I bought the 4GB USB drive. It is wonderful. I had purchased the 1 GB previously and was very satified with it. I have had the USB where you had to go through passwords, etc. to get to transfer your data. I only wanted to use the USB to transfer my embroidery designs to my sewing machine so I don't need the security and this is perfect. Was this review helpful?

My drive just arrived and I gave it a quick transfer test. It took 86 seconds to transfer 700 mB. That comes out to 64 mb/s. One could compare this to the old ata/66 hard drive spec, but, in reality, ata specs are 'maximum theoretical,' so this flash drive could very well be nearing the ballpark speed of a standard ata/100 drive.
What does that mean for me? It means I can boot from this and not see that much of a delay as compared to a regular pata hard drive. I thought for sure that I'd have to pay a speed price for booting from USB flash, but from my preliminary findings, that doesn't seem to be the case.
Considering that flash drives were something like 1 mb/s a couple of years ago, this is a tremendous improvement. Was this review helpful?

I bought this little gizmo to work with files for Powerpoint presentations that I author and use. It is so convenient to be able to hop between multiple computers with work and then use onsite for presentations. I can't believe the amount of storage you can carry in your pocket. The drive has worked flawlessly and is very fast. Even though there is an endcap, it fits snugly both on and in storage position... and does protect the port from dust and debris. Great product. i was going to get the 2gb but figured double the storage for less than double the price seemed smart even if mostly i wont be using all the space. other people said they bought more than one, but i'd rather have everything on one so i dont get confused what files are on which one. i like that it's white and colored (whichever color for whichever size you choose) instead of black so its easier to spot. the cap fits tightly on the other end while in use so you have no excuse at all if you lose it. i originally was interested in the kind that was retractable since people said they lost the cap on others, but the retractable can break and dust still gets in. from taking it out of the packaging, i plugged the drive into a mac and put some files on it instantly, no installing anything or even instructions necessary which was great. i put documents, photos and songs on and then transfered them to a pc just as quickly and easily. i am completely satisfied with this item and recommend it. the only thing i wish it had (but the other choices dont seem to either) is a litte clip like a pen cap does so i can attach it inside my bag or to my pocket, etc., just to make it easier to grab and more secure. This is the 4th in my thumb drive collection, all Kingston DataTraveler models, and I've been pleased with all of them. I even like this series better than the black ones with retractable plugs. Retractables would be nice to have so caps that can be lost can be avoided, but what helps with this series is the cap can be snapped on the other end when in use to prevent loss, just like a Bic pen. Just have to remember it. Here's a bonus: it doesn't say on the package but it DOES have a lanyard included. The labels you can see are really 2 sides folded or taped together; once you can get it out (to open the plastic packaging, peel the back off on the edges. I could barely do it w/o using scissors, but if this is the only way for you, be careful NOT to cut thru the label), squeeze the sides, look inside and that's where you can find it, along with an anti-theft security device and some more information about the product printed inside the labels. This is my first purchase of Kingston Product.....this 4GB USB is really handy.......it just took few seconds to copy around 2-3.5 GB of data in to the USB. Also when i tried copying from the USB to hard drive it took me around 1-1min 15 secs.

It does what it's supposed to and it's really cheap considering it's a 4GB and they generally sell for twice this price in stores, if not more. I can't speak for other platforms but Windows XP doesn't need the software installed. The flash drive just works. Nice, right? The cap snaps on the top so you shouldn't have to deal with loss issues, unless you forget to put it back. Then it's your fault. Though it doesn't seem like it, it does indeed have a light on it so you know when it's working (but you should know anyway, light or not). Purple's not my favorite color but really...does it matter? This USB drive is great. I use it for transferring large files with ease (and speed!). My car has a usb port in the dash for flash drives. It works great in the car as an mp3 player. And what a great price for 4GB!

When I tried to use the flash drive the first time, my computer tried to search online for the install software, but could not authenticate the product so advised me not to use it. It said that it could damage my system if it was not a reliable source.
