perfectly right out of the box. I've tried to save money on other brands of wireless adapters, access points, and routers, but I have always had to replace them with Linksys products. So I save money by just opting for Linksys from the outset. As usual, Buy.com shipped this item immediately (no expedited shipment options selected), and it was in my hands in 2 or 3 days. What's not to like here?

I bought this unit to hook up a Directv Satellite Receiver-DVR to the internet in order to use a new video On Demand feature. Setting up the Access point was a snap and the physical hook-up was totally painless. The unit found my network immediately and began downloading the content to the DVR's Hard Drive in a couple of minutes. So far no problems. This product does its job.

It's weird that so many folks are claiming that this unit is easy to setup. I bought one yesterday and it was VERY difficult to setup. The software that came in the box to help you do some initial configurations, like setting the IP address, did not work. I tried it on 3 different PCs, two with disabled firewalls and one with absolutely no firewall software installed, and the software could not see the WET54G. Luckily, I found a mention somewhere on the Internet that the default IP address is 192.168.1.226. That helped me get past the first part.<BR> <BR> Then I could not log into the unit. The Linksys support site claims that the user name is blank and the default password is "admin". It turns out that both the username and the default password are "admin". A lucky guess got me past that point.<BR> <BR> Then the bridge would not connect to my access point, even when they were right next to each other. It keep setting the security settings to WPA with Radius; my access point was setup for WEP, no Radius. Every time I changed the setting, the WET54G would change it back. I finally noticed that the firmware was version 1.08....the very oldest firmware out there. I upgraded to the latest firmware and after that it followed my instructions for the security settings and I was able to connect.<BR> <BR> I won't comment about it's stability because I only started using it last night, but I thought I would share my experience to help anyone else out. So far the connection keeps going up and down, but I won't judge the unit until I have more time to look at it tonight. It does have SNMP v1 and v2 built-in, which I will use for monitoring the traffic and troubleshooting, so that is nice.

I was really looking forward to installing a WiFi bridge on the network... My first disappointment was on the setup procedure where lots of options are grayed out or set back to default when you hit save(like among other forcing G only band). Then the first time I used the web configuration interface I had to guess the user name as is says in the manual there is none (like many other Linksys products) but actually you'll be interested to know it is "admin" and... you cannot change it! All in all I had it work and was happy with it for few months until it started to give me very lousy connection (with nothing changed on the wireless side of the network) I now observe up to 20 % data loss on IP transmission tests! and can barely connect to a web site while all my wireless devices on the network perform like a charm. I run Netstumbler analysis to confirm there are not possible interferences with new network in the neighborhood and even tried other channels in vain. I am forced to conclude than one more time Linksys is not delivering the type of products we came to expect from them few years ago. I'll have to find another brand for cost efficient wireless devices. This company is delivering unreliable products nowadays.

I have been resetting this silly thing one to six times a day. Sometimes it's smart enough to flash its "Wireless-G" light when it needs resetting, but it isn't smart enough to automatically reset. Switching channels helped some, but not entirely. I'm using it as a wireless bridge, with a Linksys WRT54GS router, and a couple directional antennae. Throughput is very low. After I got it, I found the CNet Review, now four years old (hint: get something more recent), but still accurate. It says, "Cons:...below average throughput." Google CNet Reviews, WRT54G. My first one died after a year. Linksys sent me another. 3 year warranty is a plus. If you are using it ethernetted to a Mac, wireless to a router, you should know your net stuff or have an net admin buddy, 'cuz the Linksys documentation won't help much. I'm no expert, but, Basic setup: DHCP is what the router needs to know, so in OSX's System Prefernces/Network, don't pick the "Automatic DHCP" for the bridge. Use "Manually," with the router's IP address in the "DNS Servers" box. Try IP Address: 192.168.1.49, if hooking to a Linksys Router (The third number in some routers IP address is a 2, and the third number in the bridge IP address has to be the same), and Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 So all those glowing reviews: Were they by Linksys employees?

This unit is easy to set up, especially if you have some networking knowledge. Mine is more complex than most, because I change the default settings (most routers default to 192.168.1.1, I change that)- it was still set up and working in under 15 minutes. Good signal strength and thruput and easy to manage remotely.

The unit works except it broadcasts all over my home network. With the proper router you can block these broadcasts from the internet.

I received version 3 of this bridge. The first thing I did was upgrade the firmware to version 2.07 (the latest version on the support site). After the upgrade nothing could be configured. The router kept freezing. After I performed a hard reset (30 seconds) and tried to configure it, it freezes again. Buy.com sent me a new one. Buy.com's customer service is great! Version 3 hardware comes with the following firmware: v1.08, Oct 17, 2005. Try configuring it first. If it works, do not upgrade! The Linksys web site does not have older versions of firmware available for download, therefore you can not roll back. My bridge is now working fine to connect my Linksys router to my main wireless Internet router. NOTE: After a period of inactivity, it takes a few seconds for the connection to come back when you try accessing a web site.

Not many choices out there, but this Linksys unit does exactly what I need it to do....bridge a wireless network to a remote desktop computer via Ethernet. Although I haven't yet plugged in a router, I plan to. It sets up quickly and easily, and doesn't drop out. Configuration is pretty straightforward.

I just bought my 4th WET54G Bridge and they seem to work well. Setup is relatively easy, IF you know something about networking. Otherwise, it could be a little tricky setting up the initial IP address, if it does not automatically connect to your router with their setup CD. Linksys basic tech supp (located overseas) is as good as their competition's, not very good. However, if you can contact their level 2, or higher, tech supp in the USA you should not be disappointed.

Easy setup, works without issue. Did not even have to update firmware. I have used it to connect to a mediagate mg-35 media player. Works fine for streaming movies over the wireless lan.

I have the older wireless-B product, so I thought I would give this one a go. It was just as easy to configure as the older model and the signal quality and speed is awsome. I have it at least 150 feet away, through 4 walls and the signal quality is still high. Great product!!

I needed to connect two separate LAN's both which had there own Wireless Access Points (WAP). My option was to use a wireless bridge or a very long crossover patch cable. Installation of the WET54G was a breeze. Setup and configuration very smooth. I also added an high gain antenna (which I previously aquired). The strength and through-put of this bridge is incredible. I did a quick download test using it to supply my entire second LAN with internet access and was downloading over 4.4 Mbps. I am very satisfied and would recommend this product to anyone needing to bridge two LAN's with one that has a WAP.

I used the bridge to connect a Mac to a 802.11g network. This works great. Very easy, and super compatible. The reception is so good, I returned the USB (WUSB54GS) unit that was connected to a Dell and got another bridge. In a 100 year old house, with wood and plaster walls, this bridge connects with very high signal strength, from the router in the basement to the third floor.
