4 of 5 Exactly what I expected Saturday, February 28, 2009
Mike from Northfield, MN

I have owned the previous generation of Linksys webcams, the new version has a better image in the HQ mode. Other than that nothing much has changed...its a nice little camera for the price.

4 of 5 Seems pretty good Monday, December 29, 2008
A Customer from Wichita, KS
I am unable to use the software that comes with the camera because tech support told me that the do not support Windows XP with Service Pack 3. They told me to uninstall SP3 and it would probably work. That's nuts! So I am only using this with the web interface. It will only work in Internet Explorer (i.e. not Firefox or Chrome). And the UI is a little bit clunky. Other than that the performance of the camera is pretty good. I wish it had a little better low-light performance, though.

4 of 5 Good Camera Sunday, October 12, 2008
A Customer from Gainesville, VA
I bought the camera for it's wireless features. I've had a lot of problems with the software and switched to webcam xp 5. I was unable to confifure the motion detection with the application it came with, but with apps it works decent--fewer false motions due to shadows from clouds. I bought one, and liked it enough to buy two more. One for the font of the house and two for the back.

5 of 5 Quality Product Grows Up & Remains Affordable Sunday, August 24, 2008
Dave from San Diego, California
Linksys has improved its Network Video Camera lineup with the WVC54GCA (the "big brother" to the it WVC54GC product). This great IP based camera that with built-in Wireless G support, video streaming, built-in webcam, administration panel. With a little networking 'know-how' you can set up this camera and monitor it from any web browser, anywhere. There's an included utility which also allows you to schedule recording times for when you're away or even use motion detection to activate it. The 2 cons I have about this camera are that 1) this is a Windows only based utility which means that if you're a Mac household its no good to you (unless you ave a VMWare session or using boot camp) and 2) the WiFi connectivity is problematic. I gave up on it as it initially detected my wifi network, but couldn't hold the settings and instead used it via an ethernet connection (which works great). Bottom line is that it delivers great bang for the buck and well worth the sub $100 price point available online.

4 of 5 Great little camera Monday, August 18, 2008
Rick from Amsterdam, NY
While this camera has an excellent picture for the price, we found that the distance was more limited than expected for a wireless device. It would need a booster for more than 60 feet. We also had to call Linksys support in order to set up the camera. They were excellent in their knowledge and walked us right through the neccessary steps to get this unit on line. Overall, I find this to be everything that I expected in a web cam unit.

4 of 5 Good value Wednesday, August 06, 2008
A Customer from Charlottesville VA.
This IP camera works pretty well. Most people bash it, but if you take into account the price, It is worth it.. First off IP functionality is pretty darn good. Had it running in no time. THe only problem I have is with streaming to my new Cell phone and that is a fault of my cell phone not the camera. I have read on the web other people who can stream to their cell phone. Bad points ? well the lenses is not the clearest and the low light sensitivity is horrible. But it only costs 89.00 ! the only fault I can find with the software is the algorithm for motion detection, on its lowest setting it picks up changes in lighting. I have worked with other products before that have better motion detection parameters. (such as pixel velocity and size)... Overall it is a solid performer. I may by another to watch the dogs while I am at work.

5 of 5 As Advertised Monday, June 16, 2008
Matt from Hollywood, FL
My WVC54GCA performed as documented, (on the PRO: side) with few surprises other than features I missed, while evaluating the specs. I like the quick set-up and stand alone (no pc requirement) Camera performance, both for local access and remote web/port access. The capability to view images, and re-configure (local and remote) make this product very flexible. The flexibility of the Camera Monitor is outstanding. My only negative comment has nothing to do with this product in that I had an O.S. Registry issue, which interfered with the Monitor. (On the con: side) Improve documentation on how to Remote access Camera (port assignments), provide an auto camera brightness option for high/low light viewing, and a camera WLAN active light (the green LED does not reflect WLAN connectivity).

5 of 5 Great product for the price Saturday, May 03, 2008
Peter from Olympia, WA
This camera is an excellent option for basic camera requirements such as home security monitoring or streaming a web feed. The camera itself is very easy to set up. Linksys does a good job of this. The video quality is more than acceptable for this price range. Motion detection and wireless set-up are very easy. I have 2 running in my home and can easily see a detailed view through the web or via my PDA/cell phone. Enabling features such as Internet viewing from outside the home network or streaming to a cell phone at all on the user to understand their router configuration. The camera is just the means to show the image. How it gets to a static domain name or to a cell phone is more complicated but the same problems would be had by any camera.

5 of 5 Simple and effective! Sunday, April 20, 2008
zap3v from Olympia, WA
I have been trying to get another manufacturer's more expensive security camera to work and was very frustrated so I turned to the Linksys here which I thought would be worse quality and have less features. This is not the case at all. First, this was easy to install and was up and running quickly. Video quality is good, sound quality is good, easily able to set up email and FTP motion detection, and with a little router education got this to stream to my mobile phone (Windows Mobile 6 OS). I was banging my head against a wall trying to get the other camera to work when it was the camera not me the whole time. Linksys, for 100 dollars, has a great great product here. I can't speak to the longevity of it since I've only had it one day. But I wish I had gone with this one sooner. Completely satisfied and highly recommended. If you need any assistance setting this up, feel free to email me. Hope I can save you some time from all I have learned this weekend.

3 of 5 Needs some polishing Friday, February 29, 2008
Alex from Baltimore, MD
The product does what it promises, but with some polishing needed to improve or simplify usage. Let's go to Pros/Cons. ----------------- PRO: *** Good video quality *** Built in microphone *** Built in web server *** Wireless built in *** RTSP option *** Draws low power ------------------- CON: *** Took forever to set everything up (I used to be a Network administrator, currently a software developer) so unless you're good with computer networking I wouldn't suggest you get this. *** WiFi range wasn't super good, but that is almost to be expected. Anywhere my laptop dropped below 54Mbps the webcam pretty much died out. *** Windows application that comes with camera forces itself to autostart with Windows every time...option to disable this doesn't work. *** Windows application takes a long time to search for all webcams on network...this gets very annoying since the search is triggered automatically when it shouldn't be, and there is no option to disable the search or cancel a search in progress *** RTSP requires Quicktime audio ports to be open, which isn't mentioned in the manual, so you will need to open them on the receiving side of the video (when connecting over Internet). Even when the ports are open I've been having problem (probably due to the router on receiving side). *** Windows media player http streaming has heavy lag and drops most frames ---------------------- I also think that this webcam should have a built in battery compartment, since it only comes with a 5 volt AC adapter, which doesn't make the unit portable. I ended up buying a battery box at radio shack (had to solder the right DC jack to the box as well), and putting 4 Ni-MH batteries in(AAA through D all work), which gave total voltage of 1.35 * 4 = 5.4 volts, which matched AC adapters output almost perfectly. The webcam actually worked all day on D batteries, and at least an hour on AA batteries, so you can do this if you need true portability, but Linksys should have had some official battery option to begin with. -------------- Overall, I think Linksys needs to address some of the shortcoming in the Cons section I described, as well as add battery support for true portability, and then they'll have a killer product.
