Replacing myths with research, Goldberg shows that the original fascists were really on the Left and that liberals, from Woodrow Wilson to FDR to Hillary Clinton, have advocated policies and principles remarkably similar to those of Hitlers National Socialism.

Annotation:
Conservative pundit Jonah Goldberg finds many parallels between the liberal agenda today and the fascist agendas of the National Socialists and Italian fascists, including: free health care, gun control, and the redistribution of wealth. Goldberg argues that it was the American left and progressive factions that gave support to Mussolini and Hitler. In America, a form of 'friendly fascism" arose, and he cites Woodrow Wilson, Hollywood, Hillary Clinton, and the New York Times as exemplars of this view. Hitler, he reminds us, was a vegetarian!

Praise
"A partisan but entertaining historical analysis." 11/03/2007

"[W]hat distinguishes Goldberg from the Sean Hannitys and Michael Savages is a witty intelligence that deal in ideas as well as insults--no mean feat in the nasty world of the culture wars." - David Oshinsky 12/30/2007

"Mr. Goldberg makes a strong and compelling case that the very idea of fascism emanated from the ranks of liberalism....Disagree if you must, but go out and read this brilliant, insightful, and important book." - Ronald Radosh 01/04/2008

Germany passed its hateful race policies-the Nuremberg Laws-in 1935, and Mussolini's Italy followed suit in 1938. German Jews were rounded up in 1942, and Jews in Italy were rounded up in 1943. A few writers will casually mention, in parenthetical asides, that until Italy passed its race laws there were actually Jews serving in the Italian government and the Fascist Party. And on occasion you'll notice a nod to historical accu

5 of 5 Excellent material for debate Saturday, March 01, 2008

I just got done reading this marvelously written book. It not only covers everything but Mr. Goldberg makes sure that he is not implying nor suggesting any accusations but is showing through documentation what American liberal fascism really is and where it shows in our political society.
