5 of 5 Great for Mac Saturday, February 21, 2009
    Sean from Ohio

This product works absolutely seamlessly with Mac. I simply connected it via Firewire 800 to my iMac running Leopard and the drive showed up and Time Machine recognized it automatically. I turned on the sharing function of the hard drive and it popped up on my MacBook on my wireless network (and Time Machine works over Ethernet too). No complaints

5 of 5 Big, fast and quiet Tuesday, October 14, 2008
    A Customer from Wheaton, Il
I picked up two of these drives and have been using them for about a month now on my aluminum iMac. The drives come with the all the connection cables you'll need regardless of which connectivity option you choose. (that's worth $50.00 alone!) These drives are very quiet (more quiet than my idle printer!), super fast using the Firewire 800 ports, and at 1TB each... well, I'm not lacking for drive space. They are everything I needed in an external hard drive. To make them work for Time Machine, I did need to reformat the drives to Mac OS Extended Journaled but other than that, I had no 'setup' to do and am not using any of the included software. All in all, I heartily recommend the LaCie Big Disk Extreme+ external drives. A great value for the money.

    5 of 5 Awesome backup!! Wednesday, October 01, 2008
    bronxer from Bronx, NY
I am using it on a Macbook. I did not use the provided software but instead used SuperDuper backup software. My Macbook has a Firewire 400 port - not the fastest Firewire 800 that's available on the LaCie. So I started the backup of my entire hard drive - approximately 50 Gigs - it took less than 2 hours!! Very nice backup. Well built and easy to use. Highly Recommended. Also, thanks to BUY.COM - for a super fast delivery. I was expecting it in 5-7 days and it arrived in 3!! Awesome price too!!

5 of 5 LaCie Hard Drives - Versatile and Simple to Use Saturday, September 13, 2008
    Mike from Alexandria, VA
I have used several different brands of external hard drives, but none are easier to use and more versatile - in terms of interface (USB and Firewire) than LaCie.

4 of 5 Good but High Electrical "Ghost Load" Friday, September 05, 2008
    A Customer from Williamsport PA
I like it but the transformer that powers it is always hot--even when it's inactive. And that goes for all the LaCie hard drives I've gotten.

    5 of 5 Great Drive! Monday, August 25, 2008
    A Customer from Chicago, IL
LaCie roCks. Great drive for the money, worth every penny. Only problem was that my windows machine didn't like the button (installer disc didn't have windows install files) but went to lacie's website, downloaded the driver and it works fine now. I use this with macdrive on my windows machine and with a macbook and a G5. Great for moving audio projects between systems, and have a partition for time machine to back up my laptop. Highly recommended for all uses, as I put this drive to work for multiple uses and it's great!

    4 of 5 RAID 0 Buyer Beware Sunday, August 24, 2008
that's going to leave a mark... from Kansas City, MO
Don't get me wrong, LaCie makes good hard drives, whoever's innards they are. I just sent one off for a $1,500.00 Data Recovery, and found that my 1TB LaCie actually had two 500 MB Seagate drives. It seems that Lacie doesn't make the actual drives, just the pretty packaging. I lost the data because I was stupid, and didn't backup as a rule. I was even dumber because I didn't back immediately when the drive started to making noises after I dropped it off my desk. It stumbled on for a couple more days before it quit working. To make matters worse, these particular LaCie's are RAID-ZERO connected. Which means there's no redundancy, a.k.a. no backup, a.k.a. up the creek w/o a paddle if something happens. I hear LaCie also makes a nice RAID-ONE, which uses two mirrored disks to back up it's data. Something to consider.

5 of 5 Made for Mac Wednesday, August 20, 2008
    Doc from Menomonie, WI
I purchased the LaCie external hard drive for my iMac. It is a perfect match. Everything you need is contained in the box with the drive. It was a simple matter of attaching the drive via the included firewire 800 cable, plugging it in to the power source and starting it up. My iMac identified the drive immediately and it has been working flawlessly for the past two weeks. I am transferring video files from two older external drives and storing my newly completed files. The service was exceptional and I will definitely by LaCie from Buy.com in the future

I've only had this product for a few weeks, but so far, it's working great. Lacie has always made a great product, so there's no doubt this hard drive will continue to perform as expected.

1 of 5 Failed to format correctly on Windows XP Wednesday, July 30, 2008
    A Customer from Seattle, WA
Pretty frustrated: bought harddrive, went to Disk Management, it saw the drive, hit format, and 1/2 hour later, after it was done formatting, Windows couldn't see the drive. Returned to buy.com and getting another one; hope the next one works.

    5 of 5 Lacie 1TB Hard drive Saturday, July 12, 2008
    mikebike125 from Charlotte, NC
Write a review on the Lacie? I forgot I even bought it! I pulled it out of the box, plugged it in and that was it. It has been backing up my iMac since I got it without a peep! It works perfectly right out of the box. I previously had bought a WD hard drive from Costco and it wasn't recognized by my firewire. I returned two WD drives and bought this Lace and never looked back. This is a fine drive and I am very happy I bought it. PLUS it has it's own cooling fan and turns off when the iMac goes to sleep. The case is aluminum and very robust compared to the WD MyBook plastic case. I was afraid that one would crack on me not a chance with the Lacie.

5 of 5 LaCie Looms Large for MAC users Monday, June 23, 2008
Dumb Video Guy from Kansas City, MO
Me dumb video guy. I mostly work with high-def video in Final Cut. The LaCie's reasonably fast FireWire800 connection and 7200 rpm disk speed are helping me stay relatively sane. I haven't had a hard-drive related "episode" since I switched. For fellow MAC users -- LaCie's are ready to go as soon as you plug them in. And being technology challenged... it's hard to put a price on not having to fuss or format. The slight up lag caused by LaCie's power saving shutoff feature is mildly annoying. Especially when I'm getting crushed by a deadline. But on the whole I recommend the FireWire800 triple interface line to anyone who needs obscene amounts of storage at friendly prices.

    5 of 5 excellent Friday, May 23, 2008
    yanti from New York
My husband loved it, it small and cute but little bit heavy, so far it work very well with his iMac and my Macbook. We use it as a back up for all our files and we use it wirelessly. Excellent buy, with a great price can't beat that.

    5 of 5 All good Sunday, May 18, 2008
    James from MA
Quiet and cool, with the least annoying light of any external hard drive I have ever owned. Like it so much I bought another 500 gb one a couple days ago. Hooked it up to my Mac and it just worked... which is the way I like it.

    5 of 5 Reliable Sunday, May 18, 2008
    JCS from Utica, NY
I have only had this hard drive for a few weeks, yet not only does it work flawlessly but it seems so much more reliable and robust than my WD My Book 500Gb drive that I have been using. When I bought this I also considered a G-Tech, but the price was twice as much. Maybe someday I will regret the decision, but right now I think that I made the right one. I use this for working on a film project that I am creating in Final Cut Pro.

    5 of 5 Very reliable Monday, May 12, 2008
    A Customer from Seattle, WA
I bought my first unit about 6 months ago and it has been extremely reliable. Buying a second one was not a hard decision to make. I use these with a Mac (10.4) and I have not had any problems whatsoever. I highly recommend this model and will probably purchase more for my other computers.

5 of 5 Lacie 1 TB triple interface external hard drive Monday, March 17, 2008
    rossx6 from los angeles, ca
When it comes to Mac, LaCie is simply the best. Not only do I NOT have to mess with formatting of any kind because they come pre-formatted for Mac, but this baby also comes with an 800 firewire connection to take advantage of that speed on Macs that have it. I've also found with less expensive brands not formatted for Mac that they tend to crash over time, or have compatibility issues over time. I now have 5 Lacie external drives, and they just last longer and work better. Also buy.com is ships with fantastic turn-around. They usually get your item in the mail the day you order it. Love it!

5 of 5 Great External Hard Drive! Saturday, February 16, 2008
    normomy from Pennsburg, PA
This is my 5th LaCie. Plug and play is just that - plug and play. Very quiet drive. I have a G5 and I have 3 other 250G LaCies daisy-chained (used for large graphic files and music) and am using this as primary backup for my system. I love that all 3 connection type cables are included. The bundled software was a plus too. Right now I am using it with Firewire 800 but you never know when you may need to switch connections. I am very pleased with this drive and the price and will probably stick with LaCie. I will add that my service from Buy.com was excellent.

5 of 5 Excellent PowerBook Drive Wednesday, January 30, 2008
    A Customer from Seattle, WA
This is the 5th copy of this drive that I have bought and it's just as excellent as the other ones it's now daisy chained into! PowerBook G4's (mostly) have FireWire 800 capability, and it shows, this thing is lightning fast, very quite compared to the drives with fans, and I've never had any problems. I'll get another one once this one fills up!

    robvic112 from Sunnyside, wa
buy.com is wonderful in the 5 orders i have placed everything arrived as ordered, now on to the lacie 1tb hard drive, this thing has an insane amount of useable space. instalation was a breeze once i used the instructions included on the cd-rom, it does make a a little noise when its reading the drive, other than that its very quiet there is no cooling fan noise what so ever, its also nice that they include a cable for each connection type. the power cord is built very well. like i said i would buy it again in a heartbeat.

5 of 5 Problem installing Driver Tuesday, January 15, 2008
    kewlraul22 from Tampa, FL
I just purchased my 15th Lacie Big Disk and am somewhat satisfied. Up until the last three hard drives the drives themselves are excellent in every aspect. The last two I bought were Lacie Quadra drives, both 500GB. I'm still having an issue where the computer loses the drive and connects the drive again and asks to install drivers for that drive. Same problem with the newest drive I just purchased which is a Lacie Big Disk Extreme 1TB. LaCie assures me that it should have no problem but no solution. I run Windows XP pro SP2 on all machines but one which has Windows Vista Home Premium. Still have the issue prompting me to install drivers. Anyone else having a problem with this?

    4 of 5 Roomy drive Sunday, December 30, 2007
    A Customer from Manalapan NJ
My first purchase of a LaCie drive. I usually buy Maxtor and Western Digital. I needed a large external drive to expand storage for my iMac computer which holds photos and videos. The drive comes formatted as HFS+ for Mac OSX which was perfect for me. Windows users will need to reformat it. The triple interface allows USB2, Firewire 400, or Firewire 800. My iMac only supports Firewire 400, but this seems plenty fast when iPhoto and iTunes load. Overall I am happy with the drive. Two complaints though: (1) Its fan noise is noticeable, but not overly loud. (Louder than the iMac). (2) The initial drive spin up time is noticeable as well.

    5 of 5 LaCie Big Disk Extreme - 1TB Tuesday, December 04, 2007
afyanke from Panama City beach, FL 32411
Excellent product. I upgraded my iMac OS to Leopard and needed a larger drive to do the continual backup which is part of the new OS. I already had a 500GB LaCie and was comfortable with it. The new one performs just as well.

5 of 5 No surprises - which is just what I wanted Friday, November 30, 2007
    redptc from Seattle, WA
I usually assemble my own external drives but this was too good a deal to pass up. I've had my drive for about 3 weeks and so far it has worked flawlessly with one exception. When using LaCie's free SilverKeeper backup software for nightly scheduled backups it usually (but not always) fails to locate the drive, even though it is always left on and mounted. I believe this is a software problem since I have had no other problems with accessing the drive. I haven't tried the other backup software that comes with the drive yet. I'm running Mac OS X 10.4 by the way. I will probably purchase another identical unit soon as this one is almost filled up. I see the price has already dropped another $5 since I bought mine.

    envirodiver from Cos Cob, CT
I have been using Lacie Hard Drives for five years and now have purchased the large 1trb triple interface drive. As with my other 6 drives this one setrs up quickly, runs smoothly and quietly, and provides the storage capacity I need for video files while I edit and store the media..

    4 of 5 Noisier than I expected Thursday, November 29, 2007
Greg Raven from Apple Valley, CA
Before upgrading to Mac OS X Leopard, I wanted a big drive to serve as my Time Machine volume, and this seemed like the best candidate for the money. Also, a friend has a 250 GB LaCie drive that is so quiet you can't even tell it's working. This disk is well built, as LaCie drives are, but it's MUCH noisier than my friend's LaCie drive. Instead of having it on my desktop, I had to fashion a sound-deadened area beneath my desk so the disk sounds don't drive my wife out of the office. The SilverKeeper backup software is pretty nice, and much faster than my previous method of backing up, but of course I'm now using Time Machine for my backups. If it weren't for the noise issue, I'd be extremely pleased with this drive.
