| | Jackpot is a sizzling collection of celebratory selections that focus on having fun and beautiful women, Chingy is sure to get the party started. "Right Thurr" features Chingy rapping over a thick, percolating beat about the type of woman that will always catch a man's eye, even if he isn't looking. "Say you're riding, doing well and then you see a girl that blows your mind," he says. "You've got to have that 'Right Thurr.' You want to follow her." Odds are, women will want to follow Chingy after hearing this addictive cut. "She threw it at me like a shortstop," Chingy boasts on the song, and with this type of hit to his credit, there's no reason why women wouldn't. Chingy then teams with Murphy Lee of the St. Lunatics on "Sample Dat Ass," an irresistible club track with blips and stutter scratches that will have every dancefloor in a frenzy. The heavy bass and stuttery beat of "Hit the Club" works well with Chingy's festive lyrics about dancing and parties. Elsewhere, Chingy teams up with Disturbing Tha Peace members I-20 and Titty Boy on the boast-heavy "Where You From" and shouts out virtually every major city in America on "Chingy Jackpot."

The track borrows everything wonderful about Nelly's "Hot in Herre" smash hit from the summer before. From the bouncy, bassy beats to the Southerrn dialect, and from the sexual overtones to the teen pop accessibility of the hook, "Right Thurr" is an instant party rap classic. The remainder of Jackpot -- especially "Holidae In," featuring both Ludacris and Snoop Dogg -- is nearly as tailor-made for pop-rap appeal. Credit largely goes to the Trak Starz, whose Neptunesque productions fill the album (they produce all but one song). On the downside, the quality of the hooks sometimes doesn't match up to that of the beats, and Chingy himself lacks the substance to match his style. Still, there are enough well-crafted songs on Jackpot to make it an entertaining listen from beginning to end, provided you skip past a few songs here and there. ~ Jason Birchmeier | | There's always room for summer jams, and if Nelly's "Hot In Herre" owned the summer of 2002, the jam pouring out the windows, pumping from the cranked-up speakers of the most pimped-out rides in the warmest months of '03 is clearly Chingy's "Right Thurr." Similar to Nelly, Chingy is straight out of St. Louis, possesses a smooth, confident, charming vocal style and spins hypnotic dialect with a blithe humor over insistently catchy beats. Moreover, both rappers' debut albums were phenomena practically out of the box. JACKPOT, Chingy's debut, deserves its attention with an impressive variety of constantly banging tracks. | | Fellow Southern spirit Ludacris brought Chingy into his Disturbing Tha Peace fold and guests along with Snoop Dogg on the slightly screwed-up "Holidae In." From the spiraling flow and hooky chorus of "Chingy Jackpot" to the unrelenting bass of "Juice" to a bonus remix of the undeniable "Right Thurr," Chingy never loses his focus. More than just mere support to the smash single, JACKPOT features a remarkably consistent collection of danceably appealing tracks and ensures the young rap lion a slew of singles. | Producer: DaQuiksta | Engineer: Oscar Ramirez | Musical Guests | | Jermaine Dupri | | Trina | | Ludacris | | Snoop Dogg | | J | | Tity Boi | | Weav | | I-20 | | Murphy Lee |
| | Artist Overview | | Rapper Chingy (aka Howard Bailey Jr.) honed his craft in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. His style, which features a clever, quick delivery in a high-pitched voice, draws on Dirty South and East Coast hardcore. Chingy's 2003 debut, JACKPOT, released on Ludacris's Disturbing Tha Peace label, pushed the singles "Right Thurr" and "Holidae Inn" into rotation. Chingy's profile increased after his publicized beefs with Ludacris and Nelly. He continued to develop and refine his hip-hop stamp on the albums POWERBALLIN' (2004), HOODSTAR (2006), and HATE IT OR LOVE IT (2007). Each release yielded at least one single, and featured high-profile cameos from the likes of R. Kelly, Little Wayne, Snoop Dog, and Janet Jackson, and production from Scott Storch, Timbaland, Jermaine Dupri, and others. |

| | Professional Reviews | | Rolling Stone 6 of 10 Jackpot glides on the extra-springy, hand-clap-happy beats of Chingy's hometown, with St. Louis production team the Trak Starz creating most of the grooves and Nelly providing the inspiration. Taken all together, Jackpot is short on depth, but it's a ride with some hitworthy moments and plenty of bounce. - Roni Stargis
