The soundtrack to Legally Blonde 2 is almost as slight as the movie it supports, featuring just 11 tracks, two of which are versions of LeAnn Rimes' pleasant but slightly bland girl-power anthem "We Can" (one has a more straightforward pop feel; the other features pedal steel to make it sound "country"). Hope 7's "Breakthrough" and Superchic(k)'s "Me Against the World" offer more perky-yet-fiesty antics that sound rather feeble compared to the Eurythmics' venerable "Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves," which features the truly powerful voices of Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin. Most of the soundtrack's best songs are at least four or five years old; the Deluxx Folk Implosion's winning cover of "I'm Just a Bill" from Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks adds some much-needed wit and irony to the movie's legislation-based plot, while John Lennon's "Power to the People" brings a party to the revolution. Lou Reed's "America" is an unexpectedly hip choice; the Candyskins' cover of "For What It's Worth" is just plain unexpected, and not in a good way -- their blas? delivery robs the song of any energy or bite. Fans of the movie might enjoy the soundtrack, but Legally Blonde 2 doesn't offer much to anyone else. ~ Heather Phares
