4 of 5 Lacie 750 gb ext. harddrive Monday, March 23, 2009
Lee from Pickerington, Ohio

I think it is a reliable harddrive, however once you do initial backup it appears to backup another full set of files instead of backing up what has been changed only.

5 of 5 GREAT Buy/Investment Tuesday, March 17, 2009
A Customer from New York, NY
This is a great and easy to use product, this coming from a non tech-savvy person :) It's quiet and actually smaller than what it seems. Transferring files is a breeze! It's quiet and the ambient blue light is soothing lol I would recommend this product, for the price and space it offers -- great deal :)

5 of 5 Great in all ways Monday, March 16, 2009
singproinc from Dallas, TX
I use this as a "Time Machine" backup for my MacBook laptop. Everything about it is great; small, quiet, plug it in, turn it on, it works. Great price, and I actually like having a short cable. I have a drawer full of 6' USB cables, and I really prefer this short one for what I'm doing.

5 of 5 Buy-worthy ext. USB hdd, indeed Saturday, March 14, 2009
CopacetiCustomer from Westfield, TX
The design is simple enough to fit into any decor (home, office, etc.). The 750 GB (maybe 715 to 735 usable) space is a definite necessity in this day & age, PLUS it's smaller than either my 500 gig BUFFALO or 250 gig WD USB/FW combo. There's some minor noise when out of use, but I rarely power-cycle the unit 1/2x a week. Though I read of dissapating heat issues, I have yet to experience any (drive is almost 3 months old). If there WAS a downside, it would be that I saw its younger cousin (the 1 TB model) for about 10 to 15 bucks more, a couple of weeks later. Blame THAT on Buy.com & tech progress, though!

5 of 5 great buy Saturday, March 14, 2009
A Customer from Sacramento,
this is a very quiet, fast and good looking external hard drive. Not a well known name from my perspective so you should get some good deals on a great hard drive. My only problem was not downloading by file instead of a group download. Maybe some better instructions for us using external hard drives for the first time users. So far, everything else is as advertised.

5 of 5 Simply the BEST!! Monday, March 09, 2009

I bought this to extend my recording capabilities for my Dish Network DVR. Plug and play. soooo easy!! Fast, quiet and great looking. I had to use a longer USB cable which I had anyway.

5 of 5 LaCie drive Sunday, February 15, 2009
A Customer from Cape Cod, MA
LaCie makes flawless, dependable drives. I recommend them to all of my friends and students. This is my second LaCie drive. My first is still working strong after 3 years and 1000's of hours of use for back-up and storage.

5 of 5 superb Thursday, January 08, 2009
A Customer from King of Prussia PA
great purchase. i've had this unit for a week already, and it's been working amazing so far. formatted to FAT32, and therefore takes a while to read on my mac, but that's expected. reads perfect on my pcs and ps3. sleek design. blue light is neat, but can't be turned off, so may bother some. usb cable is ridiculously short, but not expensive to buy a longer 3rd party cable. incredibly fast shipping, chose standard shipping, received 2 days after placing order.

5 of 5 Great Hard drive Tuesday, January 06, 2009
The Don from Washington, DC
I'm not quite sure where all the bad reviews come from regarding this drive. I have only used Lacie externals in the past and with this purchase, I will continue to do so. Fast, plug and play on my mac and the only downfall is the cable size. however, a quick trip to monoprice and you are set.

5 of 5 Great Backup Device Tuesday, October 14, 2008
Bill from Hollis,NH
I could not be happier with the LaCie 750 GB backup device. It looks "sharp" and 750 GB is more space than all my current computers together,so no fear of not having enough space. My current Video camera uses SD cards for storage, so I have space for unlimited videos. Thanks Buy.com...another great product at a great price.

5 of 5 Cheap,Easy.Fast Saturday, October 11, 2008
A Customer from Lisbon, New York
I had never heard of the brand until I looked at this drive. Sleek, simple to use, and affordable with a great capacity. True plug-n-play, no hassle set-up makes it worth it. Only minor issue is that after transferring several large files the drive tended to heat up but only a little, as well as the small USB cable that is included should be longer.

5 of 5 So Far So Good Wednesday, October 01, 2008
GodIsABuddhist from Blacksburg, VA
It arrived fast and was up and running within minutes of turning it on. I elevate it somewhat to allow the fan better access to cool off because it can run hot. The USB cord is ridiculously short but that is easily remedied by substituting with a longer one. The price was unbeatable. The look and feel and weight it also top notch. So far nothing bad...but it is a piece of tech so who knows

5 of 5 Slick design! Saturday, September 13, 2008
Churu from Pharr, TX
LaCie HDDs stand for great quality and performance. I've purchased a 250 model and just as this model (750) I just got what I expected: a great product at a great price. The design is slick and stylish (although that has nothing to do with performance).

4 of 5 Good performance Friday, September 05, 2008
roberts292 from lansing, IL
The LaCie USB Hard drive performs will with my Macbook when plugged directly into the USB port, however, I am still having issues getting it to work with my ariport extreme and time Machine, perhaps it is my fault, but it's not as easy as 'plug it in and it works' like it is supposed to. I would like it better if it turned itself off when not in use, but that is a feature it did not come with. Overall, it has worked fine for the past two weeks with no major issues.

5 of 5 Form & Function Sunday, August 31, 2008
A Customer from Houston, TX
Reason for purchase: I have to admit I was very attracted by the look of the unit. I have HDCP system. So was essential that form and function would work. I have my HDCP multimedia system. Pros: I was concern that many of the large files would not play well over a USB-2 connection. I was thinking over the bottleneck of the USB. It was not too bad, certiainly slower than my SATA II-300, but nonetheless, certain performed well enough to play back movies in full form. Cons: The LaCie software is meant to help set-up; however I found it be a bit annoying and cumbersome. Overall: For the price money well spent, performance was good enough for large multimedia play back.

5 of 5 LaCie External HD Tuesday, July 08, 2008
Dennis from Paso Robles, California
It took a while for Buy.com to restock this item, but, it was well worth the wait. It performs flawlessly, silently. I had previously purchased another, smaller LaCie HD, and recognized the quality, and reliability of their products. To me, it was money well spent. I should mention that the installation procedure on my Windows XP computer required minimal effort - real "plug & play."

3 of 5 The LaCie 698 Gig Hard Drive Saturday, June 21, 2008
Reese from San Francisco
I received it in 2 days which is great, with the free shipping, i didn't expect until the following week. upon plugging it in and seeing only 698 gigs unused, i thought, well someone forgot put some memory in this. after calling the number on the info card,i was told that the 750 gig hd was only 698 gigs. i can see the drive using 10 even 20 but 52. i'm keeping it cause it's so beautiful and it works sooo fast. i have several other HDs from other manufacturers but since DJ Sasha uses these to back up his music, i figured that was good enough for me. i will get another one ;) so other than the loss of 52 gigs, it's a great, and great looking hard drive. this is my second LaCie. i have the terra w/firewire and that works fantastic aswell.

5 of 5 Sytlish but the first drive was defective Sunday, June 15, 2008
aecatania from Buffalo Grove, IL
This is a very good looking drive -- sleek, black with a cylon-type bluelight appearing on the desktop just in front of the drive. The first drive sent by Buy.Com clattered when accessed and I wrote to LaCie. Without too much trouble they sent a brand new replacement and a shipping label to mail back the defective drive. I have the new drive installed and it works perfectly.

4 of 5 Stylish and does it's job. Saturday, June 07, 2008
A Customer from San jose, California
Got this as a pretty good deal. I've had it for about a month so far as it's been running pretty good. It gets pretty hot because it's fanless, but I raised it up so there is better air flow at the bottom so it's fine. It's a little noisy when you are transferring data to it, it clicks a little bit. Hopefully this will last and I wont lose my data.

5 of 5 Impressive look, solid tech Wednesday, May 28, 2008
GT from Elkhorn, WI
I am an IT professional and investigated many options before selecting this economical solution. I am building an entertainment file server with 10+ Tbytes of these disks, so I hope they hold up. I will post my results later this year (2008) when I've actually had a chance to put them through their paces.

The drive works great. Had it about a month now, no problems. It was preformated for xp so you just plug it in, register and away you go. I would buy another one if I needed it. A great drive at a good price.

4 of 5 Not perfect for Macs Tuesday, May 27, 2008
Simon from New York
Mine doesn't power down unless it is physically turned off. I think this has something to do with the chipsets they use. In the past all of my LaCie drives have powered down when not in use, so I find this kind of annoying. I don't want any drive spinning 24/7 other than the main system drive. Another tiny niggle. LaCie haven't bothered designing a nice icon for your Mac desktop with this drive. You just get the logo, which looks a bit crappy. I know these are minor points, but you pay the little extra with LaCie for these little details. Other than these it is an exemplary drive and looks beautiful.

3 of 5 Got cheap, but could be issues down the road. Monday, May 26, 2008
Patrick Hunter from Norwalk, CT
This drive works fine, and it was a really good deal from buy.com when I bought it. That said, there are a few things that really annoy me about this drive because Lacie is supposed to be a premium manufacturer, and yet they overlook these details. One: The included usb cable is really short, like 1.5 feet. I've got two other externals and that really limits the places I can put the drive relative to my computer. I mean, would it really be that expensive to just package in a 3 ft. cable instead? gripe #2: the heat dissipation leaves a lot to be desired. In other words, this drive gets pretty hot. I tend to rest it on its side or upside down because the vents are on the bottom, and these orientations do a lot to keep the drive cool... but its inconvenient to have to do that... if the enclosure had a fan, it'd be fine, but it doesn't, so I would recommend orienting the drive on its side or upside down when in use. Grip #3: the transfer speeds that show up in Vista are total BS. I would blame Vista, but seeing as how mt other drives don't do this I'm pretty sure its this drive causing the trouble. For instance, I was transferring a 4gb file to it, and the transfer window claimed that the file was being transferred at 67 MB/s. BS!!! USB is "capable" of a maximum of 480 Mb/s, which translates to 60 MB/s, and the fastest speed I ever got out of an external was 33MB/s. What happens with this drive is that the transfer screams at ridiculous speeds and then freezes for a while at the end; I timed a transfer and it was 24 MB/s, which is actually the slowest drive I have by 6 MB/s! wtf? The drive will hold a lot but something thats supposed to be a premium product (and has a premium pricetag) shouldn't have the issues I mention. in my opinion. I'll be wary of lacie from now on, WD is what I'll buy next time.

5 of 5 Great Drive for the price Monday, May 26, 2008
Lucy from Cheyenne, WY
Really good design and quality for this drive. We use it as an additional drive for our DVR. It looks great in the living room next to the DVR receiver and the surround sound receiver. I own another more expensive external drive and I actually like this one better. It is quiet, looks good, works great, and such a good value. We really couldn't ask for more.

5 of 5 5 Monday, May 26, 2008
Richard from Riverside, CA
What do you say about a hard drive? It works or it doesn't...it is noisy or it isn't..it has the capacity they said...or not. 698 GIG available, works fine, and i haven't noticed any noise...but my computer room isn't the quietist so I may not have noticed if it is contributing or not... Until it breaks or starts to have connection problems I guess I have to give it a 5. I use it with images for storage and it has adequate access speed.

2 of 5 Will not buy another Lacie again! Monday, May 26, 2008
Sujit from Bowie, MD
The unit has gotten consistently corrupted when connected to a hub. Same problem with two different hubs. Every time, I had to reformat the disk several times. There are other drives (Seagate, Acomdata, IOgear) connected to the hub without any problem. The drive, however, appears to work if connected to the USB port directly. That is what the tech support recommended. I purchased this disk as a backup but I have no confidence in this drive.

4 of 5 Lacie 750GB External USB harddrive Sunday, May 25, 2008
A Customer from Seattle, WA
Awesome design and capacity at that price. Negative is that the drive gets extremely hot. Getting hot means that the drives passive cooling system is likely under designed and longevity is therefore likely reduced.

5 of 5 Good Looking, Good Price. Friday, May 16, 2008
A Customer from NJ
Nice sleek looking drive, works great (Except sometimes computer won't start up past the BIOS screen if it is already powered on - but mounts fine under plug and play (XP)). Great price and included disc utilities are easy to use and pre-loaded on the drive (although once you format the drive using the utility they are lost - don't know if there is a way to copy it off of the unformatted drive before that). Overall great product.

5 of 5 Good external drive Wednesday, May 14, 2008
A Customer from Manhattan
Fast performance, decent price and extremely attractive appearance. You wouldn't be embarrassed putting this thing next to your iMac, it is that well designed. It is quiet, works as specified and for an external drive, there isn't much more you'd want or expect.

1 of 5 Died within a week. Tuesday, May 13, 2008
A Customer from Chandler, Az
Had it up and running without issues, copied some virtual machine files to it and ran them, no issues. Powered the unit down after properly ejecting it from my Vista machine, carefully moved it to the other PC, would not power on. No lights, no indication of power at all. Waiting to hear from Lacie as to whether or not they can send me a new power supply to try or if I have to send it back to get what will likely be a refurbed unit in it's place. Won't be buying LaCie anything any more. Have 2 other different dead Lacie units here that are customer pieces that died in recent service and that makes it about 80% failure rate for the Lacie products I have worked with in the last few years.

4 of 5 Good Price for Size Saturday, May 10, 2008
A Customer from quincy
I bought this harddrive one week ago. It has a reasonable price for size and work fast enough. But it is noisy. You would not want to keep it open for data transfer and go to sleep. When harddrive write a data it creates a sound and also it has quite noisy fan too. But other than perfect.
