2 of 5 Moody Device Friday, July 03, 2009 A Customer from San Francisco, CA
Really wish I can depend on this device. Everything else from price to idea is perfect.
I've experienced several occasions now that my iPhone(3G) won't charge while docked. The music plays perfectly fine through my aux port so I know it's plugged in.

5 of 5 Great Product Thursday, April 16, 2009 Hewn Matter from Maplewood, NJ
I've been looking for a solution like this for awhile - something simple to hold, charge, control and direct connect w/o complications. In my experience the FM modulators just don't deliver good sound. I actually just use the headphone jack on my 30G Video Ipod connected to a cassette adaptor for the audio but this unit has a nice quality black braided cloth cord and extension cable w/ male minijack if you have an AUX connection on your stereo. The connection/stabilization of your Ipod is excellent - very adjustable and solid. The unit does kind of turn freely between the charger an the short flexible arm but that's not a big problem. The remote is great. It does fit very easily/snugly on your steering wheel and is nicely finished. It really looks almost like standard equipment in my black interior Audi. Works great: turns your Ipod off/on and skips ahead and back and even has a "shuffle" on/off button. I've had it bug out just a couple of times but just replugging in the Ipod seems to wake it up again. Great product and does what it claims to do with style. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Love It Wednesday, April 15, 2009 A Customer from San Diego, CA
The only thing I don't like is that the aux cord is almost too short for where my cigarette lighter plug is located. Otherwise, I love this dock. Was this review helpful?

--------The Good---------:
When this dock works as advertised, it's great! LineOut audio via the iPhone dock connector has way better sound than the headphone jacks. You'll notice better sound across the spectrum and better amplification. When you're using the iPod function, the screen never locks, but will dim. If you push any of the remote control buttons, the screen will brighten again and you'll be able to see the album art/track info in iPod mode w/o sliding to unlock!
---------The bad----------:
1) You will most likely intermittently get the [This accessory is not made to work with the iPhone...would you like to turn on Airplane Mode?] warning when you dock sometimes. I called Kensington customer support, and they acknowledged this as a known problem. Their solution: Undock your iphone, and unplug the dock from the power, then wait 3 minutes. Replug everything and it will work. Of course, this only sometimes works, and the issue will keep coming back every now and then. I've had the opportunity to see this on 2 different identical units.
2) Depending on which way you have the dock rotated (vertical, 90 degrees left, or 90 degrees right - aka portrait or landscape view of the iPhone), the left or right grips will stick and won't pop out. Portrait will work fine, but I think landscape left causes the left grip to stick and landscape right causes the right side to stick during eject (or vice versa).
--------The ugly--------
(ok, it's just a continuation of "The bad". . .I just wanted to use the movie reference):
3)Everything you've read about the rotating/torqueing of the flexy gooseneck around the 12V cigarette lighter/accessory power socket is true. You can minimize this by trying to figure out how you want the gooseneck bent and contorted first, adding zipties to help hold the position (as I have), then plug it into the power socket. DO NOT ROTATE the unit around the power socket while it's plugged in, it'll erode and destroy the little rubber ring that helps hold the power socket in place.

5 of 5 The perfect solution Tuesday, April 14, 2009 A Customer from California
I put this in my 2008 Toyota Highlander. The cigarette socket had me a bit concerned as it isn't 100% stable, but putting the Kensington unit off to 1 side slightly keeps the whole unit stable. The cord length was perfect for the vehicle so I did not need the included extension cable for the audio. The steering wheel mounted controls are handy though there have been a couple of times when the remote wouldn't work until the iPod was reseated. There is some slight ground loop interference noise that would probably be solved by tying the ground cable from the cigarette lighter to the audio amplifier's ground cable.
This was used with a 2nd Gen iPod Touch. I'm overall very happy with the unit. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great car dock Wednesday, March 25, 2009 Jeff from Sacramento, CA
This car dock works great in newer cars with a 12V accessory outlet. However older cars that have cigarette lighters may not work as well. My 2007 Honda Civic works great, but my 1988 Honda CRX didn't. While driving down the road the power would cut on & off. I had to heavily modify the lighter socket to work properly.
It does hold my iPhone firmly & places it a finger tip away. As others have said, the left clamp doesn't always release. This is no big deal though as the iPhone still comes out with ease when released. The sound quality is better than through the ear bud jack. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Pretty good product, pretty good price Tuesday, March 24, 2009 A Customer from Lincoln, NE
I got this product for $50 on Buy.com in one of their weekly deals which I think is a pretty decent price for this piece of equipment. I like the fact that the 'gooseneck' is flexible yet very sturdy and your iPod can be rotated and moved to about any position you want. One thing that has bugged me tho is the interference that I get through the charger. When I put on the gas I get more noise through my speakers. So quieter songs always have a little bit of background noise. This may be a car issue, but it would be nice if they could put some sort of noise filter in the actual product.
I know that's asking a lot for this price, but overall I'm pretty satisfied with this product. BTW I have an iPod Touch and it charges it very well.

5 of 5 Great for iPhone 3G Saturday, March 14, 2009 A Customer from Philadelphia, PA
It's hard to find products that actually work with the iPhone 3G. I got the "airplane mode" warning a couple of times, but mostly it just plugs right in and works perfectly. It is sturdy and well designed. My only two wishes would be that the neck of the holder were longer and that the remote also controlled the volume (although in the car that's not such a big deal since controlling the car's stereo is usually convenient). The smartest move I ever made after buying my iphone was to get one of these. All you need is this and a bluetooth speak/ head set or compatible car and your fully integrated and ready to go. I barely charge my phone at home anymore since this takes care of it on my drives, the sound quality is very good and the best part about it is that the phone does not lock when its in the base, you can have google maps open the entire time and the phone wont lock the back light will go off depending on how you have it set but maps stays open the entire time. The one possible negative is the remote, its very moody, some times its either not sensitive enough and you'll have to press the desired button several times, other times it will toggle the random button when you press next. One more thins is during the winter,if the remote has been sitting in the cold it wont work right away it needs to get heated up, these are all minor things but hey they might be important to you. This plus a bluetooth speaker on your visor and your good to go, the entire setup is aesthetically pleasing as well, your bound to get some positive response from your friends/family/passengers Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Gets the job done! Thursday, March 05, 2009 A Customer from Houston, TX
If you have an auxiliary input in your car and do not want to change the head unit to control your ipod, this is the perfect solution. I use it for my iPhone because I wouldn't like to keep it in the glove box! It charges and has a remote control and also it's the only product of it's kind (other than the non-deluxe kensington) I looked everywhere for something with these features. It'd be good if they let you know that the sides of the holder behave differently depending on the orientation of the cradle. I thought mine was broken, but it's just the way it works. At this price it's definitely worth getting. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Product! Wednesday, September 24, 2008 A Customer from Newark, NJ
Excellently designed car dock for iPhone 3G. Sound quality is excellent and ease of use is awesome. You just drop your iPhone onto the connector, then squeeze the two sides to clamp the phone for the ride. Simple and good quality. Charges the phone and the audio-out has very good sound. 5 of 5 easy to use and works great so far Tuesday, September 23, 2008 altmod from Decatur, GA
I love this product because it allows me to charge my phone while driving while simultaneously listening to Pandora or the iPod function on my phone. It was simple to install. When a call comes in the music turns down, pauses, and then I hear a ring and know to pick up the phone. The phone sits in the built in cradle which can also hold my iPod nano. The only negative really has to do with the design of my car. To keep all wiring invisible, I installed this between the two front seats in the cd storage container of my C-RV (where the power and music jack are both located). Thus, the phone sits a bit behind me (closer to where I plug in my seat belt). So I can't see who is calling unless I grab the phone. The remote control works great with the iPod function and fastens securely to the steering wheel. Overall, great product. Was this review helpful?
