5 of 5 Nice machine for the money! Saturday, November 15, 2008 Roger from Phillipsburg, NJ
I bought this system to replace my old IBM T-40 since the whole world is going widescreen, and the old machine just didn't have the feaatures I wanted anymore. First off I think it's cool that they offer a laptop anymore with XP on it. Secondly, it has all the bells and whistles I was looking for. It's fast, has loads of ports, and even a DVD burner! How can you beat that for under $600?! RAM is cheap now, so I ordered another 1GB to bring it up to 2GB (max is 4GB). So far my only complaint is Windows Movie Maker crashes. This could be my fault since I uninstalled a lot of the trail-ware that came pre-installed. The system does have another video making program (WinDVD) that works, but I just liked the MS Movie Make interface better. Note: NO disks come with this system. Oddly enough, I've read that it has a restore copy of Vista Basic on a restore partition. This means if you crash you'll only have Vista to restore. If you are technically savvy, do yourself a favor and back up all of the drivers. Better yet, use Norton Ghost to make a backup as soon as you get this laptop so you'll have a running copy of XP. I repair IBM/Lenovo laptops for a living and I can tell you they are well built! I plan to buy the 3-year coverage warranty since I think I will have this laptop for at least that long. Another note - I have tried Ubuntu Linux 8.04 on this machine and it works well. You may have to do some tweaks to get the sound working, but everything else is working well as of now.
