The Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology: Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G.

With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds far faster than standard Wireless-G. But unlike other speed-enhanced technologies, Wireless-N can dynamically enable this double-speed mode for Wireless-N devices, while still connecting to other wireless devices at their respective fastest speeds. In congested areas, the "good neighbor" mode ensures that the Router checks for other wireless devices in the area before gobbling up the radio band.

To help protect your data and privacy, the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. It can serve as your network's DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility.

The incredible speed of Wireless-N makes it ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and Voice over IP telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams through the network at the same time, with no degradation in performance. With the Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games, and run media-intensive applications at incredible speeds, without the hassle of stringing wires!

5 of 5 Simple install and excellent performane Sunday, May 10, 2009
A Customer from Birmingham, MI

Excellent installation software and the performance is stellar. I've been using the router for both a desktop via. the Ethernet direct connection and wireless for my laptop. Excellent signal coverage throughout my house using multiple wireless laptops. I've read a few horror stories about connecting a wireless router with various ISP's, but for me within 10 mins of opening the box I was up and running. Highly recommended.

Two different PCs, two different OSs, drops both of us at least once an hour. Buy something else. We're going back to our WRT56G.

5 of 5 Faster and Better looking Wednesday, February 18, 2009
J Smith from Atlanta, GA
I had a WRT54G before this, and it would kick me off the network every so often. This router has been consistent and reliable, set up was simple enough, and the wireless N makes downloads a bit faster than before. Not to mention is looks very good in the living room!

4 of 5 up and running 2.5 weeks Tuesday, February 17, 2009
gil from Livermore, CA
Install was not perfect. Process actually executed twice with all data lost. No User Guide on CD (contrary to advertising). Few minor configuration issues, especially without the manual. I suggest you don't use LELA. Get the User Guide from website and configure using the web browser interface to the router. Linksys text chat customer support is pretty good. Browser interface to router died once and required power cycle. Be sure to save your configuration (using browser) in case you ever have to hit the reset button and blow away all configuration.

4 of 5 Very satisfied. Monday, January 19, 2009
Bubba from Detroit, Mi.
I am barely 1 step above the absolute novice computer user. This is my 1st router and 1st laptop. I found it pretty easy to hook up, but I needed help from tech support to get her running correctly. The person I talked to was very helpful and patient / understanding with my lack of experience. Got me going in a few minutes (and spoke very clear english). The only complaint I have with the support is I had to wait on "ignore" for 45 minutes before I could actually talk to the support person. (In all fairness to them, it was New Year's Day.) So far as I can tell the router is working well, but we have not been more than 25 feet away from it with the laptop to date. I do believe my desktop PC is a little slower since the router was connected. I do like the compact size and sleek styling. My all-in-one printer and wireless home phone base sit right beside the router on my desk and I have had no problems yet. Couldn't believe it was at my door less than 20 hours after placing the order. Cudos to Buy.com for outstanding shipping and thanks to Lynksys for helpful support.

5 of 5 Great Router Thursday, January 15, 2009
Jesse from Sturgeon Bay, WI
This was very simple to set up and install. Once everything was finished, I did have to pull the power from the modem for a few seconds. Once it was back up and running, I have had no issues at all.

5 of 5 Took three attempts to set it up, but it works gre Wednesday, January 14, 2009
Joe from Tulsa, Oklahoma
This router is an excellent product. Works beautifully. Was probably way more than I needed for the area that needed to be covered, but it works really well. It was very difficult to set up. It took three attempts at the set-up, but the third time was a charm. I highly recommend the product.

5 of 5 Good buy Tuesday, January 06, 2009
C Pierre from Brooklyn, NY
I wasnt really sure what I was getting into when I bought this router. When I received it I thought it would be pretty simple to install but after having encountered difficulties, I was extremely surprised at how good Linksys technical support was at helping me to resolve the problem. Although the rep wasnt the brightest bulb, he was very patient and knew what he was doing. And the best part was that he helped me not only with the installation but with setting up my additional computer. I was impressed because it is so rare to find good technical support these days. So I am pleased with my investment because I know that if I ever have any problems with my router (which I havent yet), I know that I will be able to resolve the problem without a hassle.

4 of 5 After initial install issues - works well Tuesday, January 06, 2009
Girish from NJ
Initial install was somewhat painful - would not recognize my working internet connectyion and LELA would not recongize the correct status. I reset router, uninstalled LELA (and kept it that way) and things are working fine now. I got a good price during Xmas period (I see it now $ 10-15 higher), so especially at that price, very good value.

5 of 5 Sleek and Sexy router Saturday, January 03, 2009
A Customer from New york
I like it, the software gui looks awesome you can manage all the computers and devices through the software and it looks futuristic and sleek. Very cool, has nice security features though unfortunately one of the computers in my household is too old and doesn't support the higher security that the router offers so I had to lower the security and when I tried doing that everything got messed up and I couldn't connect to the internet so I have to reinstall everything. But if all your computers are fine then it should be flawless. As for the claims of it being "Faster then ever before" thats just bs, all the new routers claim they are faster then their predeccesors and competitors but really, its all just the same. Your router can only be as fast as your connection. But it does give you better coverage, provided you have Wireless-N in your computer. I recommend you buy this.

5 of 5 AWESOME Tuesday, December 30, 2008
A Customer from portland oregon
i have had this router for about a month now and im satisfied with it. although its a little sluggish with the internal network settings...when i try to watch a video on my ps3, it runs fine but lags every 30 minutes. might just be my settings or computer but when it comes to basic internet and network stuff i have had no problems with this product at all.

5 of 5 Pretty cool and sleek router. Best router so far Saturday, November 22, 2008
A Customer from Sunnyvale, CA
I received this routher on very next day even if my shipping was ground. I had past experiances with Buy.com, they always ship you next day so don't spend extra money for next day delivery. I am very happy with this router. Easy to setup/install, performace is great and looks really cool. But, it's little expensive though. It would be better if they can sell below $50. There are couple of websites which sells few bucks cheaper than buy.com but you don't get service like Buy.com Thank you,

5 of 5 Better than advertised Saturday, November 15, 2008
A Customer from Columbia MD
I had a Linksys G rated wireless router. I bought the N version and have had significantly better wireless performance. No more unplugging and plugging of the router to get the signal. Also, the speed is much improved.

5 of 5 WRT 160N v2 Tuesday, October 21, 2008
rmkurshan from Roanoke, VA
ordered and received the router promptly. If you are a Mac user, do not use the install CD which comes with the router. I did and the router would not work. I reset the router and used the WPA security, and it worked great and fast. Seems to be good equipment.

4 of 5 Works as advertised Tuesday, October 07, 2008
A Customer from Boulder, CO
Good buy! If you have had the older G Linksys routers, this is a nice upgrade. Two concerns: First, the 'easy' installation has never worked correctly for me, on this and older Linksys units. Luckily I know how to configure it directly from the admin panels. Second, I have not noticed a speed increase in my new Dell XPS laptop. I did not take WiFi measures before and after, so this is just a subjective impression.

4 of 5 Works Fine, Setup Problem Monday, September 29, 2008
norm from Gainesville, VA
Router seems to work very well. However, It would not reconnect after a power cycle - I had to connect an ethernet cable to get it to come back on-line. Linksys support worked on it a long time. Final solution: Change security from WPA2 to WEP. It then worked rine.

Once I got it up and running it proved to be very fast and powerful. The Linksys WRT160N is indeed beautiful as well as functional. I do recommend downloading all i\the installation information you can find. As I am a bit slow with my PC skills, I found I needed all the help I could get. But, it works just fine now. I'm Happy. A good price and fast shipping.

4 of 5 It works for me Tuesday, April 29, 2008
dolbhy1 from Illinois
i bought this this router after comparing it to others and reading reviews from other cites, it came with in two days of shipping, was easy to set up with the computer and cable, there is a lapse time between loading that i notice, but everything is faster than before. may i suggest,if u have any problems with connectivity its better to call your internet provider than linksys, cuz they know more on connecting to the internet. i think this is a better one if u compare it to other brands and similar ones from linksys.

5 of 5 Maximum performance and reliability Sunday, April 20, 2008
A Customer from Oxford, PA
I replaced my Netgear wireless router with this Linksys. The configuration was easy. It took all of 5 minutes to configure, and I have remote access to my home network from work as well as a Slingbox. The amount of options were amazing. I had periodic problems with my NetGear and my Linksys has been up and running with 0 downtime.

1 of 5 NEVER GOT IT WORKING! Thursday, April 17, 2008
brntorange from san antonio, tx
Product came in a timely fashion...never was able to get it to work. Called Linksys...they never could get it to work...they deemed the unit defective...they were suppose to send me another one...have never received it...Linksys customer service...TERRIBLE!!! You do NOT want to deal with these people...too bad, because in general, Linksys products have a reputable name. Their representatives are giving them a BAD reputation based on the lack of customer service they provide, AND they can't speak English very well, which makes the whole experience dealing with them even harder! Sooner or later, companies will wake up and understand that the sale is just one part...if they want repeat customers, they have to provide service!

The Linksys Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router - WRT160N has created a nice bubble around my property. It has a great secure set up and I am also using it to connect all my computers to an ad hoc network. It does what it says it will. It is what it is. The price on Buy.com is really nice, I have seen this in stores at $170.00
