5 of 5 Great Stable Performance Sunday, January 27, 2008 Mech Engr from Baxter, TN
The cable modem was easy to set up and has performed flawlessly. It has been very stable (only had to reset it once due to a cable company glitch) and works very well with my Linksys "54" router. Although I would not consider the price "cheap", I was very pleased with the value. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Cable Modem Sunday, August 05, 2007 A Customer from Virginia Beach, VA
This modem replaced a five year old motorola that failed with help from our retriever. The dog sleeps under our computer desk and sheds like you read about which caused hair to infiltrate the old modem. So far the Linksys has performed well and its designed should minimize hair intrusion and damage. Replacing the modem was quite simple with the only extra step being notification of the ISP of the new modem and its model & serial numbers. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Worth it Wednesday, June 13, 2007 A Customer from Staunton, VA
If you have to rent a box, this is a good way to save money and possibily increase your upload/download speeds as the company's boxes are usually capped at a certain speed. For example, our network rated at 22 mb download compared to the 6 mb the company said we should have. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great modem Monday, May 14, 2007 A Customer from Jax,FL
It's really good product and it's easy setup. The only thing is to call your Cable/DSL company to change MAC address.

After upgrading my Cox HSI to premimum service, I needed to upgrade my cable modem for the higher speed, and the Cox Tech recommended the Linksys BEFCMU10. The install took less the 20 minutes, out of the box, connect, call Cox, just a mac address change, link up with the cable and gone...piece of cake. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great even with Win98! Thursday, February 08, 2007 Charlie from Las Vegas, Nevada
I installed this modem about a month ago, and so far it is working great! Installation of the modem itself was a breeze. I have an old machine running Win98 that was on a dial-up before, and I installed an ethernet card for better performance for cable over USB. Instructions included with it won't tell you how to re-configure your network settings and browser to talk thru the ethernet port though, but then again, that is not Linksys's problem. Once that was done by me and the MAC address was given to Cox cable, it was up and running. Integrates very well with Linksys router also, they stack nicely for a clean appearance. Works flawlessly with Comcast in NJ!! I highly recommend the investment to avoid those pesky rental fees when you don't own the modem. Do the math--how many months of rental fees would pay for this modem? And after that...the money is in your pocket(or in the pocket of that special child or spouse or former spouse who periodically picks your pocket). Was this review helpful?

This modem is in fact on the list of compatible modems at Comcast. As a VAR I've not only installed it, but serviced it at clients homes who had actually received the modem from Comcast. For it to work with some Comcast customers and not others has little or nothing to do with the modem itself. Barring a defective product, which does happen occasionally, a failed connection is a Comcast or End User issue most likely. Was this review helpful?

Since there are conflicting reports that this cablemodem is compatible with Comcast, I'd like to say that in the Boston area it is in fact compatible, and after testing network throughput I have seen rates as I as 1.9Mbps when testing at www.bandwidthplace.com. So evidently if some folks experience a lack of compatibility, perhaps it is the region they are in, but since this modem is DOCSIS compliant I'm not sure why it would NOT work except user error? 5 of 5 A great product Friday, October 17, 2003 sberto from Coraopolis, PA
My comments are about the BEFCMU10 ver.2 modem. I can't vouch for earlier models. After reading a lot of negative reviews about the Linksys BEFMCU10 modem I've begun to see a pattern. Most of these complaints seem to stem from the ISP and not the modem itself. The thing to keep in mind is that communication and storage speeds can vary greatly depending on the status of the ISP's server. Compatibility is also ISP dependent. I've used two other brands of modems besides the Linksys and I find it to be as good or better than either of them. And it's hard to beat the price. I bought my Linksys for $49.00 after mail-in rebates. Keep three things in mind:
1. Communication and storage speeds depend largely on the capacity of the ISP's server.
2. Check with your ISP before purchasing any modem to be sure that it is approved by them.
3. Wait for the rebates. Was this review helpful?

I've read quite a few reviews that slam this product. After a while I began to see a pattern. It seems as though most negative experiences are actually caused by the ISP and not the modem itself. My problem was getting my ISP to provision this modem in a reasonable amount of time. Even though it was on their approved list, it took 2 weeks and 5 phone calls to finally get someone to move on it. Once I was up and running it worked great. Some critics claim it's slow. I'm currently running at 2.9 Mb/s communication and 430 Kb/s storage speeds. I think it all depends on the capacity of the ISP's server. This modem seems to be able to take whatever the ISP can dish out. I've used two modems of different manufacture in the past and find the Linksys BEFCMU10 Ver. 2 to be as good if not a better product. I can't comment on the older version. Just keep two things in mind: 1) Check with your ISP to make sure they approve the use of this modem before purchasing it.
2) Realize that ISP speed capability can vary significantly depending upon whether or not they keep their servers up to snuff. Was this review helpful?

Great Product!! Easy Installation, it truly was one phone call to COMCAST gave them my MAC # on the back of the modem....and i was surfing the web. No more renting cable modems for me.

After reading reviews from other Comcast customers, that were unable to make a connection, I was a bit hesitant on purchasing the Linksys Modem. I did my homework with Comcast and Linksys tech support and got a green light from both parties. The modem setup and connection was as easy as advertised by Linksys. I had absolutely "No Problem". The modem stacks with my Linksys router and makes a very neat, clean, and tidy appearance. Buy.com was great, as usual. I received the modem within 3 days of the time I ordered it. The modem speed is a little bit faster then the one that Comcast rented to me. Was this review helpful?

I want to purchase this modem, but was concerned when I read in other customer reviews that this cable modem is not approved by Adelphia. I called Adelphia twice and spoke with two different reps, and they both assured me that if a modem is listed on their web site (the LinkSys is) they do support it. Was this review helpful?

I'm a Cox subscriber and the changeover from the old Toshiba rented modem was flawless. No more $15....YES $15 per month rental fee. This modem will pay for itself in less than 6 months!!! The speed seems about the same as the old modem but my kids report ping times have dropped in online gaming. We'll see! I highly recommend this cable modem! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very Easy, Extremely Satisfied Monday, July 08, 2002 Lex from Mesa AZ
When the hardest part is opening the shrink wrap and the second hardest part is holding the phone on your shoulder while you disconnect the ethernet cable from the old (slow, expensive) rental modem - you know you've got a winner. This will pay for itself in 8 months, was very easy to install, and works great! The Cable America Tech said it would take 20 to 40 minutes to sync up on their network. The good news is 5 minutes after power up I was surfing at the speed of HBO. Great job Linksys and Buy.com. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy, Fast, Cheap...Go Get It. Sunday, May 26, 2002 Mark Phillips from Fresno, CA.
It is just as easy as everyone says. One phone call to att.com to give them the MAC and serial number. I didn't even have to disconnect my router (SMC Barricade). The speed went from 1.7 megabits (3COM) to 1.8 with this one (as tested at speedtest.com). Now I can save $10/month rental. Was this review helpful?
