4 of 5 Not perfect...but recomended Tuesday, April 29, 2008 A Customer from w'boro, NY
It's a little slow...but it fits a ton. (though currently there might be half a gb left of space on mine)
Sometimes it has issues being read, but most of the time it works just fine.
I recomend it to anyone who is just needing a way of backing up or transferring files...not exactly perfect to work directly from though. (so saving whatever working file to the desktop is recomended.) Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Decent Value Tuesday, April 22, 2008 A Customer from Lansing, MI
If you need a fair amount of really cheap portable storage, this is a good choice. You do get what you pay for, though. The housing seems very fragile, including the thumb button that you use for the retractable USB connector. The lack of complete cover for the connector allows dust and lint to easily get inside it. If you are concerned about durability, I would go with a more expensive unit; if if you just need a cheap 8GB flash drive, this isn't a bad choice. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Lot of space but such a waste Wednesday, March 19, 2008 jonathan@thecadguy.biz from Everett, WA
Got this back in december and it has on several occasions denied access to files because it says they are corrupted. Today it totally shut down with all my work for the last few months on it / DRIVE CORRUPTED!! Going back to Lexar or SanDisk at least I know they will last. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 All about the price / performance is ok Tuesday, March 11, 2008 A Customer from Crestview, FL
Great budget 8GB flash drive. Write speed is pretty slow - read speed is good enough to play HD Divx on my PS3 with no hiccups which was my main use for it. So for me it works great. I do like the retractable connector - I've lost the caps for my other sticks already... Was this review helpful?

This works great!! The only thing I wish it had would be readyboost on it so it could be used as extra memory for my computer running Vista. This would have been even better.
O'well the stick works great and is very fast, It does what they said it would do! Plus I cannot find it around here for this great price!! Was this review helpful?

So far, only A++++'s for this product. I love it! I take it between my computers when working on photos, movies and music and find the 8G size is perfect for this. (I store my finished products on an external hard drive). This product is tops in performance, price and ease of use and I like the way the connection snaps out for use. I'm considering buying one for each of my children. Was this review helpful?

3 of 5 NOT Ready Boost compatible Monday, February 18, 2008 David from Danville, CA
Here's the reply from Kingston Tech support:
Yes this drive is Vista compatible but we make no mentioned that it's Ready Boost compatible. Unfortunately it does not meet the speed requirement needed for the Ready Boost feature. We have other drives that meets Ready Boost compatibility but unfortunately not this one. It should not be crashing your system when using the safe to remove hardware function. If that is the case I suggest having it replaced through your place of purchase or by clicking on the following link. Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.

4 of 5 Good inexpensive flash Sunday, February 17, 2008 yurx from Fort Lee, NJ
I just bought it 2 weeks ago. Time will show how reliable it is.
What I don't like about it is:
1) the plastic lock which holds USB connector open/close may break soon
2) speed is not too fast.
Considering the price it's a good buy. Was this review helpful?

50meg write from hard disk - 20secs. That's pretty slow compared to my 2gig data traveler - 6secs. Read speed is acceptable. Spend a little more and get a fast write flash. Was this review helpful?

This 8Gb USB flash drive does its job well. The 8Gb gives you tons of space, and it has the sporty retractable connection. (No cap to lose.) My only knocks are the relatively flimsy plastic exterior and the lack of an indicator light saying it is connected and working. otherwise, nice product. Was this review helpful?

I'm disappointed in the write access speed of this flash drive. I have several of Kingston's DTI series flash drives in the 4, 2, and 1 GB sizes and all appear to write data much faster than this model. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Kingston 8GB DataTraveler Wednesday, January 30, 2008 Raymond from Houma, La.
Have always liked Kingston products. This drive doesn't let me down. Reads and writes are fast and I don't have to worry about losing the cap like I did on my other drive. Was this review helpful?

1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 Good product Monday, January 21, 2008 A Customer from Albany, NY
The only reason I don't give it a 5-star overall satisfaction is because the product is made with a cheap plastic and I find the retractable mechanism a little clumsy.
Other than that, it works fine and delivers what promises. Was this review helpful?

This is an excellent flash drive. It works fast and the best part is there is no cap to lose. I don't know how many flash drives I have with missing caps because the get misplaced or fall off. Never again. And with 8 GB, I can hold an entire year of my lecture presentations, data, and documents on a single drive. Was this review helpful?

Although this drive is not as big as other USB flash drives, if your USB ports are stacked close to each other as is the case in my DELL laptop, you may not be able to connect any other devices to the adjacent port. This is also the case for remote USB ports placed side by side, as on some LCD monitors. The LED on the drive is dim and lights up when data is being accessed or transferred to the drive, and not in standby mode as on Memorex USB drives. The LED is only visible from one side of the drive hence when attached on some USB ports, it's oriented away from the users making it useless. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 It works - what else does one need to know? Monday, January 14, 2008 Henry from Raleigh, NC
It came, I plugged it into the USB port on a few computers, and it gives me a large capacity in the usual size package. When plugged in, the computer may take a few seconds longer to recognize it than it takes for a 1GB (maybe it needs to look through a larger directory space?) but then it just works and works. What a great price! Super value. There are a lot of fake 8GB flash drives out there. I bought one from eBay, and it turned out to be less than 256MB. (When it was plugged in Windows XP displayed its capacity as 8GB. So it is no "accident" but some intelligent crooks went out their way to fool the OS.) I found a method to verify true capacity of a flash drive, and this Kingstone drive was verified to be true 8GB. I didn't do any specific performance test, but in all everyday use, it is fast. I moved some sizable files, and it was very fast. Buy this one with confidence. Was this review helpful?

3 of 3 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Best performance, lots of space, great price Wednesday, January 09, 2008 Greg from Charleston, WV
I have had many of the Kingston Traveler USB drives. I loved them all. I have seen other similar devices come with preloaded software (clutter at best, destructive at worst, particularly when the software cannot be removed and it crashes the machine whenever windows tries and fails to execute it properly).
The Kingston 8GB DataTraveler has no clutter. It's just nice, lovely, empty space, waiting to soak up whatever data you have to fill it. Of all the DataTraveler's I've had, 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, the 8GB has the fastest data write speed. I'm not sure why the others were slower, as they're all supposed to be USB 2.0 devices (not just USB 2.0 compatible). This 8GB beauty has saved in excess of 3 GB in less than a minute.
I often use the 8GB unit to transfer DVD images, DB backups, and code repositories from a machine without a DVD burner to a machine with one. This little wonder has worked flawlessly every time. I wish I had a dozen more for my co-workers. Was this review helpful?

I use the drive for moving large files between systems. It takes about 1.5 minutes to copy a 1GB VOB (video) file to or from the USB drive. You can hold a couple of DVDs on it so it's a very nice size to carry.< |
