If you need a powered hub, and most periferals do require the addition 5 volts, you will need to purchase a separate 5 volt power supply. Be sure to check the polarity, but most any 5v adapter , like the one you have for any of your mp3 players or such, will work.(just find one that fits) Other than that, this is a good quality hub which for most laptop users. It will give you an additional 3 ports. If your laptop has two ports now, you will have to give up one of these to add the four, so your net gain is only 3. Hope this helps a little. 5 of 5 A necessity fulfilled Monday, October 30, 2006 John Mahon from Oak Ridge, NJ
This 4 port hub is exactlly what I was looking for. The product itself appears to be well made, and does the job it was built for. The price was right and the shipping super fast. Another feather in the cap of BUY.COM Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great value for low price Tuesday, March 07, 2006 Natalie from State College, PA
I liked the price but when I got it and plugged it to my laptop I liked it even more. It's nice and compact. I like the option that you can connect adapter so it doesn't drain your computer's power. However, this is not very useful for a laptop, where you want to have portability.
I tried filling up all the ports and everything works fine. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 As advertised Wednesday, January 26, 2005 gmark from St Louis, MO USA
I bought this hub last year for use w/ my laptop. Performs as advertised, with no external AC. There is a port for external AC, but I haven't found that adapter. I use two jumpdrives and an optical mouse with this device. This hub it is worth it, as long as you only need USB 1.1. Recommended. Was this review helpful?

I purchased two of these compact hubs. One has worked well for me, however, the other is unusable because it does not maintain a connection to my computer.
The short length of cable between the plug and the hub might be part of the cause of this problem, while it makes the item more compact, it is stressed more often when in use. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Needs a power adaptor Saturday, June 12, 2004 Angelo from Stamford, CT
Unit works as advertised but like other comments I read, it does need a power unit. It really should have come with one. Now I have to hunt around for it. Was this review helpful?

Beware it does not work with everything, but the price is right. I have a similar device (Purchased in Japan 3 years ago) by Arvel model H46US-GR (smaller with a little longer cord) and it works fine with all my devices and without a power adpter. So I purchased the Linksys (model USBHUB4C so as to not have to carry the Arvel back and forth to work) The Linksys works find with some devices (128 MB Jumpdrive, USB printer) but will not work with my external USB laptop hard disk drive. I do not know if it is a USB 1.1 to 2.0 problem or if it needs the external power supply - which does not seem to be available and is undefined as to voltage requirements. I cannot even find it on the Linksys site. At $13 it is not worth the trouble to return. Was this review helpful?

there is one draw back to this hub especially if you want to use it with a desktop solution rather than a notebook... the cord that connects to the usb port on the computer is only about 6 inches long... it needs to be a bit longer if you use it with a desktop... but you can buy the extension cables for about $8-12 :) Was this review helpful?

This is an excellent product with an excellent price. The least expensive 4-port hub I could find at a brick and mortar store was 15.99 No software to load, just plug and play. Was this review helpful?

Either Linksys leaves it out, or I completely missed it, but I was not aware that this hub comes without a DC power adapter required if any of your USB devices require power. ALL of my USB devices require power, so this hub is USELESS since it is IMPOSSIBLE to find this power adapter for sale anywhere. Was this review helpful?

Compact in size and has no flaws.
So far I have plugged four devices and all operate seamlessly. Flexible cable connects to any laptop and can be tucked behind to hide cables.
Just get it... Was this review helpful?

This thing was easy to setup - just plug it in and it works. I am also using it connect to another hub which has more devices on it and it works. No problems whatsoever. Was this review helpful?
16 of 17 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Use up to 4 USB 1.1 Devices Saturday, August 31, 2002 A Customer from Ut
Be warned that it is only advertised as being able to work with 1.1 devices. I didn't see that and expected it to be 2.0 compliant.
On the plus side, however, it works. It's compact.
If you need a power supply, it dosn't have one. That's extra. The pigtail to connect to your computer's USB is too short for when you have to connect to the back panel. It would probably be sufficient if there's a USB port on the front of the computer. Was this review helpful?
