Album Notes and Credits

Notes & Personnel Info
The tag line for King's Ransom was "Big man, big plan, big mistake," and just about anyone who saw it would probably say it was also a big flop. A movie so poor isn't likely to make anyone rush out to pick up the accompanying soundtrack, but King's Ransom: The Album is just about the only thing about the movie that can't be considered poor. As a stand-alone collection of songs, it's not bad at all -- any disc containing En Vogue's "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)," Keith Sweat's "I Want Her," E.U.'s "Da' Butt," De La Soul's "Me, Myself and I," and Rick James and Teena Marie's "Fire & Desire" (one of the most beloved slow jams) -- deserves to exist. In fact, this type of soundtrack is far more preferable over the type that throws together scraps from hot artists and material from discount bin-bound up-and-comers. No one wants to remember a bad movie (unless, of course, it's something like Showgirls or Glitter), but even those who felt robbed after seeing King's Ransom can't deny that there's something of value in its soundtrack. ~ Andy Kellman
