Linksys Network adapter - Wireless-G PCI Card

I was truly surprised how fast I received my Linksys wireless-G PCI adapter from Buy.com. This card installed quickly and most importantly made my life easier. I was able to move my desktop PC into the lower level of my home without drilling holes into anything to run cables. The connection speed was unchanged. I am very happy with both buy.com and Linksys.

Installed (without the CD) on a XP-machine, and has a strong signal on laptops using Windows XP, Windows Vista and Ubuntu 8.10. I think it works better without installing with the Linksys CD. The range is also better than expected.

Now that I have it working I like this card and it performs well, but I spent a lot of time on the phone with Linksys tech support and I'm pretty technically savvy, just not a network guy. Everyone's situation is different...Different operating systems, anti-virus software, etc. You may have no hassles, but this was my experience.

I am extremely disappointed with Linksys. There is nothing on any of the literature regarding this adapter that states that it will not work under Windows XP 64-bit. In fact, the specifications are: Windows Vista and Windows XP service pack 1 or later. There are no drivers available for XP 64-bit and no ETA as to when there will be. I spent hours trying to install this in a new system, with tech support on the phone and live chat. They both walked me through the same processes I had already done and neither asked at the outset what operating system I am using. The final straw was when they informed me that the only Linksys adapters that are available for XP 64-bit are USB. There are none in PCI. Simply not acceptable. I have been a loyal Linksys customer for at least 10 years. Now I will turn my attention to D-Link.

I had used only hardwire connection for my home network but since the move to a greater house a few months ago, I seriously had to consider wireless connection if I were not to make a lot of holes to the house. I originally had a wireless router with speedboost technology from Linksys and wanted to make use of it, so I ordered this card. After installation of drivers, I put in the card to one of the PC and voila! The network was detected instantly with signal bars full. Although some of recent Linksys products are less than recommendable, many products are still of solid quality. I can definitely recommend this product to anyone.

My husband is a computer geek. I am a geek-by-marriage, quickly becoming acclimated to his nerdy lifestyle. :) After getting rid of dial-up a few years ago in favor of DSL (or whatever), I no longer had the intarnetz on my home office computer (he still had access on his office computer). For a while it was no big, but I finally got tired of not having it, and our daughter is getting older and needs it for school, so we bit the bullet and got a router and adapter. He installed the router just fine and it recognized the Wii, but after puting the adapter into my 'puter, the router couldn't find it. He went back and forth between offices for hours. Once the router found the adapter (henceforth called RTR and ADP cuz I'm lazy), my computer said that it could find the RTR but couldn't access the internet. We chatted at Linksys with Habib (I swear that was his name, I'm not being mean!), we had no luck and gave up for the night. The next day, hubby called Habib Tech Support and was basically told that my computer was too far away from the intarnetz! Oh, dear lord. ! Well, while hubby was messing around on my computer anyway, he decided to get rid of some old programs that I never use, or were installed a long time ago. He got rid of McAfee and rebooted the 'puter (as told to do), and when the 'puter booted back up, DING! We found the intarnetz! I have seen in other reviews how sometimes programs can interfere, so I guess that's what this was doing. So, while things aren't PERFECT with the ADR (we live in a concrete block home), it is great! Even if the box says that the ADR can't connect to the internet, it can. So if you are having that probelm, just try to open something anyway. You may get lucky. If we can't open the internetz and we've tried a handful of times, I just restart the puter. Nothing I do is so important that this is a hssle--since the puter and my laundry room share a space, I am usually on the puter and folding towels at the same time... For the price and the (mostly) ease of use, I am very happy with my purchase. I have my intarnetz back and I can shop at home or chat on the net now in my underpants :) .

Replaced the comparable Speedbooster model with this adapter. Stronger signal and less disconnects with the basic card. Easy to install and virtually no setup.

This Linksys wireless PCI wireless G card is like all previous Linksys products that I have used: rock solid reliability, easy to install, and excellent performance. I highly recommend this product!

Another fine product by Linksys! Easy installation (Windows XP) no driver issues, great range, fast data transfer. All the things I was looking for. Of course, all my network hardware is Linksys, router, switch, NIC cards, and wireless cards. My Dell laptop is the only exception and there are no issues there either. I'm not usually brand loyal, but I am here!

I have three working in my house. This one works just as well as the other ones. Easy set up and works very well. Seems to me the connectivity and through put are as good or better than the Speedbooster model. I have both and this one actually works better than the Speed booster wireless card. Although I do have a speed booster router. It works very well with Windows XP.

I thought i was buying a card that would work with b43 and bcm43xx linux drivers. however, I got the 4.1 version which is RaLink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI. The current ralink rt61 userland driver works but you can't put this card into promiscuous mode. I couldn't get the current rt2x00 driver to compile on a recent kernel. the ralink driver should be found in most linux repos. for linux users, there are other chipsets with better drivers than this card.

Tried other less expensive wireless equipment. Updated firmware, proper settings and still not as consistent and reliable as my linksys equipment.

This wireless card is extremely well built and reliable as all other Linksys products. The manufacture states that it will run on Win 98SE and they are correct but don't rely on the easy auto setup. I had to install this card manually in order for it to work and after that it has been a solid performer with no drop-outs or performance issues.

It enabled me to connect into a wireless system smoothly and without incident. I would recommend this particular product among the many available because it is truly the best one on the market for what it does. Friends that were using similar units from other makers have switched to THIS product to achieve the same end result that I have. I think that says it all.

Great wireless card, my router is 2 stories down, and I still have a full signal strength. I have recently installed 2 of these adapters on different PCs and I learned a few things along the way. Decide which software you want to run, windows zero or linksys. If you want to use windows zero do not run the linksys cd first, install the card and let windows prompt you for the driver. If you want to use the linksys software, then install the software, and then the wireless card. If you want to use windows zero, and install the cd first, the linksys software will automatically load, and you will need to disenable it. Even after it is disenabled it will load on your system, and appear in the icon tray. Also if you have other PCs connected via wireless to a linksys router and plan to use WEP or WPA (which you should - WPA is the most secure) do not use the 1 touch method to attach as it will screw up the wireless connection for all previously connected computers. I wish the linksys documentation that came with the card had covered this.

Tried to install on a Vista machine as per the Quick Start Guide. No joy. Searched around online and discovered that the best thing to do was: 1. install the card 2. run Windows Update 3. it works

As always, Linksys great quality and performance. Be sure and get latest drivers and such, as with any hardware. Linksys support is the typical outsourced untrained people... so definitely avoid them.

I actually installed this in my tower, and then when I read the instruction on the Installation CD Case, it told me to install the software "before" installing the card. Took the card back out, installed the software, put the card back in, and it all worked perfectly. Very nice.

I bought this PCI card along with the WRT54G Wireless-G router and am very happy with them. I just followed the instructions provided and the card was communicating with the router in no time. My desktop is about 40 feet away from the router and I never get below 65% signal strength and it never falls below 30 Mbps throughput (it's usually about 50 Mbps). The only problem I have is that the status checking software tells me the PCI card CAN find the router, but CAN'T find the internet. This is obviously a false error, since my web browser (and other internet apps like ftp) work fine. So, I guess it's not a real problem, but I figured I should mention it in a review. Overall I think this product works really well and is a great value.

Was very easy to install and works very well...the only problem I have had, however, is that whenever the phone rings in my house I lose signal...but it usually re-connects right away. Overall I am very satisfied.

I have setup and configured countless numbers of these wireless cards for many different people on different brands and speeds of computers. Some were Win98, some XP and they all worked flawlessly. Out of 20+ install the only problem I experienced was that one unit was shipped with a faulty antenna which Linksys replaced. Works really well especially with Linksys routers.

I have managed to get the Linksys WMP54G to work with Windows Me and Windows 2000 on a PC based on a 512Mb MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR motherboard (very recent MoBo). I haven't been able to get it to work on "older" PCs (e.g. 64Mb 200MHz Dell or 384Mb TMC T15VGA with 450MHz AMD K6/III) with any OS. I haven't been able to get it to work with Windows 98SE on any PC at all. Believe me - I have tried. The Linksys Tech support facilities (on-line, 'phone and email) are "sub-optimal".

i have had this card for months and one day it stopped working, i called linksys and they couldn't help me at all. but then i remember around the time it stopped working i install a windows update, so i went back and deleted that update. I then restarted the computer and that was it. It worked again.. The name of the xp hotfix was "Update for Microsoft Windows XP (KB826942)" . I hope this helps.

Three different cards, three different computers. Utility interface for XP is non-standard and cumbersome, as well as for Windows 2000. Could never get the card(s) to succesfully connect to the Internet using wireless on all three machines. Spent countless hours with tech support who were clueless and only suggested reinstalling drivers and repeatedly taking the hardware out, rebooting, and putting back in (?) Never did get any of these to work... tore out, ran cat 5 and now everything is hardwired and working in less than 2 minutes (not counting running the wire). Oh BTW, had "Good" signal strength, no WEP enabled or something.. VERY simple install. Looks like lack of proper beta testing really screwed me over.

Just bought a LinkSys WMP54G PCI card and its performance, or lack there of, has surprised me. The amount of packet loss is incredible and my high speed internet has been brought down to its knees with this card. I bought two WMP54G cards for two different computers running windows XP. Both machines will not recognize the WRT54G router. I spent 2 weeks working on the problem and about 8 hours on the phone with Linksys tech support. Now my local computer shop will not take the hardware back. Save yourself a extreme headache and stay away!

I bought this card for my Windows XP Pro machine. I am also using a Linksys WRT54G Wireless router. The computer dectected the card right away and it was installed without any problems. But after this the card would have extreme difficulty maintaining a link with the router. The connection would drop and pick up on and off even with a strong signal. I tried the card in my Windows 98 machine and it works fine with a strong connection that never drops. Both machines are about 50 feet from the router behind a wall. I used the D-Link DWL-G520 with no problems on my Windows XP machine. I would not recommend this item for Windows XP users considering it did not work for me at all.

This system is very EASY to use. I have configured many of these setups for other people and decided to get it after seeing how well they worked. It is easy to setup and works very well. The only limitation is the distance that it can cover is greatly affected by obstacles (like most wireless devices) but it still works great.

Installation was a snap. Set up was a snap. I've had zero problems. I'm running this on XP and perhaps that is why, but I'm mostly a Macintosh user (the Mac is connected to the Router!) yet still from opening the computer, to installation, to the connection speed I get (it screams) I'm very very impressed. Never imagined it would be this easy.

I got the Linksys Wireless G router and PCI card together. First I tried to install it under Win2K on a test system and it wouldn't connect with all the settings verified. Reinstalled Win2K again (this was a test machine): LAN connection but no Internet. 3rd time's the charm, however you have to wait 3 minutes for internet connectivity while the network connects instantly. Scenario 2: Windows XP. Installed easy, worked great. Unplugged the computer and moved it closer to the router and the card stopped functioning. Only thing that would get the card working again was an OS reinstallation. I had to do this 3 times so far (Win2K AND WinXP) and it's stopped working again. It's a good combo as long as you never unplug the machine or shut it down.

I wanted access to the interent from a portable PC anywhere in my house. Installation was a snap, and the performance is just as good as my hard wired cable modem for Web browsing. Even file transfers are quick enough to suit me. It's one of the best PC related purchase I've made in quite a while.

I just got this product with the Linksys Wireless G router to replace a 50 foot ethernet cable running along the outside of my house to the second floor. The card works great and reguarly reads over 20mbps which, basically, for internet browsing, is indistinguisable from the wired connection.

I bought this and the router a few days ago to set up a small office. Everything works great, I am running Windows XP so that may be why it was so easy to install. Just pop in the cd, and XP walks you through the setup. I have good signal strength and speed, even through a few walls. Good buy.
