| King of the Mountains is Rodney Carrington's first album of new material in more than four years. The album will be followed by a Comedy Central special, the release of his first DVD, Rodney Carrington Live at the Majestic Theatre, and a book, Coming Clean. All will be supported by Rodney's first full year of touring since the debut of his television show in 2004.
| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | Personnel: Rodney Carrington (vocals); Pat Buchanan (guitar); Michael Spriggs (acoustic guitar); Gary Morse, Paul Franklin (steel guitar); Larry Franklin (fiddle); Bob Hoban (piano); Dave Pomeroy (bass instrument); Milton Sledge (drums); Lisa Cochran, The Ordinaires, Vicki Hampton (background vocals). | | His country-tinged, faux-redneck ribaldry has made Rodney Carrington, if not a household name, then a fairly beloved figure in the music/comedy circuit. On this 2007 release of spoken-word comedy and song, which did well on both the country and pop charts, Carrington expounds on breasts, more breasts, trying yoga for the first time, and fat girls. | | When he landed a sitcom on ABC in 2004, Rodney Carrington quickly lifted himself out of the world of guest appearances on morning zoo radio and small-time comedy clubs. In other words, he went from Tim Wilson to Jeff Foxworthy and sanitized his act accordingly for prime-time TV. The two seasons of Rodney had a bit of an edge, but the truly trashy side of his act was still there, growing or maybe festering and waiting for its turn. Completely free of shame, King of the Mountains is the hilarious result. Carrington has used the four years since his last new album to hone his ribald act without disrupting the easygoing, everyman charm. His standup material is tight, but it also flows effortlessly with the comedian casually strolling through his day-to-day life of porno, immature friends, dysfunctional family, and a world that's a little too fast for a die-hard Oklahoman. His "aw shucks" attitude tempers the filth and down-home bias, but it's his understanding of what he pretends to not understand that really separates him from the Cable Guys and other Blue Collar comedians. Carrington does a perfect Bobby Trendy impression to play a Rodeo Drive salesclerk on "Shopping on Rodeo Street," while the song "Rap Star" has some current insider and properly used hip-hop slang, even if it's introduced with an "I don't know a dang thing about these rappers" excuse. As good as the standup portion of the album is, King of the Mountains does ramp up to what is always the best part of any Carrington effort: the dirty, silly, and catchy songs. They're presented at the end of the live show and again in their studio versions with a touching, heartfelt tribute to fellow comedian and longtime friend Barry Martin closing the album. With observational humor threatening to take the spotlight away from the novelty songs, King of the Mountains is a good laugh the whole way through and, in turn, his strongest album to date. ~ David Jeffries |

| | Bio | | | Rodney Carrington Rodney Carrington broke through with his major label debut Hangin' with Rodney in 1998. The album, which featured fan favorite songs "Letter to My Penis" and "Fred," sold more than 475,000 copies and established Rodney, with his trademark black cowboy hat, boots, and Texas twang, as the king of middle class comedy. The next few years saw four more Top 10 albums: Live, Morning Wood, Nutsack and Greatest Hits, all of which continue to receive major radio airplay on both country and rock formats. Greatest Hits, a double CD, earned a RIAA certified Gold Record and is well on its way to Platinum. His major network comedy, Rodney, ran on ABC from 2004-2006. Rodney considers the television show a two-year infomercial that took his career to new heights, and eventually sparked his creative side. "After the television show ended," says Rodney, "I had renewed interest and energy to put toward my next record. I've been working on this album for five years, writing and then honing the material on the road. It's the best material I've done in a long time. It moves at fast pace. It's funny. That's not a guess; that's based on the feedback I've gotten from audiences." The album includes a live recording of Rodney's stand-up and five song tracks (one live and four studio recorded), including the hilarious anthem "Show Them to Me" and the deeply personal "My Angel Friend." The material is all new, but fans shouldn't expect too much of a departure from Rodney's previous work. The subjects, however, have changed with the performer. "The record has a little more maturity. No, not maturity. I should say growth. I'm older now. I think different than I did five years ago or ten years ago." Rodney's popularity derives, in large part, from his closeness with his audience. Instead of moving to Los Angeles or Nashville, Rodney stayed in Tulsa, Oklahoma; he keeps grounded through frequent live shows. He has been a Pollstar Top 100 grossing concert act since 2001, reaching #28 in 2003 before television commitments forced him to cut back his touring schedule. Now that he's back to full-time touring, he regularly sells out back-to-back 3,000 seat concerts in major cities. Rodney has no plans to change his regular guy approach. "I have no agenda. I don't want to change anyone's mind on anything. But I feel an obligation to the people who support me. I want to entertain them, to be funny. I figure if I get the comedy right, success will follow."
