| Now you can quickly and easily add storage space onto your network with the Linksys Network Storage System. This stand-alone network appliance features two available SATA hard drive bays so you can attach as much storage as you need now, and add more later as your storage needs grow. For even more expandability, there are two USB ports that let you connect readily available USB 2.0 hard drives for even more storage space -- or plug in a USB flash disk for a convenient way of accessing your portable data files.
Connecting the Storage System to your network is simple -- just plug it directly into an available 10/100 Ethernet port on your router or switch, and the storage is instantly accessible by your whole network.
| | Features | | Provides 2 bays with SATA interface, easy installation and removal | | Provides 2 USB ports, supports USB memory devices such as flash disk or USB hard drive | | Flexible disk configuration: 1) combine 2 drives to be seen as one, 2) disk-to-disk mirroring, 3) striping, or just 4) two separate drives | | Share storage with PCs connected to the network | | Push button for data backup | | The built-in download manager enables users to initiate an FTP or HTTP download task from a PC’s web browser. Hey, for my office - where my office is already noisy (I'm in Brooklyn, NY) - this thing's sound is barely noticeable. When I kick it off after it's been asleep for days, it makes some noise for a while and then calms down and I don't hear from it again (even if I'm still browsing files). I also don't have it in a place where it's all that close to my ears (down on the ground behind some stuff).
But it was SIMPLE to setup... I mean REALLY simple... and I was set to go! I followed some of the instructions posted on reviews here and on Amazon, such as updating firmware off the bat, downloading the software off the net, etc... but all was great.
In the end, this thing has served its purpose for me. two 1TB drives now redundant and I'm happy :-D!
Oh, in the end I feel I SHOULD add that I'm in the field of IT - but this did not require much IT skill... Was this review helpful?

Great unit... slipped in a couple of Western Digital Caviar GP 750 GB drives and was up and running with RAID1 in minutes.
Unfortunately, The ethernet connection is the ONLY connection to your computer, and it is not really that fast. Certainly seems slower than 100 mbit. Ideally I'd have liked a unit that could connect to a computer through ethernet or USB2, but its not to be with this unit. You can use the 2 USB ports to connect external USB drives.
It's been reliable. You can configure it to spin doen the disks and fans after a period of non-use. That's nice since 2 drives running the whole time is kinda noisy.

I've had the Linksys NAS200 setup now for about 2 weeks. I use the RAID 1 configuration with two 640GB WD HDDs. Setup was easy and straightforward. The wife and I have used it simultaneously and the only feature that I find lacking is a 1GB Ethernet adapter. I give it a 5 across the board except for the 4 in performance as it is not quite as fast as I would have expected for a 100 MB ethernet port. The speed is reasonable, but not as fast as it could be. Other than that, I have no complaints and recommend you buy one! :) Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Nice product. Monday, January 19, 2009 A Customer from Altoona, PA
I've had the Linksys NAS200 installed at home for nearly 2 months now, and it's been working great. Easy to install. Installed two SATA drives into the unit and connected it to the local network. Easily set up shared folders for all the family members to access. Security could be more robust, but at least it offers a couple levels of security. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Saturday, January 17, 2009 Dean from Ormond Beach, FL
This is a great product. I have several for business customers. This was the lowest price I have ever seen. Easy setup and very reliable. Very good solution for network backup and data storage. You will need to print the manual off the CD in order to setup the advanced options (FTP, DNS ect.). Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 I am very satisfied. Monday, January 12, 2009 A Customer from Virginia
I got this on Buy.com for $75. Great value. Educate yourself about this device on the linksys forum and you will be prepared to get the most out it. http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board?board.id=Network_Storage. Be sure to update the firmware! Works great as a media server with my xbox 360. Better than windows media player. It's not the fastest, but for the price it's amazing. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 I really like this device it is working great for Tuesday, January 06, 2009 Nathan from Arlington TX
I was useing a WD MY Book World edition 1 TB with the drives mirrored so only had .5TB available for use. This worked OK for me but was very slow. Recently it started making noise so I started shopping around. After much searching I decided to go with the NAS200. I put in 2 1.5TB Seagate drives and I couldn't be happier. I have it setup to mirror it was easy to setup and easy to use. The speed issue I had with the other drive doesn't seem to be there with this one. The only think I would say is slow is the amount of time it takes to boot up. Once it is up and running it works just wonderful. I store all of my music files there as well as documents and photos. We have 5 computers in our home and using this makes our files available to all of the computers when ever needed. I love this box and would recommend it to others. Was this review helpful?
2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 Easy installation but a little bit noisy Monday, January 05, 2009 A Customer from Fremont, CA
Installation was easy to follow. But device itself doesn't accept native NTFS; I had to re-format my USB hard drives in order to move stuff back and forth from network. The internal hard drives were a little noisy. Was this review helpful?

1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Good Product Saturday, December 20, 2008 fengster from Princeton, NJ
I set it up before SATA drives arrive, I connected my External on NAS's USB port, it works immediately.
The initial setup program is good, but the BACK and NEXT button does not show until you move your mouse cursor on top of it.
The default username is admin (as most of linksys products), but it is not mentioned on the booklet, you will need it when using web interface.
For $80 product, I am very satisfy with it.

5 of 5 Great product. Tuesday, August 19, 2008 A Customer from San Antonio, Texas
I slid in a couple of 500GB drives and hooked it up with a wireless router. Configuration took only a few minutes. One of the best investments I've made. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good Support Thursday, June 19, 2008 Nicholas from Waddell, Arizona
Very useful item, exactly what I hoped for. I was able to setup my FTP with the support of Linksys, and I was able to back up my files from my desktop using the free SyncBack software. Overall it's perfect. I'm running just 1 TB Seagate 32MB buffer Hard Drive and so far I see no heating issues like other reviews mentioned, maybe they didn't know how to keep it in a relatively cool are to begin with I don't know. I've already advised friends to purchase as well. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Great little NAS! Friday, May 30, 2008 Len from Princeton NJ
Quick to setup with mirroring. Slapped two hard disks in and was a snap to setup. Would be better with a 100mbps interface instead of the 10mbps, but maybe the next one will be upgraded. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Very good backup system Tuesday, April 29, 2008 Jack T from Midland, Texas
Very easy to set up. Had it going on two computers in less than an hour. The only knock I've had was when I had a power failure, my Linksys router reset and changed the IP address on the NAS 200. Then I had to redo the drive mapping, and all of my saved backups. Was this review helpful?

Doesn't perform to the specs. Issues with Raid, backup and doesn't allow enough custom configuration. Was this review helpful?
3 of 3 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Average Overall Thursday, November 29, 2007 A Customer from New York, NY
I purchased this item a few months ago. It was worth the $100 I paid for it. I was however, disappointed by the speed at which this device transfers files. I expected something drastically faster. So, if you are not worried about speed, then this is the drive for you! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 Good functionality, poor perfoemance. Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Ponte Vedra Beach, FL
The two bay storage system was an excellent solution for my home network. It allows all my family to share music and pictures. I think it is a must for any home network. The access speed, however, is a big disappointment. I was expecting much better performance from my SATA devices which are very fast when they were attached to my computer. But overall I am happy with the system. Was this review helpful?
