Thus, it's an entirely appropriate title for the major-label debut of these decidedly toxic troublemakers. | | While these heavy rockers churn out gut-wrenching guitar riffs, pounding drumbeats, and snarling vocals aplenty, they're far from humorless. The pulverizing effect of their sonic attack is undeniable, but they're essentially clowns at heart. This is discernible not only in their Kiss-in-the-21st century makeup, but also in the light-hearted sci-fi themes that crop up, as on the 2001-inspired "Monolith." And while Mudvayne charges fiercely enough to give any grindcore band a run for its money, they incorporate enough interesting electronic production touches to keep L.D. 50 from ever getting aurally monotonous. | Producer: Mudvayne; GGGarth; Mudvayne | Engineer: Dean Maher; Andre Wahl |

| | Professional Reviews | | Rolling Stone (9/28/00, pp.53-4) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...[Their] big songwriting device is the old Nirvana strategy: vulnerability in verses, ape-s*** aggression in choruses and a pregnant moment in between....The interesting thing is that they are fancy musicians..."Q (12/00, p.127) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...A clever amalgam of Korn, Tool and Mr. Bungle....the Slipknot you can actually listen to..." CMJ (9/11/00, p.34) - "...Futuristic aggro-metal....with electrifying samples and vats of bile fueling its songs..." Melody Maker (10/17/00, p.61) - 3.5 stars out of 5 - "...A slithering cesspit of fetid malignance, nu-metal documenting its own internal decay..." |

5 of 5 you were there like a punk, just to get in my face Friday, November 30, 2001 fondletheseballs from easthampton, connecticut
This album is the bomb and the s***
My major musical influences are Slipknot, taproot, coal chamber, fear factory, slayer and when i heard this cd. I added mudvayne straight to my list. If you listen to any metal bands, you better listen to this one. Everyone in the band is so skilled at what they do. the guitarist is amazing, i play the guitar in drop B tunning, and so does he. and everysong i know by them is fun to play, sounds great. the drummer is god on the double bass pedals, the bassist's hands move at 5000rpms. the singer can sing beatifully and can scream even better. You better get this album because im the mother f***ing superman with out the "S" on my chest. Was this review helpful?
