5 of 5 Works great for me Thursday, January 24, 2008 Tony from Philadelphia
After I connected it to network (I have a router that's also a DHCP server) and turned it on, in a browser I've typed in http://edmini/cgi-bin/public/sharelist with user=admin and pass=admin (it's in an image in their quick install guide) and moved on from there. I mapped the drive to all my network computers and then added my music and photos by drag and drop.
I did not use any of the software included so I cannot attest to how good the soft is.
It's pretty quiet and I like the aluminum enclosure - it's sturdy and dissipates heat just fine. Was this review helpful?

Main Complaints:
1) Can't drag-drop files from Vista to this drive network mounted. I contacted support and I got: "Our product simply does not support the extended attributes. You will need to contact Microsoft to find a workaround to make their OS enforce strict Unix semantics"... Yeah, right!
2) The admin interface is horribly slow... I mean nearly 20 seconds to download a 20KB HTML page. I contacted support and I got: "Do you have the unit connected to a gigabit network or a 10/100 network?"... ummm... that'll make a difference on a 20KB file? NO! I sniffed the traffic, the device simply feeds the pages out extremely slowly. Makes me question what data rates I'm getting from that "Gig-E i/f" (haven't tested that).
3) The drive never spins down when idle, and no configuration option to make it do so. I contacted support and I got: "the drive won't spin down by design. If you aren't wanting the drive to stay on, you will have to power it down"... That's very inconvenient, but that's what I do.
Minor Complaint:
i) It's a bit loud. Not horrible, but certainly not quiet. If it spun down when idle, I'd forgive it.
What I do like:
A) It's in a nice case
B) The price
C) Fast/easy setup
Net: I'm afraid it's going back if support remains as unhelpful on 1) above. 2) and 3) and i) I can live with if I have to. I really *wanted* to like this drive. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Can't get any better Wednesday, December 12, 2007 Don from Houston, TX

4 of 5 Great Network DRIVE Thursday, November 29, 2007 James from New York
Very easy to set up on a network. Cross platform compatible. Great way to SHARE files such as data, video, and photos with the rest of the family. Reliable backup use. Very versatile drive. I love it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Product Thursday, November 29, 2007 Rich from New Bedford, MA
This is my second NAS Product and it is great (much better than the first). The web interface allows set up without having to install any software. It's ability to do afp, smb, ftp, etc. makes it easy to use from both my Mac's and PC's. The ability to create accounts and give different access to different accounts makes securing it very simple. The web interface could be a bit more user friendly. It's not really obvious what is "clickable" on the interface. Otherwise, it is a great product. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Too slow and Bad support Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from San Diego, California
This hard drive looks good and seems built well, but it was very hard to set up. Also, when your internet is down you can't get your files. That is pretty scary. The technical support for this drive is really pathetic. They respond only through email, and usually it takes a few days. The drive has gotten a little faster once I replaced my router. That really did make a difference. I guess the next version of this drive has better features for getting your files from the internet. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Terrible product Sunday, August 26, 2007 A Customer from NY, NY
This product purports to have 480MB/s or 60Mbs transfer rates, but only has 1.9 Mbps... that means that after 5 HOURS of backing up the drive has still only backed up 20GB from your master drive. Ridiculously slow. I have a 3-year old mounting bay for a smaller drive that operates multiple times faster.
As for the software, it is clunky and not easy to use. The "One-touch" feature is just marking B/S. Don not buy this product. I am returning mine. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works Great Sunday, August 12, 2007 John from Lake Forest Calif
This is the second LaCie external drive I have purchased. I am very happy with this purchase and plan to purchase another.
Configuration is a little slow but once it is setup it works great with both my Mac and PC. I backed up over 100 gig from my Mac without a hickup and the drive stayed cool. After switching to large packet size on both the Mac and Lacie I am getting quicker backup times. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good NAS for simple security Sunday, August 05, 2007 A Customer from Covington, Louisiana
Great, cheap add on storage for non critical data. Added a LaCie NAS drive to 2 of my client’s networks for non critical data sharing/storage until we upgrade the servers and backup systems. I added 2 of these drives to each network and configured one for backup of the main one every weekend through a PC on the network. Easy setup for a tech if security is not an issue. Each user account must be setup on the drive so I just created one account on the drive and enter that username & password the first time each user logs in through Windows XP and check the remember box. I had to create an account matching the Windows username & password for a couple of Windows 98 users as 98 doesn’t give you the “login using” dialog box. Not a server but a very nice extra storage device. Was this review helpful?

Exceptionally easy and fast setup. Far better and easier to use this product than an internal or external drive shared over the network. No boot-up time. Lots of great extra options still have not yet tried but excited about for future use. Easy storage access for all users in a small office. Was this review helpful?

Fast, great price, and definitely worth investing into. Screw buying a 1TB NAS, just buy two of these and you'll be set. Significant cost savings. and way better than gettin a USB 2.0 drive. having a nas in the house with mutiple users..this is the ideal product to have. Was this review helpful?
