 Editor's Note
Master of terror Stephen King turns his attentions to TV, with this adaptation of Lars Von Trier's miniseries RIGET, which translates into "kingdom." The beginning of the 15-hour drama sees the opening of a new, state-of-the-art hospital facility in Lewiston, Maine. Dr. Hook (Andrew McCarthy, PRETTY IN PINK, JOURS TRANQUILLES A CLICHY) heads up a team of newly-installed doctors. But strange things soon begin to occur around the hospital. At night, sounds of children crying in pain can be heard distinctly, but the staff persists in attributing this occurrence to natural causes. But when psychic Sally Druse (Academy Award-winner Diane Ladd, WILD AT HEART) comes to visit an old friend who has been hospitalized after a suicide attempt, she blacks out after having horrific visions. The doctors claim she has a brain affliction, but Sally knows she has seen the truth of the hospital. As more and more people catch glimpses of a phantasmal, frightened little girl, and more unexplainable events occur, Sally's story comes to carry more weight. Does the history of the hospital's site have anything to do with what's going on, situated as it is in the same spot a Civil War-era mill burned down, killing many child laborers? The stellar cast of this quintessential King chiller also features Academy Award nominee Bruce Davison (X2) as Dr. Stegman and Ed Begley, Jr. (THIS IS SPINAL TAP) as Dr. Jesse James.
