5 of 5 Transmitting through your radio Saturday, December 08, 2007 Shea from Manhattan Beach, CA
This is not as much a review for the Belkin, but a suggestion to getting better reception. I removed (unscrewed) my antenna from my car. I can still receive radio stations that are local, but I don't get the static of trying to receive a station from further away. This allows for more available stations to get a clearer transmission from your ipod. I live just outside of L.A., so like any major city it was hard to find completely empty stations. Now I can find 3 in a row and use the middle station (I am using 90.3). The difference is amazing. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Thrilled Twice Friday, November 30, 2007 A Customer from Chicago, IL
I am thrilled with this product. I live in Chicago and have had no problem with reception (88.5 works great). My daughter bought a different unit because it was cheaper, and she got what she paid for. Everytime she gets in my car she comments about how well this works compared to the one she bought. I just bought one of these for her for CHRISTmas. I know she'll be excited to receive it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Product!!! Wednesday, November 28, 2007 Satisfied Customer from Dallas, TX
It works pretty well. Sometimes I experience some statics but that is always within acceptable range. I had gone through reviews and technical specs of lots of similar products and then I bought this one. I am satisfied with it's performance. I am not sure if there is any other product works beter than this. I surely recommend this product. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Much better then the other models I have owned Tuesday, November 27, 2007 A Customer from Saratoga Springs, Utah
This modulator provides so much more clear sound through my FM radio. The other model I had was not powered by the 12v supply. It received it's power from the Ipod and it worked but it was easily over powered by local radio stations. However, this unit never is over powered and I can listen to my IPOD in the car with no worries. Plus as an added bonus my IPOD is charged while listening. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Wowed by customer service! Thursday, October 04, 2007 rich_mixologist from Calabasas, California
After my previous negative review of this item, I signed into the Kensington website to see if I had any recourse regarding the faulty fm transmitter. I filled out a short form describing the problems with my adaptator, so a customer service representative would contact me back via email.
Within a number of hours there was a friendly response informing me that most likely my particular adaptator was malfunctioning and he had already put in a rush order for a new one to be sent out to me- all he needed was for me to supply my shipping address!! Imagine my surprise when it got here tonight-via FedEx, less than a week after I gave them my address!
I wholeheartedly applaude such a customer-oriented business! I will certainly purchase their products in the future!! Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 On the fence and a little annoyed Tuesday, September 25, 2007 A Customer from Los Angeles, CA
I've had a few different FM transmitter/ chargers for my mini and video ipods. My first one, a belkin, was so great but the exact model isn't made anymore- so I decided to try the kensington because it got such great reviews. Apparently, I'm the only person who got a broke one! It was a great price and I understand that all Fm transmitters get a little staticky- but the static problem has continued to get worse and I've only had it for a couple months! Now I need to actually hold my ipod in my hand to get clear sound. And to top that off- now it doesn't even charge my ipod while its playing. I've tried the problem-solving tips on the Kensington website, but they didn't help. I'm planning to contact the manufacturer about the warranty asap. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 #1 for ease Tuesday, September 25, 2007 A Customer from SF, CA
easy to use and work. No issues if you keep in on 1 frequency. Changing while driving is OK as long as you keep close or pre-program. Have had many of these and leave them in each car. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Bettern than expected Sunday, September 16, 2007 Alexander W. from Los Angeles, CA
Living in Los Angeles with lots of FM stations, I was skeptical about buying any FM transmitter for my iPod. But I don't have a AUX-IN / Tape player and didn't want to spend $150 for an iPod adapter, I didnt' have much choice.
I was pleasantly surprised with this product. This product was easy to use and it sounds great. Plug it into the 12v jack, turn on the radio, connect the iPod and find free frequencies, match it on the transmitter, lock it by press-holding one of the three buttons. This product delivers clear sound, free of statics, pretty good bass (sounds better with iPod set to Bass Booster) and great stereo separation. The problem was finding a good frequency to use. For my area, 99.1 worked the best.
There is only one majob issue with this product and it's with the LCD screen on this device. Unless you look at the screen straight and level, it's difficult to read the frequencies. Everything looks like 188.8.
I personally think that $55 is a bit too much for this type of product but then again looking at the prices of other iPod accessories, I guess it's not that bad. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Kensington Universal FM Transmitter Wednesday, September 05, 2007 A Customer from Bowling Green, Ky
It works great. I take it on the road all the time and have no problems using it. Multi-station function is great for Metro areas. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Works but on one station only Friday, August 24, 2007 lyla from Los Angeles, CA
I couldn't get any station to work here in Los Angeles for this product and was getting ready to return the item when I read the review about an undocumented modulator trick. The trick worked and I'm keeping it. But it only works on 87.9 and no other station gets the decent clarity you need to listen and enjoy your music. This info should come with the product's manual. Thanks to the reviewer responsible for this info! Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 undocumented trick Monday, August 13, 2007 Pedro from Los Angeles, CA
There is an undocumented trick to get your modulator to tune to 87.9 fm. This radio station is almost NEVER used so the signal strength comes in really strong for modulating. To get your Kensington FM modulator to tune to 89.7 you have to hold down the two right station pre-sets buttons and then use the up/down tuner to go to 87.9. (it’s hard to do when driving). Then you have to tune your radio to 87.9 and you are set. The only hassle is that I have to reset the modulator each time I turn my car off. But the clarity is worth it. Other stations work well too, just not as well. iPod charging is great. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Made a good gift Saturday, August 04, 2007 Bill from Fargo ND
I purchased this for a gift for someone who had recently bought an Ipod. They seem very satisfied with the transmitter and it works well for them in our rural area. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent product - one tweak to hit perfection Monday, July 09, 2007 A Customer from Houston, TX
Very happy with this product. Performance is very good in my area (Houston). Although not written in the manual, there IS a way to tune it to 87.9. Hold down the #2 and #3 preset buttons while tuning up or down. The only reason I didn't give this product a 5 for ease of use is that you CANNOT then store 87.9 as a preset! You must re-tune it every time you turn on the unit. Hopefully Kensington will change this in a future version. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Can't beat it for the price Friday, July 06, 2007 A Customer from Bridgewater NJ
The unit works well with the IPOD nano. The unit came with adapters for each ipod variation so you should have no problems. Quality is ok. Only have it for 2 weeks, so I can't say anything about durability. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works Great - at least where I live! Thursday, July 05, 2007 A Customer from San Francisco, CA
The key to buying one of these things is to know that 1. It's a radio transmitter and 2. It really depends on where you are. To say that it "doesn't work" has nothing to do with the product, but more about where you are using this product. YOu also have to know and accept that the songs will not play in CD quality. Not only is your copy of the mp3 a digital copy but it's now going through the radio transmitter. So you have to be flexible when buying this product. This works perfectly near my home, but doesn't work so great on the Bay Bridge in San Francisco, which is expected. I use 88.1FM if that's of help to anybody out there. Definitely won't be burning all those CDs just to listen to a certain mix since I can just hook up my ipod.
Price is great too. Sometimes you'll even see it for a little bit cheaper. Apple store charges $80 for this item. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very satisfied with this product. Thursday, July 05, 2007 A Customer from Stevenson, Alabama
This is a great product. It performs just as it should. I have seen this type of product for much more money than this. It was definately worth the price. Now I can listen to my ipod and charge it in my car. I don't need a cd player anymore. I have over 400 songs to listen to instead. Very highly recommended!!! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great performance on my boat Wednesday, July 04, 2007 A Customer from Landing, NJ
I have been using Kensington transmitter/charger for more than a week now. I purchased it for my boat which is old enough that the stereo system does not have an mp3 input. Since I use it when I am anchored I do not have issues car drivers may find as they go in and out of areas that may have competing FM signals. Very good sound quality and stereo separation. My only complaint is the LED display is a bit hard to read in bright light or off angle, Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 mediocre sound quality Thursday, May 31, 2007 A Customer from Pluto
I've never used a transmitter so maybe my expectations were unrealistic, but when I read the generally glowing reviews of this product, I thought it would at least be similar to my old cassette adapter. It's not. There's a fair amount of static regardless of which station I use, and the dynamic range and frequency response are nowhere near CD or even regular radio. It gets music to your car radio, but not much more. Definitely disappointing. Was this review helpful?

Rock solid performer... best RF xmitter I've used yet... beats griffin's product hands down. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good for what it is Wednesday, May 30, 2007 W. Hinds from Wilmington, DE
I've had two other iPod specific FM Transmitters that I was very displeased with. I was convinced that those transmitters were limited by design in that they were power exclusively by the iPod. I was certain that I would get better performance if I had a transmitter that had more juice. I cannot say I was correct. This transmitter is better, yes, but still not what I would consider "good", simply "ok". I live in a crowded area outside Philadelphia, and there simply does not seem to be a transmitter capable of over coming the static I find on every single frequency. I just cannot find a clear channel. Some lower channels work well enough, but the static drives me absolutely crazy, and I constantly have to flip between 88.3 and 88.7 as I drive around, I'm not sure I'm not bumping into someone else doing the same thing... Anyway, I can't say for sure, but I bet this would work a heck of a lot better out in the hicks. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 pretty darn good Tuesday, May 29, 2007 A Customer from san antonio tx
used on trip in a jeep from NC to TX--worked great. can be tricky to properly place--you need to be able to see the station screen when it's in your power outlet, (my trick: turn it sideways so the angle's better). you WILL need to chg stations as you pass through cities, etc. had a belkin2 which was kind of crummy, esp when it died after a yr's worth. 1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Works great! Wednesday, May 16, 2007 A Customer from Minneapolis, MN
After reading other reviews I was concerned about interference from broadcast stations but I went to the web and downloaded the local radio station listing for this area and a couple that we often travel to and picked frequencies that were open. Having the three presets is great for those times we have gotten gotten too close to strong signal stations. I've used it in multiple cars and plug in locations with the same great results. The sound is at least as good as broadcast FM stations and much better than the response I had when I used a cassette transfer device. Was this review helpful?

3 of 5 Have to get a replacement Monday, May 14, 2007 Ivy from Va Beach, VA
Well, at first when I pluged it in my car, it was very easy to get it ready to listen to my Ipod. When I first listened to it with my Ipod it worked GREAT! I loved it, but then 2 days later, I started hearing bad static. Every station I tried had static, so now I have to get it replaced. Hopefully my next one is great! Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 A convenient solution Friday, April 06, 2007 Yeti Man from Wisconsin
I bough this to use in my work van which only has an AM/FM radio.
It works pretty well, and is very convenient. It does get some interference noises once in a while, but overall is noise free and the sound quality is quite good.
Using the unit bypasses the volume control on my iPod Nano, meaning you don't have to adjust the level on the iPod. It also lets you use headphones on the iPod where you CAN control the volume on the phones. What this means is you can independantly use the phones if one person likes the music louder or quieter that what is playing through the car reciever. Was this review helpful?
2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 it works Friday, February 16, 2007 A Customer from Edison, NJ
In general this product works well and works as advertised.
There seem to be nuances with radio reception that sometimes
cause problems especially when travelling. I can drive 5 miles in
any direction and need to change radio stations.
But once I get "locked in" to a blank station then the music
sounds good. Was this review helpful?

Of it course depends on where you go, you'll experience some static, just like regular stations..but i'm used to it! Was this review helpful?

My lady was recently given an iPod Nano, so I snagged one of these for thirty-something bucks. Setting up is easy - find an unused frequency on your car radio, then tune the unit to the same frequency and press and hold a preset for a few seconds. That's it! The only thing that is missing is a way to mount the iPod on the dash somewhere (even a couple of Velcro pads will do), but that is a minor gripe. Was this review helpful?
