5 of 5 Best headphones I've ever owned Monday, June 30, 2008 Tristan from Mill Valley, CA
You get what you pay for. My previous cans were Grado SR-60s and Shure E2c, both under $100. They don't come anywhere near the Image in terms of sonic quality and comfort.
Comfort: Barely notice I'm wearing them. Great fit from the gel inserts (I have to use the large ones).
Sound isolation: pretty good, though not as complete as Shure's foam inserts.
Sound quality: Amazing. Bass is very convincing, not overpowering. Mid-range is as smooth as silk. Highs are crystal-clear, but not harsh. Incredibly detailed and revealing, yet easy on lower quality sound sources. For example, I listened to an SACD of Kinda Blue through a good headphone amp and it's like I was hearing Miles for the first time. Then I switched to my Sansa Fuze mp3 player and played some dub, and the Image still sounded great. On the downside, I can hear a faint hiss when no music is playing (but this no fault of the Image; they're just revealing system noise).
Value: For the price, I've never heard better, so the Image is a relatively good deal. Buy.com offers by far the lowest price. Was this review helpful?
