The Linksys Powerline AV Network Kit contains a single-port Powerline AV Adapter, and a four-port Powerline AV Adapter, which let you easily create a network using the existing electrical outlets in your home. Now you don't have to drill holes in walls and climb through the attic or cellar to install network cables -- just use the wires that already run through the building.

With Powerline AV Network Adapters, you can connect computers or any other wired Ethernet device using the HomePlug® AV network standard. Adding devices to the network is as simple as plugging a Powerline AV Adapter into an electrical outlet, and connecting your Ethernet-equipped devices to the built-in Ethernet ports. Additional devices can be connected to the same network using additional Powerline AV Adapters plugged into an electrical outlet anywhere in the house.

Once your computers are connected to the network, they can share resources like printers and storage space, and all kinds of files -- video, music, digital pictures, and documents. With up to 200Mbps data rates*, you can play virtually lag-free head-to-head network computer games, and run applications like streaming standard or HD video, and Voice over IP telephony. Plug your Internet connected router into a Powerline AV Adapter and you'll be able to get to the Internet from any Powerline AV attached computer in the house.

The Linksys Powerline AV Network kit gets you started with easy, "no new wires", home or office networking.

5 of 5 Great product, but not for VoIP Tuesday, May 05, 2009
A Customer from Chapin, SC

This works great with my Linksys router, but it has caused our Vonage to become crackly and sporadic. Not a big deal since we only keep that phone for emergencies and satellite hook-up, but it still is a drawback. Other than that, the product is AWESOME!

5 of 5 Solved my problem Saturday, April 25, 2009
A Customer from Cupertino, CA
I was trying to establish a wireless network since my daughter moved back home and set up her office in our garage. The wireless was not robust enough to connect all the computers in the garage, both Mac and PC. I bought this power line adapter, plugged it in according to directions and it worked! We've had it about a month, and I am quite satisfied with the product.

5 of 5 Just What I needed! Wednesday, February 18, 2009
A Customer from Miami, FL
Ascetically pleasing and functional, very convenient, and incredibly easy to set-up (took maybe 6 minutes to have it completely installed and functioning). I did not have any way to get internet from my office to my family room (without having to use a ridicules amount of cabling) to hook up my blu-ray player, satellite DVR box, and my X-Box. This did the trick perfectly! I can know update my electronics software, access my satellites "On-Demand" feature and watch my Netflix movies via my X-Box with ease. My only complaint is I wish it was a little cheaper, but still very satisfied with my purchase. ^.^

5 of 5 Works great and in questionable set-up Friday, February 13, 2009
Dron from Trenton, NJ
I wasn't sure if this product was going to work for me because my router is located in my office which is above my garage and separate from the house, so there is a circuit breaker between the garage and my house...didn't know if that would be a problem for extending the network. Anyway, I bought two adapter kits because I have so many devices on my wireless network that they've started knocking each other off and I wanted more speed by being hard wireled to the network for certain devices (3 laptops, one desktop, one IP phone, network printer, PS3, Denon reciever, D-Link Home Theater Media Server, one iPhone). I plugged the adapter in between the router and a wall electrical socket and plugged another, four port adapter into a socket near my office computer and IP phone and hooked them up...worked immediately with no additional fiddling. The real test was connecting the desktop computer in the house (physically the furthest away and on the other side of the garage circuit breaker from the main adapter/router) via a single port adapter...again no problem, no fuss, works fine. I love the added connection speed (100Mbps wired vs. 54 Mbps wireless). Now I just have to figure out setting up the security!

5 of 5 Works like a charm Saturday, February 07, 2009
Ken from Vancouver, WA
Bought this to provide broadband access to a DVR and Blu-Ray player in my bedroom. It is absolutely the simplest installation I have ever seen. Basically, just plug it in. I am getting 200Mbps as advertised but I have a relatively new home (4 years old) so the wiring is pretty good. Activating the encryption feature is also easy. As for cheaper solutions, there may be some out there but I prefer to put my money on a brand I know and trust. I have used Linksys products for years with no problems whatsoever. If you're looking to extend your home network and don't want to use wireless, I recommend this solution!

5 of 5 Works as advertised Tuesday, January 27, 2009
Bo from San Jose, CA
Opened the box. Plugged it in. It worked. Getting top speed on downloads (3Mb/s DSL). I live in a fairly new house so the wiring is new. Didn't have any of the problems mentioned in other reviews. Unit doesn't run hot, the blue lights aren't too bright. I didn't try the security feature so I can't comment on that. Hopefully the price can come down a little bit on this but definitely worth it to avoid running wires or adding a wireless extender.

The product works great - fast delivery. The price is high. Since purchasing I have found other products with similar features for much less. I now wished I had done more comparible shopping before purchasing.

5 of 5 Works GREAT! Friday, January 16, 2009
A Customer from Matthews, NC
It's been quite a while since I've been this satisfied and excited about a purchase. I have 2 DirecTV HD DVR's and a VUDU box in the house and wanted to start taking advantage of the new DirecTV on Demand service (which requires an internet connection). The house is not pre-wired and the router is on a different floor. I have been using an wireless ethernet bridge for the VUDU box which has worked well. I purchased this kit and an extra adapter for the 2nd location. It could not have been any easier - plug in the adapters and BAM!, instant internet connectivity. At one location I have both the HD DVR and VUDU box operating on 1 adapter and it works great (have eliminated the wireless ethernet bridge). BTW, I also have an extensive home automation network that uses Insteon devices via the powerline and there has been NO interference - they play well together. Highly recommend.

5 of 5 Quick and easy fix to expand wireless network Friday, January 02, 2009
A Customer from New York, NY
First of all: great product, easy to install, and it delivers ! We have ATT Uverse service in a 2-story house. The RG (residential gateway, which also serves as wireless router) is installed on W-side of the upper floor, and we added an office on the E-side of the house, on the lower floor. In the office we are using 2 laptops (wireless) and a wireless print server, and the wireless signal in the office was very weak (constant disconnects), frequently making it impossible to access a shared drive or print to the wireless printer. For several reasons we did not want to move the RG; CAT5 cabling was out of the question as well. I tried several solutions. First was a Belking Wireless extender, installed it halfway between the RG and the office. When it worked it worked OK, but it did require frequent resetting (usually once or twice a day) - quite a nuisance, especially when in the process of saving a file to the shared drive or sending a job to the printer. Next I had a glorious idea. One of the TVs (and one ATT Uverse cable box) is located in the office. In our installation ATT used coax cabling between the RG and the set-top boxes, and each box also has an RJ45 ethernet jack in the back, which can be used to hook up networking devices. ATT does not support this use (the ethernet jack is primarily used as alternative cabling - the TV signal can either be routed via coax or CAT5, and of course if ATT's wiring is by CAT5, then the ethernet jack would not be available). So I hooked up an old router I had sitting around (Linksys WRT54G), set it to dumb access-point mode, and voila - I got a strong stable wireless signal in the office !! It worked perfectly fine, until we turned on the TV in the office and were presented with a sometimes heavily pixelated, sometimes frozen picture. I guess that's the reason why ATT does not support nor advertise this use of the ethernet jack on the cable box. This sent me back to the drawing board and review other options. The first time I had researched Powerline networking a little over a year ago I had been turned off by various problems reported in user reviews which ranged from unreliable to overheading adapters to weak performance. Only this time I did find some very positive reviews - obviously the technology had matured in the meantime, plus the new Powerline AV standard promised higher throughput - advertised speed up to 200Mbps (more about that later). There are several products from most major manufacturers on the market, I settled on the Linksys product. Not only do they have a stylish and unobstrusive look, but I liked the fact that they are not directly plugged into the wall outlet (possibly blocking an adjacent outlet) but have a little extension cable. The Linksys Powerline AV kit contains one adapter with one ethernet port, and a second one with 4 ethernet ports, plus the necessary ethernet cables. Setup was a breeze: unpack, plug the 1-port adapter into a port of the main router (in our case the Uverse RG) and its power cable into a wall outlet (NOT a power strip or UPS). Then plug the 4-port adapter into a wall outlet in the area where you want to provide service (in our case, in the office) and hook any device into one of the 4 ports. After a few seconds the "home" light on the 4-port adapter lit up, signifying that it found the connection to its little brother upstairs. - And that's all the setup needed !! The powerline kit also includes an option to secure the powerline network by pressing a button on both devices to set up a secure connection - this may come in handy in multi-dwelling units, but I did not try it (yet). The included CD only contains the user manual but no software - there is no software setup necessary for the Linksys product. Plugging my laptop into one of the 4 ports produced good peformance (although I did not measure it). Next, I hooked up the old WRT54G wireless router into one of the ports. The WRT54G of course set to dumb mode (DHCP turned off) and set to the same SSID but a different channel than the Uverse RG. And, voila - we now have a strong and stable wireless signal in the office !! No problems with wireless printing or accessing the shared drives any more !! Regarding the performance: although the HomePlug AV standard is advertised as up to 200 Mbps this is not a true figure. Number one, it refers to 100 Mbps each way. Number two, it will be influenced by the wiring quality, whether both power outlets used are sitting on the same circuitbreaker or not, major appliances which may be sitting on the same circuit, etc. This said, I have not performed a technical throughput test, but for all practical purposes it works fine, and soon I will test its video streaming capabilities .. One last word: HomePlug AV devices are not compatible with the older HomePlug standard, and as mentioned they do not deliver the 200 Mbps speed advertised, but I figured it is a more mature product and better to avoid being bottlenecked by the speed limitations of the older Homeplug standard. Bottomline is, the Linksys Powerline AV works well, so far (after a few weeks of use) no problems to report, and with its help (and the use of an old wireless router) we finally have the entire house covered with internet and network access .....

5 of 5 Love the powerline ethernet adapters Wednesday, December 17, 2008
A Customer from Fort Worth, TX
We purchased this because my spouse's wireless connection was constantly "taking long break." Very easy to install and he hasn't had a problem since. I look forward to purchasing another set to connect two other wireless devices in the house!

5 of 5 A great device for home networking Saturday, November 22, 2008
Henry from Florida
This is an excellent product. If you're having problems with your wireless network or you don't want to run Cat 5 cables throughout the house, consider this device. It works really well with the electrical wiring in the house and download speeds are fast. The only downside is that this device must be connected directly to the wall socket. You cannot run it through power strips, surge protectors, or UPSs. The signal will be really diminished or it will fail to connect. Just make sure you have a free outlet plug on the wall. Overall, it works great and it is very easy to setup.
