| | Professional Reviews | BBC Online 10 of 10 [Kong] The classic monster picture that spawned the rest is not simply a venerable old cinematic relic that one is obliged to give a passing mention to. King Kong was created to grip and thrill like no movie before, and these basic principles hold surprisingly true today. - Almar Haflidason FilmCritic.com 5 of 10 [Son] Quicky sequels are rarely pretty. Son of Kong, rushed out the same year as the inimitable King Kong, proves the point. As cheap as the original was, this sequel is exponentially cheaper. It's also ridiculously lacking in the story department (explorer Carl Denham returns to Kong's home island to escape the fallout of, you know, a giant monkey destroying New York, only to discover, you guessed it, the son of Kong -- and they become friends). - Christopher Null BlogCritics.org 9 of 10 [Joe] "Mighty Joe Young" is the "King Kong" sequel "Son of Kong" should have been. Actually, it's not a sequel at all, but given the cast, directors, and writers, it should be. The final oversized ape epic to come from the team of Schoedsack, Cooper, and O'Brien, Young is just a small notch below the original Kong. - Matt Paprocki
