In 2002, a swell of patriotism rose in America, along with a renewed support for the military, as troops were deployed to Afghanistan. The sentiment was particularly profound in the country music community. Meanwhile, the popularity of the TV talent show AMERICAN IDOL had reached a fevered pitch in its second season, with millions of viewers tuning in every Wednesday to savor the competition. When the handsome Gracin, then a Lance Corporal in the Marines, stepped onto the stage with his dulcet country tones, the young singer garnered a groundswell of attention. | | While Gracin wound up placing fourth in that year's contest, his skills earned him a fanbase even after the season faded away, leading to a record deal. Gracin's self-titled debut contains 11 tracks of satisfyingly melodic country in the style of Garth Brooks, George Strait, or Rascal Flatts (who were instrumental in helping Gracin get a contract). The songs are a blend of sweet love tunes ("I Would Look Good with You") and blue-collar inspirational ditties (the rousing opener "I Want to Live"). Gracin closes with the fitting "The Other Little Soldier," a son's ode to a fighting father, which eschews treacle for genuine tenderness. |

5 of 5 Amazing Country Album Wednesday, July 07, 2004 ameri_fan from Los Angeles, CA
Josh Gracins self-titled debut album, I feel, is going to be a huge success. After listening to the full album the same day that I got it, I started to like country even more. Of the eleven songs that are recorded on Joshs CD, I actually liked 8 of them which is a pretty good ratio. Joshs voice is amazing throughout all of the songs, as he shows that his voice sounds much older than his young age indicates. He has a great country voice that reminds me a lot of the voice of country star and legend Garth Brooks. Of the songs, I truly enjoyed his first single I Want to Live. Yet, my favorites included the the catchy tunes of the songs Wheels, Brass Bed, Endless Hoping, and Our Little Soldier. The songs that Josh sings are songs that the audience can relate to in many ways, and this is why I enjoyed this album far more than I had actually anticipated. I truly recommend the purchasing of this CD to anyone out there who loves country music its definitely a steal in country music. Was this review helpful?
