Most of these tracks were several years old by the time they were released. They're still potent, however, albeit somewhat haphazardly produced, and showcase Eightball during his underground years, shortly before he became more well known. Though Lay It Down doesn't quite compare to Eightball's other solo albums, it's nonetheless a quality collection of vault recordings that completists should savor. ~ Jason Birchmeier | | These tracks, recorded for Tony Draper's Suave House label, have been out before, circulated through the hip-hop underground (mostly in the South) as hot items. Now made available again here, the rest of the nation is given the chance to catch up on what it's been missing. More mainstream hip-hop fans might be most familiar with EIghtball through the work he's done as a duo with MJG, but these tracks show that this MC's strength as a major player in the Southern hip-hop underground scene is not to be denied. |
