The Gigabit 8-Port Workgroup Switch provides non-blocking, wire speed switching for your 10, 100, and 1000 megabit network clients. Drop this switch in place of your current workgroup hub or switch, and you can upgrade your high-requirement workstations to full Gigabit speeds as necessary, while continuing to service other clients at their current speeds. Or build your network from the ground up, with appropriate link speeds for each user's requirements.

Apply this switching power to your current hub-based Ethernet network, and your data traffic efficiency will improve several times over. Connect your Gigabit-equipped workstations to the Switch's 10/100/1000 ports for full-duplex, dedicated bandwidth. It's perfect for graphics, multimedia, and other applications that have to move large files across the network quickly.

With the Gigabit 8-Port Workgroup Switch, you can connect your existing 10/100 Ethernet network to your Gigabit server backbone without any additional equipment. All ports are auto-negotiating, and have automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover detection, so you don't have to worry about the cable type. Address learning and aging is supported, as well as 802.3x flow control with head-of-line blocking prevention to keep your high-speed clients from bogging down in lower-speed traffic.

The Gigabit 8-Port Workgroup Switch from Linksys is the perfect solution for your desktop Gigabit and 10/100 networking needs.

5 of 5 Work group switch works great Monday, March 16, 2009
A Customer from Abingdon, VA

No problems at all went in with no issues. Replace my 100 base network with 1000 base network all works great. Great buy with buy.com lowest price and fast delivery. Hooking up to our towns fiber backbone. Just waiting for a good gig wireless N router to replace the g 100 base linksys router I have now. Waiting for the N standard to be finish before I decide on which router to get.

5 of 5 Not Hot and No Fan Saturday, February 21, 2009
Jim from Austin, Texas
Switch is silent and doesn't run hot. The hot one with the loud fan must have been an older version. I plugged it in and it works. I had a netgear 5 port switch that I replaced with this one, the netgear seemed to take several seconds before it would actually connect a device to the network, this linksys connects devices as fast as you can plug them in.

5 of 5 Fast, quiet, plug it in and it works. Monday, November 03, 2008
Todd C. from Holland, Michigan
Not sure if others are talking about older versions, but this model is quiet as a mouse. Obviously, no configuration is required, as it's not a router. I've got 6 ports already in use with no issues. The switch just sits on the floor and works. For the same money as the 100Mb switches, why not go with the gigabit switch? That's my two cents.

5 of 5 It Just Works Sunday, July 06, 2008
bdoserr from Weems, VA
Not much to say; it just works. I have no idea where the "fan noise" comment came from. I haven't cracked it open, but if it has a fan at all I would be very surprised. It's particularly good for home/small office use, because it takes up little space and has the connectors in the back while the LEDs are in front. So no obvious cable mess if you choose to leave it out in the open. Or if you don't think that flashing lights are kewl, put it behind the furniture.

5 of 5 Works Perfectly Saturday, July 05, 2008
A Customer from Western New York
Unplugged the old ethernet switch and plugged this one in its place. Rebooted everything, and it worked beautifully. This new 8 port gigabit switch is not much bigger than my old 5 port ethernet switch.

5 of 5 Works as expected Saturday, July 05, 2008
marian from Cape Canaveral, Florida
It's a nice piece of modern network equipment. Worked out of the box. Just plugged it in and voila! you've got yourself a network. I have on my network a dhcp server and several machines on different speeds. They all communicate excellent at their maximum hardware speed. Very pleased with it's performance.

I am very happy with this product. It was very easy to set up and now is a key component of my LAN providing me with much needed expansion and the ability to transfer between key devices at gigabit speed. Great price and fast delivery from buy.com.

5 of 5 Works fine with Apple Time Capsule Wednesday, May 28, 2008
A Customer from Boxford, MA
I bought this to add gigabit ports with my Apple Time Capsule and it worked instantly and with out issue. I have had it for about 3 weeks and have had no issues. It is hooked up to my Vonage box and an Apple TV with no problems at all. If it can do this with out issue then my guess is it will do anything. Buy.com shipped quickly and the price was great.

5 of 5 Another excellent product by Linksys/Cisco Tuesday, August 07, 2007
Tabish from New York, NY
The Linksys (EG008W) Instant Gigabit Switch is the nerve center for network in my home, which consists of two wireless nodes and 8 physician Cat-5e connections. It is a fantastic product, reasonably priced, and aesthetically appealing (Cisco is finally phasing out Linksys' cheap looking blue/grey combination). The switch is blazingly fast. It is clear that the bottleneck in transferring data between computers and our gigabit network access storage has become the 100 Mbps laptops that we use to connect to the network. Totally recommended; in fact, Linksys also sells another 10/100Mbps switch (cheaper) and I would recommend paying the extra money and upgrading to the gigabit switch to be ready when gigabit networking becomes the norm. I know I did (I had previously ordered the other one from Buy.com and returned it).

5 of 5 Gigabit is the way to go. Tuesday, October 10, 2006
A Customer from Lewisville, NC
If you want to move a LOT of data across your network fast, then consider upgrading to a GIGABIT switch. I have all my network devices (Brother Printer, Notebook with PCM1000 Linksys adapter, Linkstation Pro 320MB HD) hooked directly to the switch. One cable running from my switch to the Linksys WRT54G router. And finally, a little room to grow with 4 (sometimes 3) ports on the switch unused. All it took was plugging in the cables and the power adapter and instant Gigabit network. The cable to the router provides a 100M connection to the DSL modem but as it's just DSL, Gigabit is overkill on even the best DSL. Bottom line, if you want to have computer to computer connections and get the best throughput, get this switch.

5 of 5 Sweet Cheap Gigabit for Lan Party Wednesday, July 14, 2004
Mike Flender from Hiawatha, Iowa
I have two Macs with gigabit ethernet built in, so with the large file transfers I do between them, it was a wise investment. Also, if you are into hosting LAN parties, having the game server run at gigabit speeds helps everyone's games launch faster. Also, PC gigabit NIC's can be had for under $50.

5 of 5 Great Switch Thursday, January 29, 2004
Rich from CO
I have been using this switch for about 2 months with no problems. There are people that say this switch is nosy becasue it has a cooling fan, however the fan noise is much less than my computer case fan and is hardly noticable. Over all an excellent product linksys has put out. I will definatelly buy another one when I need extra ports.
