| | | Anxious to fund research for his new theory of velociraptor intelligence, renowned paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) is persuaded by a wealthy adventurer (William H. Macy) and his wife (Tea Leoni) to accompany them on an aerial tour of Isla Sorna. This infamous island, once InGen's site B, has become both a primordial breeding ground for John Hammond's magnificent creations and a magnet for thrill-seekers eager to encounter them. When a tragic accident maroons the party of seven, Grant discovers the true reason his deceptive hosts have invited him along. In their perilous attempt to escape with their lives, the dwindling group encounters terrifying new creatures undisclosed by InGen, and Grant is forced to learn the dreadful implications of his raptor intelligence theory firsthand--they are smarter, faster, fiercer and more brutal than he ever imagined. "A catch-your-breath cliffhanger!" Gene Shalit, The Today Show "It's speedy, light on its feet and louder than bombs." Elvis Mitchell, The New York Times "A thrill ride...high on adrenaline!" Joel Siegel, Good Morning America "The effects are flawless." Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
 Editor's Note
Paleontologist Alan Grant (Sam Neill) has sworn never to return to Jurassic Park. But he needs funding for his research, so when a wealthy thrill-seeking couple (William H. Macy and Téa Leoni) come calling, Grant and his protégée, Billy (Alessandro Nivola), agree to take them on a sightseeing flight. By the time Grant finds out what their true purpose is--to land on the island and search for their missing son--all of their lives are in peril. And Grant's newfound theory about Raptor intelligence will have its deadly proof.Joe Johnston was the right director to take over Steven Spielberg's JURASSIC PARK series. He's experienced with special effects, having worked on the STAR WARS films, while his OCTOBER SKY demonstrates his skill at telling an emotionally involving tale. In JURASSIC PARK 3, with the help of a top-notch technical team and a talented cast (who began filming before the script was finished, improvising much of their dialogue), and a new dinosaur, Spinosaurus, that makes even T-Rex nervous, Johnston has fashioned a rousing adventure with state-of-the-art visuals. Clocking in at a tense 92 minutes, it's the fastest-moving, most action-packed film of the series.

| | Professional Reviews | New York Times "...The movie dashes like a one-track-mind raptor. It's speedy, light on its feet and louder than bombs..." 07/18/2001 p.E1Variety "...[The] effects are extremely impressive, with the creatures rendered with a smoothness and believability that puts even the first two installments in the shade..." 07/23/2001 p.17-22 Entertainment Weekly "...All of these creatures are fun and arresting to behold....They attack with a beak-snapping viciousness that seems purely hardwired..." 07/27/2001 p.46 Rolling Stone "...The creatures look good, especially the badass spinosaurus and the flying pteranodons. And how about those raptors -- they actually talk..." 08/30/2001 p.131-2 Total Film "...Macy is perfect....Johnston keeps it pacy and satisfyingly suspenseful..." 09/01/2001 p.101 Los Angeles Times "...The film's creatures, such as the flying pteranodons, are noticeably chilling..." 07/18/2001 p.1 Chicago Sun-Times "...It's a nice little thrill machine..." 07/18/2001 p.49 Chicago Sun-Times 8 of 10 This movie does a good job of doing exactly what it wants to do... I am aware that Jurassic Park III is shorter, cheaper and with fewer pretensions than its predecessors, and yet there was nothing I disliked about it, and a lot to admire in its lean, efficient story telling. I can't praise it for its art, but I must not neglect its craft, and on that basis I recommend it. - Roger Ebert
