4 of 5 Does what you need for the right price Tuesday, July 07, 2009 A Customer from Beaverton, OR
I have had this device for about 6 months. I had my first system crash about 2 weeks ago. The Hipserv Mirror program saved my life. I was able to restore pictures, tax files and email from this NAS drive.
The price is great the only small issue is access speed over the network. Seems a bit on the slow side but it does everything I need for the right prices, overall I would say "Get this!" It may save your data one day. Plus having secure web access to photo's is nice! Was this review helpful?

I have to say this is an amazing product for this price. Once you set it up initially ( you might need to have at least a working knowledge of tcp/ip and router / port configuration) , it works flawlessly. I now have moved my 30 gb mp3 collection from a media computer onto this device and no longer have to have my computer on to access anything. I can stream my music to my xbox360, laptops, etc. as it sets itself up as a media connect server on your network, just like a normal pc would. It allows a general family shared area and also individual shares for each user you add for personal files. this is great if you have some pictures or music you dont want everyone to have access to and some you do. one of the greatest things is that you can actually log into it from the internet and it has a great interface that lets you access your files and even upload new ones remotely. that alone is worth the price as you just got yourself an ftp server with no computer to run! works very fast, too Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 easy set up / a couple of streaming issues Friday, May 30, 2008 A Customer from East Nantmeal, PA
Very easy to set up. Took a few minutes. Works pretty much as advertised. I have 2 macs (mini running Tiger and iMac running Leopard). Have had issues with the Mini and streaming media to it. Keep getting an error message. iTunes "sees" the LaCie but cannot play the media. No problem with Leopard or either machine when you navigate to the media and select it. iTunes loads and plays selection. Have started a support ticket with LaCie to resolve the Tiger OS issue. 4 of 5 Good Value, would buy Again......... Friday, April 25, 2008 J.J. from VA.
This unit works as advertised, however it is slow with larger files. I personally have not found a way to use the unit offline. The pre-loaded folders names can't be changed, and folders can be added as sub folders but not primary folders.
Now, it's excellent as a networked drive, it is available to all users who have the password. And makes the network feel complete. I just wish there were a way to access the unit without having to be connected to the net. Was this review helpful?

First, be aware that the "Ethernet Disk Mini Home Edition" and "Etherenet Disk Mini" are different products with different features. This is a review for the Home Edition. It works very well for me, although a little slow when accessed through the web interface.
After opening the necessary ports in my DSL router, I had to reboot the whole setup (edminihome, dsl, router) a few times before things worked. Not sure if that is needed, or if it just took some time for things to propagate through.
When you ask it to share a folder through the internet, it emails the receipient an URL pointing to the shared folder. The URL contains a long random string (I guess it's some kind of a cookie), but no password is required to sign in. So anybody who gets a copy of that URL (eg. if the email is forwarded to someone else) will have access to the shared folder, and I don't see a way to log who are actually accessing the files.
You CAN plug in multiple USB drives into the edminihome using a usb hub, and they are all visible to the edminihome. However you can select only one of them at any time to serve as MySafe. The remaining USB drives will be dormant. When selected as MySafe, the USB drive can be accessed through the web interface, but cannot be mounted as a network drive (FamilyLibrary, MyLibrary, and MyBackup can each be mounted as a network drive).

4 of 5 Few problems, but overall fine Tuesday, February 26, 2008 Chandra from San Jose, CA
With my 2Wire Homegateway (DSL router & wireless router) I was not able to successfully get it to work for remote access. I had to buy a Netgear wireless router (UPnP capable) to connect it. The included software works fine but still the performance is not what I expected. The web interface is helpful for remote access and works fine. The product casing and design is excellent. Overall a good product for the price paid. Was this review helpful?
