4 of 5 Good Value Wednesday, October 01, 2008 Bryan from Wichita, Kansas
This camera is just what we were hoping to find, one that can zoom and easy to use. We took pictures at a wedding, including some short video, with only two days to get acquainted with the camera and all of the pictures turned out great. I would recommend this camera to anyone who does not want to spend a lot of money and still get great pictures and zoom capability. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Kodak EasyShare Z712 7 Megapixel Digital Camera Wednesday, September 17, 2008 Brian from Mesquite Texas
This camera possibly the best I've ever had Great Priced camera, easy to use, excellent pictures, outstanding zoom, Not to bulky to carry everywhere. Would highly recommend it for all the features. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Exactly what I was looking for Tuesday, August 19, 2008 JZ from Seattle, Wa
Zoom was the # 1 feature for me. This was the best zoom/size of camera ratio out there at the time. Good pic quality, easy to use, and the settings on the click dial are pretty self explanatory. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The best camera Wednesday, July 30, 2008 Hector from Lake Worth,FL
After been using digital cameras for several years from different brands including Kodaks, this is so far the best one I have had.
The quality of pictures I am taking now are amazing.
It takes some time to learn how to use it properly but once you read the manual everything will be fine.
The feature I like the most on this camera is the panoramic pictures I can take now either with two or three pictures stiched together, the camera does it by itself,no need to use a sofisticated software anymore.
Kodak has made a great product this time as usual. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy to use Tuesday, April 01, 2008 A Customer from Columbus Ohio
I bought this for vacation and even though it has quite a few features it was very easy to use. This camera takes great pictures and is not to big and bulky. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best camera I've ever owned Thursday, February 28, 2008 Greg P from NJ
This is by far the best camera I have ever owned, would recommend it to anyone. I had a Kodak DX7590 previously also a good camera and this is the upgraded version. Best feature by far is the IS Imaage Stabilizer. I take pictures of some ornate scrollwork on the 30th floor of a building from a half a block away fully zoomed in optical + digital with my shaky hands and the picture is still razor sharp. It does only come with a regular battery no rechargeable but I bought this for the camera not the battery. Get the Li-Ion that Kodak makes or get at least a 1500mAh Li-Ion CRV3 battery/charger on Buy.com or ebay(~$15). Or pick up a Kodak Easyshare 3 Dock(~$35). I get 500+ pics from a charge. This camera is not its predecessors. It has NO SD card, no charger, no A/C adapter, a funky and incomplete manual and somewhat grainy LCD. I have no idea how to recharge these batteries or even IF they can be. On the plus side, it is recognized by the computer and the software is good for album handling (Picasa might be better) I've had to order a docking station and SD card so I am still out as far as a final rating. Bought this camera around 4 months back..and am totally satisified with this.
Pros- Gr8 price, excellent performance and pictures.
Cons- Make sure to buy Lion batteries-my rechargeable NiMH batteries hardly last 50 photos, takes some time to process image when clicked-thus greated lag between continuous pictures.. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 my big change to digital Tuesday, December 04, 2007 A Customer from dover delaware
I have shot beautiful pictures using film since the late seventies. I cannot believe the zoom power on this camera. I can take a hundred different views of the same scene and no developing cost. One thing, though. I have big fingers. Zoom button could be in a better place. I took 400 shots and used 2 batteries. Think about a charger. Would buy another one in a minute. 5 of 5 Excellent Camera Saturday, December 01, 2007 dlt1018 from HJ, NY
Great Price for a camera with some meat. Its not a thin, no weight camera. It takes great pictures, easy to use, great screen size, very worth the money. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great camera at a great price! Sunday, October 21, 2007 Lisa from Springfield, MA
This camera takes great pictures and is very easy to use. The pictures come out nice and clear and even the zoomed in images are not pixilated as I have noticed in other cameras that I have used. The image stabalization really helps.
As with most Kodak cameras, it is lightweight due to the plastic casing. The lense cover seems a bit loose but other than that it's been a great camera to use. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Easy to use and love the zoom Tuesday, September 25, 2007 A Customer from Seattle. Wa
The number one feature I was looking for was zoom. This has a great zoom (12X) and Image Stabilization which is a bonus. I have not tried all the shooting modes, but "auto" and "action" seemed to produce nice images. If you are a big proponenet of a clear LCD, you won't love this one as it is somewhat grainy, however, this is not a big deal to me. I believe this camera is still the best "bang for the buck" out there

5 of 5 Great Camera Tuesday, September 25, 2007 A Customer from East Canton, OH
I am well pleased with my new camera and enjoy using it. The pictures are great! I am also amazed at how long the lithium batteries have lasted. My old camera used twice as many and ate them like candy. I bought rechargeables to use when the ones that came with the camera die, but haven't needed them yet. Was this review helpful?

Everything was great except a couple of things, during zoom in/out it goes blurry, you will notice that during movie mode.
Also no rechargable battery or battery charger. Was this review helpful?

Most camera review sites, declare this to be a beginner camera with beginner results. WRONG! I have purchased, used and sold off canon, minolta, vivitar, hp and sony cameras because they took poor pictures.
I had horrible experiences with cameras that do not focus fast enough, which allows hand tremor or subject movement to be captured- THAT RUINS PICTURES and memories are lost forever! Or, they have poor color saturation and wimpy image sensors.
This camera has great color, superior optical glass, image stabilization and a very fast capture time. The chance of subject movement out of frame or blurring due to movement is now gone! Also, no more hand tremor messing up my shots.
I had a problem with not really hand tremor, but the ergomic design of all other tried compact digital cameras. They were too small. When I pressed the shutter release button, my hand was bigger/thicker than designed for and the camera would always move. The Kodak Z712IS is very well designed (sizable) but not too big to carry with you. It is smaller than a 35mm SLR to me. Sure, it will not fit in my pocket, but I get great pictures now.
Also, the settings wheel is easy to understand and scene changing is now intellectually effortless. The camera tells you what each scene is going to result in. All the other cameras made me read manual pages for hours and after learning what and where these settings were at, I had to teach them to my wife and kids. Kodak has made this so easy! My wife no longer asks what to set the camera at for a particular location/event.
My family always had a Kodak camera around while I was growing up. I had gone from an Advantix camera into digital format, myself, but went to other names first. My mistake...
I now realize that Kodak has been there all along in the digital world, and their "prodigal son" has returned to the fold! I will never switch to another digital camera brand again!
I am not a professional, but have a brother that is professional photographer and I have taken numerous college courses in photography, and I have always taken great photos with film. My digital stuff has only been (in my opinion) bad overall. I have had a 6-7 year odyssey trying to find the perfect digital camera. I finally have. My pictures now look great again!
Buy this great camera, and you will not be disappointed in any way. It is a great deal at twice the price. Was this review helpful?

After owning a string of Canon digital cameras, I bought this Kodak and could not be happier. It is easy to use, great for telephoto shots with image stabilization and takes wonderfully detailed pictures.
Particularly good is the nearly instant startup time, an issue for most other cameras. It makes it great for that "I have to have it" shot. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent camera for the price Tuesday, August 14, 2007 thirschler from McHenry, IL
We're headed to vacation soon and thought we'd pick up a new camera. The optical zoom on this camera was the primary reason we bought it. We were tired of the typical snapshot looking family photos and wanted to get in close sometimes without distorting the image. Can't say enough. The camera takes exceptional pictures, especially outdoors. I also like the fact that it has a number of preset shooting modes as well a manual shooting modes. It does really use up the batteries, though so make sure you're well stocked. The included battery lasted for only one outing and is not rechargeable. Including rechargables would have been a nice touch. The camera is also very fast; there is very little shutter lag, which is a nice change from our old camera where you had to guess or anticipate the right moment to snap. Since the images are large unless you change the settings, you might want to pick up a couple of larger SD cards. The included card fills up way too fast. I nabbed a couple of 2 GB SD cards for 20 bucks apiece. Was this review helpful?

I bought this camera to replace a small point and shoot camera (actually have had 4 in 3 years of searching). I have been a mid-level photog in 35mm and digital for over 25 years and really want to take great digital pics free-hand. The smaller cameras have posed a real problem for me since the high mega-pixel cameras have become affordable. I have had a problem with camera shake/movement and/or slow camera reaction times, messing up my pictures.
This camera is so very fast, with a .26 second reaction time! I have had this only a few days, but love it. My wife hates her picture being taken and always jumps to get out of the shot, but not with this camera. Moving subjects are a thing of the past!
The pictures are clear, properly exposed and color is right. The flash pops up when it is needed, but must be locked back down after you use it. That is the single downfall with this camera. Otherwise, great camera. Even after many years of digital camera use the different settings have been too hard to use quickly, as the dials and buttons are difficult to use and do not give full explaination of their function.
This camera has perfectly placed buttons and dial to change settings and a message describing the selection pops up on the screen to let you know what you have selected. The joypad makes movement between selections quick and easy. My wife is able to now use other settings than only full auto to take some real neat photos!
The zoom is fast, but not too touchy, meaning you can control how far/fast you zoom without overshooting your subject. The focus is always active, so there is no lag for the camera to pick up the object. It just fine tunes the focus as you push the shutter button and the picture is taken. It takes a little getting used to, as you feel the focus adjusting in your hand as you move around off the subject, but I think it is a great feature. In other words, if the camera is on, it is focusing all the time.
It is not a pocket camera, but that is what I wanted. The smaller cameras DO NOT give you control to prevent shake or unwanted hand movement. It fits the hand well and is very ergonomic and comfortable.
The price on Buy.com is the lowest I have found. Kodak is selling it for $249.99 at their web site. If you are moving up to a beatter camera, they even allow tradeins if you buy it there. But for initial price, Buy.com has the best price going!
I recommend this camera in every area. It is fast, takes great pictures and is affordable. 7.1MP resolution is the perfect point, where you can get great pictures without too much trouble in storage size, slow processing, pixelation at higher ISO settings.
The LCD and electonic viewfinder appear to be of a lesser quality of resolution until you take a photo, then the picture preview of the shot is of great quality. You can also zoom, crop and do color editing on this camera, too!
It accepts high capacity SD cards, is PictBridge compatible (plug it right into compatible printer and print without a computer) and uses USB 2.0 for high speed transfers to a computer.
Many cameras are on the market today, and I have tried many brands like Canon, Vivitar, Minolta, HP. I have come back to good old Kodak though. They make a great product and continue to be the pre-eminant camera company to the world. Buy this if you want ease of use, the ability to expand your abilities and preserve your memories through photography!
Overall I rate this a 5 of 5 and would recommend it to anyone from a beginner to mid-level photographer. Was this review helpful?
