5 of 5 Great value for its performance Saturday, June 07, 2008 A Customer from Virginia Beach, VA
This is my second Lexmark printer, after the X6150. I was able to add this to my network, set up and install on 4 computers - 2 laptops running XP, one laptop running Vista, and a dinosaur desktop running on CE. The desktop is the only pc that is wired. Each computer printed flawlessly. The install was quick. Copy function is fine. Fax works fine. Double-sided printing is sweet. I do have to agree about the scanning - it's best done wired direct between a computer and the printer. If not, it will scan - but you can't refine the scanning space, the quality or colors.
Regarding software and drivers - no problems with any of my computers that run Norton Internet Security 2008. Did not have download any additional drivers - everything is on the accompanying install CD. The only thing you need to buy is paper. Was this review helpful?

I bought this new, thinking that it was a deal. I have previously owned Lexmark printers and other than the price of the replacement ink cartridges, thought the printers were well made and an overall good deal. But that ends here. I have spent 148.5 hours on the phone with "tech support" for lexmark (no, I am NOT joking). One night I even spent an hour on hold waiting to speak with someone and then 4 hours on the phone with them (I had a research paper due in the next morning and the printer went stupid, AGAIN). It seems that whenever updates are performed to your computer (be it Vists of HP or Mac) they cause the print drivers to no longer work. If you just don't do any security updates for your computer, and turn your anti-virus, firewall, and spyware programs...it will work without too much of a glitch for a few weeks. Of course your computer may have a virus, but you will be able to print! The lexmark productivity pack is not compatible with Norton antivirus, Symantec, or Spy Sweeper. Also, if you try to run it with these programs, it will crash all of these programs, as well as itself, and you will have uninstall and reinstall them all. Sometimes, if you just use windows print driver, you can get it to print when it is acting up, but you cannot duplex with this driver. This will only work for a short time, anyway (why I am not sure and even Lexmark could not explain it). Also, even though the printer says that it is Vista compatible, it is not until you install it and then find the upgraded version online(Good Luck, it is tricky!!). I also had it crash the 2007 Student Office (word, excel, one note..). And, the uninstall does not work for Lexmark. It has to be removed in peices, after the renaming of each file folder and subfolder. This can take hours, Oh... and if you are not computer savy, you will may create new problems!! Luckily my dad is a programmer!! It also is not compatible with my Linksys router. I got help from Lynksys to change the IPs. Lexmark was no help even though it was actually their problem. I have not had anything else that has had a problem with the most common router on the market: Just Lexmark!!! Oh, and you can not use the phone unless you unplug the printer because the fax will blast in your eardrum. It is not suppose to come on unless an incoming call or you manually push a button, etc...but it comes on whenever you try to dial a number (about the time the phone starts to ring on the other end). And if you tell it to cancel, it won't you have to unplug it! And, you cannot scan several pages at a time through the auto feeder: it will load them sideways and crumble them up until it jams up. This is great with important original documents! Lexmark finally sent me a different printer. Sad thing is that it did almost everything that the first one did. And, I would like to add that it did all of this stuff with three different computers! All brand new computers!!! So, sorry about the rambling, and trust me...I have a lot more. But, hopefully this is enough to detour some other poor soul from making the same mistake. Spend the extra money because in the long run it is much much much cheaper!!!!!!!!!!!! 4 of 5 Great printer Thursday, May 08, 2008 Manny from FL
Printer is awesome, quite, very well fabricated, quality is great, setup is very easy. Fast printing. The only thing I dont like is that if you are using wireless you can only scan using their Productivity Software which is a little bit slow to load and use. If you try another program to scan it won't find the printer. But other than that is a GREAT! printer. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very great for the price. Scanning not direct Sunday, April 20, 2008 Eric Anderson from Tacoma, WA
Wow is what I said regarding all that this unit can do. I was surprised to find out that one of the features too was that this unit can work as a fax driver so that any and all computers on the network can send a fax through this unit as a fax server. How cool is that!? A down side though I discovered is that the scanning into a PC is only directly from the unit to a PC, or from the software included. 3rd party software programs can't scan directly from this all-in-one as you can with any standard twain scanner. However, for the price and functionality (and the fact that your desk is so much less cluttered) it's worth it!
I've always steered away from Lexmark thinking it was a lesser quality brand. So far I'm thrilled with this one. I bought two, so that I could donate the second to our church.
The only reason I mark ease of use a 4, while all other marks a 5, is that it was easy to install on Vista, on XP, I had a minor challenge getting the fax driver to work. Their support was not helpful either. I did finally figure it out, but by only using the first time install process not the second time (its a little detail that depends on whether you're installing on the first computer or subsequent computers, not likely the version of OS). I recommend you to always do the first time install, and when you do things that are already done, just fly through it. It's the only way to get the fax driver installed.
Hope this helps someone out there! Was this review helpful?
