4 of 5 Hard driven. Wednesday, December 23, 2009
Jared from Oklahoma City, OK

I use this drive almost every day, mostly for storing my vast audio and video collection. I have been using it for over 10 months now and notice no huge problems. It did corrupt a couple of files a few months ago when I moved everything to a new place, but I think that might have been from the jostling and bumping of moving. Other than that, great hard drive. I would suggest it to anyone needing a lot more space. I reformatted it after arrival to FAT and use it on my Mac.

1 of 5 Think before you buying this drive Thursday, July 02, 2009
W from Upland, CA
This is very nice looking and cool external USB hard drive. But other then that, you should think twice before you get this one. I trust LaCie since more than 10 years ago, but I really disappoint at this time. I don't blame LaCie since the disk was made by Seagate. The one I got from Buy.com around 11/08, it had some hardware issue and it's dead by now. First, the drive had to go through LaCie's own configuration process to make the drive to work. After few month of using this drive. I heard some strange noise came out from the hard drive. One day the Windows XP pop "Windows-Delayed Write Failed". Contact LaCie tech support, they sent me a new power supply. Because their techy thought the drive wasn't spine fast enough for OS, it's caused by unreliable power source. But it doesn't work at all. Now, I have lots of data and LaCie doesn't response for any data lost. And I have to pay the shipping for service. One more thing, LaCie uses different power plug then most other brand(IO Gear, Fantom, Calvary,...since they have same volt and amp, I can share power supply between them). I have to carry it's own power supply all the time. Think before you buying this drive.

5 of 5 Great Product Thursday, June 25, 2009
Adam from Huntersville, North Carolina
In my search for external hard drives I came across this Lacie 1tb hard drive, It looks great and performs great. The speed over USB was a lot faster than other external hard drives. It is so quite, almost silent. It also stays cool even when writing files to the hard drive. The only thing I was a little upset about was that in the picture it shows a blue light under glow on the hard drive, but let me tell you that little blue light is so dim that you can't even see it with all the lights off. Other then the dim light which doesn't matter to much. The hard drive its self is great!

1 of 5 what do you need? Wednesday, June 03, 2009
holdin5aces from Tucson AZ
I bought this drive because it was advertised as having one touch back up software included. The LaCie Genie Assistant back up is a relabeled third party product that never worked. Worse, it locked up my PC. LaCie touts Hillsboro Ore based tech support. A half dozen emails or more and one phone call produced a result of 'see ya'. So while the drive maybe great, I bought it for a purpose that it won't serve. It does make a stylish platform for one of my collector toy motorcycles.

5 of 5 Overall a good value Thursday, April 09, 2009
JFine from Boston MA
I bought a few of these drives for external storage of media for a mac mini. They look great out on display, and fit right in with any media center. They do finger print and scratch if you are rough with them, but clean easily with a proper cloth (I use the cleaning cloth for my sunglasses, works great.) They are incredibly easy to format/use, and are very fast and quiet. For the money, a great buy. Just a warning, I have had some problems with these drives. If you try to sleep the drives along with the computer, they will not remount properly upon waking. I have 3, and all behave this way. Also, they sometimes become problematic when ejected/unplugged, and will not mount properly. It seems the only fix for this is to leave the drive plugged in and wait. They eventually do mount, sometimes after hours... I have lost data on the drives because of this problem. To remedy this, I either leave them on 24/7, or manually turn them off when not in use. Other than this small issue, the drives operate flawlessly.

4 of 5 Issues with sleeping Friday, March 27, 2009
A Customer from San Francisco, CA
On my iMac, this drive (USB model) does not correctly sleep and awake. After awaking there is a device removal error and the drive disappears from the desktop. My other external drives work fine. I'm not returning the drive because it is a good value, reasonably quiet, and otherwise performs well. I'll manually turn this drive on and eject when complete to avoid the problem.

5 of 5 I own 14 Lacie drives- they're Great! Wednesday, March 25, 2009
Mark from san diego, CA
I have been purchasing these drives since they were 250 gigs several years ago up until the recent 1TB drives. I use them exclusively with Mac systems- they are basically plug and play. Simply format them and off you go. I have purchased the USB drives and I'm very satisfied with the speed at which the info is accessed. I'm a professional photographer and I use them to store vast amounts of photos, and as the working drive I access to work on about 2000 RAW images at a time in Adobe Bridge. I use them in a pseudo "raid" system where I purchase these drives in pairs-- I do all my work for each job on one drive (while my CF cards still hold all the images) and then once I've done my editing and work I simply perform a Deja Vu backup to mirror the working drive on to the other. I have not had a single drive fail in the many years I've been using them. The fan can get a little noisy as they age, but I don't keep them all on at once. I have them all stacked and labeled and simply turn on the ones I need when I need to access older images. I have not used the Lacie back-up software that it comes with.

5 of 5 No complaints Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Truly plug n' play. A great deal from buy.com. With 1TB available I've backed up two machines and still have over 800GB free.

5 of 5 Great Drive Monday, March 16, 2009
Bleck from Atlanta, GA
Got this for a low price and the drive is great. Turned out to be a lot smaller than I imagined (which is a good thing) and looks very sleek sitting next to just about anything. I did my best not to get any fingerprints on it while setting it up. The blue light is just like the pictures. A small, minimal, blue light that projects a little in front of the bottom of the drive onto whatever the drive is sitting on. I'm thinking of getting a second one, not sure how well these stack though.

4 of 5 Sleek Looking but Noisy Monday, December 29, 2008
RGG from Herndon,Va
I always loved the Lacie Drives. I have been using one for past 3 years. They are always very sleek and light weight. Only problem is with their ports. I noticed the USB port was a little loose on mine. May be that's my unit. Apart from that I noticed a bit of noise when this drive runs. And it shuts down itself when overheated. But the size of the drive endears it to me. It looks really good next to my iMac and runs really good. I have been using for almost 4 months now.

4 of 5 Good product, easy to use, a little noisy... Monday, December 15, 2008
Rick from Santa Fe, NM
I like this product so far. It was easy to set up and use... My only concern is it makes quite a bit of clicking noise like the Hard Drive is working/thinking even when there is no copying being done and it is just sitting there... Doesn't sound "normal" to me.

5 of 5 Buy it Tuesday, December 09, 2008

I bought it, plugged it in, and was backing up everything I own in a matter of minutes. Quiet, sleek looking, and you can't beat the price for 1TB. Excellent.

5 of 5 Great product Wednesday, November 12, 2008
A Customer from Austin, TX
If you have a Mac and use Time Machine, this external hard drive is great. Handsome design and is extremely quiet. My only contention is the fact that you can't manually organize the storage space available from Mac to PC. That is, on start up you have two options of storage space (all on one computer or about 3/4 on one computer and 1/4 on another). Other than that I completely recommend this product. It is 1 TB so backing up multiple computers shouldn't be a problem!

5 of 5 Awesome!!! Saturday, October 04, 2008
MrE from Fresno, Ca
This product was literally plug-n-play straight out of the box! Great product, whisper quiet and lots of storage space of course. It's a very neat design, however it is quite the dust/fingerprint magnet. I love this product nonetheless.

5 of 5 Excellent Revision to the line Tuesday, September 30, 2008
A Customer from Greensboro, NC
We purchased several of these for backups, and were previously using the silver metal case versions from the same manufacturer. These are a definite improvement. The addition of a rocker-switch for power is welcome. The black case is stylish, but can scratch easily. The power connector style is a big improvement over previous versions. It is much easier to plug in and remove without wiggling or forcing.

5 of 5 Good Deal Wednesday, September 24, 2008
Charlie from Watauga, TX
This external drive has been a godsend. Freeing up my small onboard hard drive. What a difference. Going from a 70G internal to a 1TB external. Price was right and very easy to use, transfer to, all other aspects.

5 of 5 Very good back up drive Saturday, September 13, 2008
A Customer from Herndon,VA
I was always a fan of Lacie products. I am using a Lacie HDD from 4 years with out any problem except for the power adapter pins which used to break away very easily and I had to buy a new adapter. But this drive is good because it does not have that problem. I am using it with my iMac and all my movies and songs are now safe. It makes a little bit of noise but I have no problems with that. The Blue light is cool. And the seek time is pretty good. I have been using it for more than 3 weeks with out any problem. I hope it works for me like its predecessor did.

5 of 5 Please delete my last review Wednesday, September 03, 2008
A Customer from Silver Spring, MD
Please delete my last submitted review on this LACIE drive. Although the power supply problem and whine at startup issue is still there, the mounting problem was my mistake. The USB cable had not been connected. I will write a new review after I receive the new power supply

5 of 5 Quality Hard Drive! Friday, June 13, 2008
radcliffe.chris from Santa Monica, CA
I have to say this Lacie hard drive is the best i've ever owned! I'm pretty sure it only took me about 15 minutes to format 1TB of space, and transfer of data took even less time. I don't know what kind of alien technology they are putting into these things, but all I can say is KEEP IT UP. If I ever need another hard drive, its Lacie all the way for me. The Neil Poulton design is fantastic by the way.

5 of 5 Piece of cake! Sunday, May 11, 2008
Shoregeek from Lewes, DE
This little unit doesn't get hot at all, transfers nice and fast, and works well for both Windoze and Mac OSX systems. I've used the Western Digital MyBook series for a while now, and overall I'd say this LaCie drive is MUCH better. Its a great buy!
