 Editor's Note
ALLY McBEAL creator David E. Kelley wrote and produced this smalltown horror comedy with equal parts laughs and gore. When scientists studying beavers in a Maine lake are killed by something mysterious in the water, an investigation reveals a very large crocodile with an insatiable appetite. The cast of characters sent in to try to catch the murderous beast includes a game warden (Bill Pullman), a scientist (Bridget Fonda), and a professor with a fondness for the scaly beasts (Oliver Platt). Betty White is an elderly local woman who has a knack for disarming everyone with her saucy language.

5 of 5 A New Meaning To 'Pond Scum Criters' Monday, January 31, 2000 nick from providence, RI
If you enjoy such movies with suspicious wildlife tragedies and outdoor adventure, you'll find Lake Placid to be entertaining. I would compare it to movies like The Edge and Jaws--obviously in this case it's a reptile villian vs. a fish or bear, but similiar situations. It also has a humurous twist to it that increases it's entertainment value. Also this movie is great on special effects! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 This was a great thriller!! Sunday, January 30, 2000 pooneatr from Hayden Lake, ID
This movie was done well & had a good funny script. Thanks to my brother Phil I got to see this movie at his pad in Dolby Digital. And like I said, it is a great movie to watch at night up LOUD. Bravo to the computer animators. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 It's the Scream of man-eating animal movies Monday, January 24, 2000 jemwilli from Bloomington, Indiana
This movie was hip and funny. It brilliantly does to Jaws type movies what Scream did to slasher flicks. This is the Jaws for the next generation. The characters are stereotypical of this genre, but the actors assume each of the roles flawlessly Was this review helpful?
